Warrior Princess -
Chapter 34
Kasens POV
I laid my mate on the bed. Atlas is whimpering in my head.
‘She will be an okay buddy. She’s just in shock.’ I tell him. He calms down slightly, but he’s still on edge.
‘I know, but our mate is hurting. She fought well. She defended her people well. I miss her eyes. I want her to open her eyes.’ Atlas whined. I agree. Those bright green eyes have been what I look forward to seeing every day.
Tucking her underneath, the blankets, I sat next to her running my hand through her hair. Her cheeks are still puffy from crying. There’s a knock on the door and I whisper come in.
“How is she doing?” Lucy and David asked softly.
“She’s okay. Her rib should be healed soon. The concussion wasn’t too bad. She was well enough to fight off a bear shifter. She is exhausted. I think everything happening hit her at once. I’m sure when she wakes up she’s going to feel responsible and guilt for Bryan. But it’s not her fault.” I grasp her hand and David puts a hand on my shoulder.
“I trained her well, but she is still soft at heart. That’s not a bad thing. It makes her who she is. You are a wonderful mate to her. Please keep us updated on her. If you need anything, let us know. If you’d like, Lucy and I can stay and watch over her while you do the interrogation. I’m sure you don’t want to leave her alone right now.” I nod and k**s Samantha on her forehead.
“I’ll be back soon, love. Rest now.” I whisper to her. I press my forehead to hers as a sign of affection and respect, shake hands with David and walk over to Lucy. She looks at me and smiles, k****s my cheek and hugs me.
“You are now one of my sons. Don’t forget to look after yourself too. I will make some dinners for you all to keep in your fridge. We will look over my baby girl. But I’m serious. You need to look after yourself. I may be just an old lady, but I’m sure your mother and I could take you down, boy.” She said with a gleam in her eye. Atlas chuckled in my head. He has grown attached to her family.
“Yes, ma’am.” I said, kissed her on the cheek, took one last look at sam and headed to the cells. Theo and Duke met me on the way. Duke hugged me for the first time in a long time.
“How’s Sam?” They asked. I told them how she was, and Theo spoke.
“I know two of the shifters that were involved. One was killed by you. The other is waiting for you in the dungeon. I will say the one you killed was one of my father’s trusted soldiers.” I nod at him. I know what it cost him to go against his family.
“I am grateful for you, Theo. You have been a tremendous help to us all. I am sorry for the price you had to pay, but for what it’s worth. I consider you my family. You are mated to my brother; you have helped us in so many ways since coming here. I don’t know how I can ever repay you.” I tell him.
“No repayment necessary. Just having people to call family is enough for me.” I bring him in for a brotherly hug and inform him he will always be family here.
“Alright, before we go down there is there anything I need to know about them?” I asked Theo.
“No, One down there is named Jason. He used to be my closest friend. He is strong but not the hardest person to crack. You shouldn’t have any difficulty getting information out of him. Now the other one I’m not familiar with. I would be more than willing to help with the Interrogations.” I nod at him.
‘Let’s do this.’ Atlas growls in approval. I feel him just below the surface. He is upset our mate was attacked. He wants b***d just as much as I do. I keep him under control, but I still let him closer.
I allow my full Alpha aura to show through as I walk to his cell. It’s enough power to make everyone bow. Helping us with the interrogation today is Me, Duke, Theo, Marcus, my dad, Jake and Gemma, and a few other warriors.
The bear shifter is sitting in a metal chair with his hands cuffed, ankles cuffed, and chains wrapped around his body. He was given a paralyzing drug to keep him from breaking free. He looked up as we walked in the room. Void of emotion until he saw Theo. I saw a flash of anger, and hurt cross his face.
“So you must be Jason.” I ask him. I nod for them to start the recording. I like to keep every interview recorded. Covers my a*s.
“I don’t answer to you.” Jason spits on the ground next to my feet. Everyone behind me growled at the disrespect. Atlas roared in my head scratching to come out. I took a few calming breaths and looked at this bear.
“I will let that slide. Do something like that again, and I will cut your tongue out with a butter knife and shove it up your a*s.” He glared at me but didn’t spit again. “So Jason. Tell me. Why did you attack my family today?”
