Under the Veil I Rule -
Chapter 199
"But I..."
"And, don't worry, I can manage the bathroom on my own. Nothing awkward will happen, I promise."
Finnian gave her a pointed look and added. Hearing this, Amara found it hard to refuse.
She nodded. "Alright then."
She knew Finnian's words were pretty much meaningless. If she truly wanted to leave, she had a thousand legitimate reasons to do so.
But she was too afraid of anything going wrong with the divorce, so she decided to go along with Finnian as much as possible before it was finalized.
After all, there were clean linens here. She could endure it for a while, so she agreed to stay. Once they'd settled that, Amara sat nearby reading a book, while Finnian worked on his tablet. They both kept to themselves, so quiet the room seemed to echo with silence.
After about an hour of this, Amara realized that being a caregiver was rather boring. She wasn't needed for much at all here. Was Finnian insisting she stay just to waste her time and mess with her?
Never mind, she thought. Best not to overthink it. Amara put down her book. Seeing the clock hands point to ten, she said, "It's late, let's get some rest."
"Alright."
Finnian had just finished his work, set down his tablet, and went to the bathroom to freshen up.
Once they both washed up, Amara turned off the lights and lay down, feeling increasingly uneasy.
She had a nagging suspicion that Finnian was latching onto her.
Could it be that Finnian was pretending to be nice, but secretly planning some sort of revenge? But if that were true, his method of revenge was pretty childish.
She chuckled wryly to herself and
closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep. Just as she was drifting off, she heard à rustling noise. She was too sleepy to care much, so she@gnored it.
Suddenly, a warm body snuggled up next to her, jolting her awake. As she was about to speak, a strong arm wrapped around her.
Amara was froze. Her drowsiness vanished instantly. She lay there, stiff as a board, and cautiously asked, "Mr. Everly?"
"It's me."
In the darkness, his voice was like a cello's deep, mellow notes, soothing yet seductive.
Amara was at a loss for words. Of course, she knew it was Finnian. After all, they had canoodled before, and his presence was unmistakable.
Moreover, there was no one else in the room. She was only trying to figure out what he was doing. Just as she was about to speak again, Finnian rolled over, pressing his lips to her masked ones.
Amara's eyes flew open. In the dim light, she could just make out Finnian's features.
His eyes were closed, long lashes casting a fan-like shadow on his cheeks. He seemed more innocent than usual, but his actions were far from innocent.
"Mr. Everly."
Amara turned her head to avoid his kiss. Finnian responded by kissing her cheek instead, though the mask made it unsatisfying. Undeterred, he moved down to her collarbone.
Amara's skin tingled with warmth. She grasped Finnian's shoulder. "Mr. Everly, what are you doing?"
She never imagined that something
like this would happen while she
was supposed to be keeping an eye on him. Was this jerk trying to take advantage of her? Amara was genuinely angry.
"You haven't fulfilled your promise from last time," Finnian mumbled. "I didn't even put it in."
