Two hours later, Lucy and Franklin emerged from the mall, laden with shopping bags.
Suddenly, Lucy exclaimed, “Oh no! I forgot to buy a necklace! Come on, let’s go back…”
With his hands full and legs aching from all the walking, Franklin groaned, “Mom, maybe we should call it a day? We’re already carrying so much stuff, going back and forth is exhausting.”
“But…” Lucy frowned. Yet she realized that with so many bags, it would be quite a hassle to return. Her eyes darted around and then landed on the necklace around Evelyn’s neck.
“Hey, the necklace you’re wearing looks pretty good. How about you give it to me, and you can go buy yourself another one later?”
Evelyn’s eyes widened, completely stunned.
This necklace was a Cartier limited edition piece. She’d waited four months for it, and it had cost her nearly seven figures.
Who did this woman think she was? Just demanding it like that? How big–headed could she be to even say such a thing?
Lucy arched an eyebrow. “Why that face? It’s just a necklace, not your life! And honestly, I’m not even picky about the fact you’ve worn it before. I’m even giving you the chance to buy yourself a brand–new one. You should be grateful!
“Well, if you’re that stingy, then fine. I thought we could sit down and resolve things properly, but I see you’re showing about as much sincerity as a speck of dust. Fine, let’s keep dragging this out. I’m in no
rush.”
She turned to Franklin and added, “Oh, right, Frankie, let’s repost that video when we get back.”
With all those words, she’d managed to perfectly blend retreat, threats, and manipulation.
Evelyn’s face turned ashen. She was about to tell them to get lost when Richard’s warning echoed in her
mind.
After several deep breaths, she finally managed to quell her anger. Then, with trembling hands, she took off the necklace and handed it over.
“Now that’s more like it! You’re a wealthy lady–what’s a little generosity?” Lucy instantly put it on. “How does it look, Frankie?”
Franklin smirked, “Gorgeous. It looks better on you than a certain someone.”
The “someone” was clearly hinting at Evelyn.
“I warn you, don’t push your luck! Everyone’s patience has a limit!” She snapped before striding away.
This time, Lucy didn’t stop her. Instead, she admired herself in the glass, basking in the beauty of the necklace around her neck. “It’s truly gorgeous…”
“Mom, are we really just letting her leave like that?” Franklin asked.
“You can’t corner a dog all at once. Push it too far, and it might lash out. Patience, we’ll have more

chances,” Lucy said calmly.
Three days later, that chance presented itself.

Lucy called Evelyn, “It’s not often I come all the way to Elgerson, and I haven’t even seen a decent tourist spot yet. I heard the Old City is quite famous…”
Before she could finish, Evelyn instantly understood. There was another demand coming. “Fine, I’ll arrange a tour guide for you.”
“What tour guide? Can’t you just take us yourself?”
Evelyn was at a loss for words. She wasn’t some personal escort! What did Lucy mean by having her be their guide?
Taking a deep breath, she tried to explain, “A guide is more knowledgeable-
“We don’t need expertise. What we’re looking for is sincerity.”
Evelyn was at a loss for words.
The next day, she woke up early and headed to the hotel to meet up with Lucy and her son. Then, she led them through the Old City.
Lucy stood before one of the display windows, commenting as she observed, “The queen’s crown doesn’t look that great, does it? It looks dirty. Those green bits even resemble rust.”
Evelyn didn’t know what to say.
“If you sold these, how much do you think you’d get?”
Franklin yawned, “What’s so interesting about this stuff? It’s just clothes and accessories. I heard some of it’s from tombs–doesn’t that mean they belonged to dead people? Isn’t it bad luck?”
Walking alongside these two, Evelyn wished she could vanish into thin air or replace a crack to crawl into.
These bumpkins! These idiots!
“This place has nothing to eat, drink, or play with, but look at all these people!”