He chuckles. “I don’t make the orders. I just follow them. But she was a pretty little thing. So is that little vixen over there? She socked me good once or twice. Hey, sweet cheeks! Want to keep me company in my cell tonight?” He said, motioning towards Gemma. Jake growled and you could see his wolf was out to play. I linked Gemma.
‘Calm him down. Jason is looking for a reaction. If he can’t be calmed, then get him out of here.’ I ordered. She nodded her head.
“You done linking, your majesty?” He said with venom.
“I think you’re forgetting. I run this show here. I can make this easy and painless or I can make sure you wish for death. The choice is yours.” I hate being violent, but sometimes the world calls for it.
“What do you want to know?” he asked, I smiled at him.
“I want to know who ordered the attack, why it was ordered, and what is the end game?”
He took a few minutes to think about his answer. “The Bear King ordered the hit. We were supposed to be spying on your borders. We noticed the Royal Caravan and Phoned home. That’s when the hit was given. We didn’t know specifically that your mate and family were in it, but we had a pretty good idea. We were ordered that if we happened to come across your Luna Queen then she was to be taken dead or alive. She is your Kryptonite. If she is taken or killed, you will become weak. The weaker you are the easier it is to attack. The Bear king wants total control. He is power hungry. His goal is to become the one main monarch for the entire supernatural realm. He has the council helping, but the plan is as soon as he gains control, they will be wiped out. He wants everyone to answer to him. No one else.”
Well, that was easy.
“Tell me. If the orders were to take my mate dead or alive, why did none of you shift? Why did you all choose to fight in human forms?”
“Truthfully?” I nodded.
“We didn’t think the women would be so well trained. We don’t allow females to train back home. The warriors would be a challenge that’s why we were armed as well.” I nodded. So they did underestimate us. That means a lot of others will. It’s so misogynistic to think women aren’t good enough to fight. Anyone untrained atleast in basic self defense is a walking target.
“Why are you telling me this, Jason? For someone who hates traitors so much, you just betrayed your whole kingdom?”
He shrugged. “Truthfully, I don’t know. My bear was angry with me during the whole attack. He is the one pushing me to surrender all I know now. He said and I quote, ‘this is the way it is supposed to be. We are supposed to be here’ Whatever that means.”
I look at my dad and Theo. They knew I was thinking of the goddess’s words. I nod at Jason and leave the room for now. I walk up to Theo. “Can we trust him?”
He seems to contemplate it. “I don’t know. He turned against me when I went against my father. But if he’s saying his bear is fighting him on his decisions then I don’t know. The goddess did say she would send people to us. She would give them messages to lead them to us. I just don’t know.”
I nod. Oh, Selene, why did you have to make this so difficult? I swear I heard a chuckle as I felt a breeze blow through the windows. I shake my head.
“Dad, what do you think?” I asked him.
“You are King Kasen. The decision to trust him is yours. There is one way to get easy answers out of him that are 100% truthful. That is the Serum.” That’s right. I forgot about that. I go to the Cabinet and pull out a syringe, and a vial of purple fluid. Filling it up with the correct dosage I walk back into the room.
“What is that? Are you going to poison me?” he asks looking nervous.
“No. This is truth Serum. I want to replace out if I can trust you or if you are going to be sentenced to death. For Conspiracy against the Supernatural realm.” He gulps. I have a guard grab his arm and straighten it while it’s chained. I stick the needle in and inject him. I wait a few minutes and see the purple haze around his eyes letting me know it is in full effect.
“Jason is the statement you told me about the plan, and attack true?” he nodded his head.
“Words Jason.” I demanded.
“Yes, your Majesty.” I nod at him.
“Tell me, What is your role in this war?” he looks like he’s deep in thought.
“I am a soldier. I follow orders. Orders that I may or may not agree with. It is not my job to question them. At the end of the day, My job is to follow and serve.” He said. I hope that if I ever gave unjust orders, my warriors would not hesitate to go against me and do the right thing. I will always strive to make the right choices and be a fair and just king, mate, and Werewolf.
“Final question Jason. Where do your loyalties lie?” he takes time to think about this. No doubt conversing with his bear.
“My loyalties lie with Selene.”
