"Sherilyn..."

Gilbert's gaze landed on her face, his thin lips parting slightly as he wrestled with how to break the news to her.

"What's up?"

Sherilyn's smile faltered slightly, noticing the seriousness in his expression.

"Is something wrong?"

"Yeah."

Gilbert nodded, aware that this secret couldn't be kept hidden for long.

With a solemn expression, he lifted his phone and placed it in front of Sherilyn. "Take a look for yourself." Sherilyn glanced over.

In just a moment, upon seeing the trending topic, her body went rigid, and she snatched the phone from him. Her complexion turned pale, disbelief evident in her voice.

"How could this happen? I did exactly as he said..."

"Sherilyn?"

Her reaction made Gilbert furrow his brows, speculating, "Did you know about this beforehand?"

He recalled Sherilyn acting off these past few days. Could this be what was troubling her?

"Why?"

Sherilyn lifted her head, her face so pale it was nearly translucent. "Why would he do this?"

He had already taken the money!

"I know!"

A sudden realization dawned on Sherilyn.

The person's goal wasn't just extortion or money. That was just a side benefit. The real aim was to expose her!

But, "Why? Who could it be?"

Who would hate her this much?

Gilbert was confused. "Sherilyn, what are you talking about? What's going on? Is this what's been troubling you these days?"

Sherilyn lifted her gaze to him, remaining silent.

"Sherilyn!" Gilbert grew anxious. "At this point, are you still keeping things from me?"

Sherilyn's expression was complex as she nodded. "Yes, it's about this."

He already knew, so there was nothing left to hide.

The issue wasn't complex; she summed it up in a few words. "It's like this..."

"You..." Gilbert was both angry and anxious. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Sherilyn lowered her eyes, remaining silent.

She didn't speak, but Gilbert had his suspicions.

"That day, when I kissed you, were you... awake? Did you know I kissed you?"

Sherilyn pressed her lips together, still silent.

That was confirmation enough!

"Are you crazy?"

Gilbert didn't know whether to be angry at her or himself. "You could have just pretended not to know, taking advantage of my feelings for you. Don't you get it?"

Sherilyn looked him in the eye. "Even if I told you, it probably wouldn't have made a difference."

"The person took the money and went straight to the media. No matter what, we couldn't have stopped him."

With the photos in his possession, in today's digital age, leaking them to

bet

the media would only take a feel

minutes, if not seconds.

Gilbert paused for a moment, then nodded lightly.

Looking at the whole situation, it seemed to be the case.

Sherilyn was perplexed. "Who could it be?"

"That's not the most important thing right now..."

Sherilyn paused, understanding, of course, that the most pressing issue was resolving the current crisis.

"Let's get the trending topic taken down first."

Gilbert swiped his phone, calling Charles.

""It's me..."

"Understood, Mr. Gilbert."

After hanging up, Gilbert turned back to Sherilyn, who was sitting on the couch, her complexion not improved in the slightest.

He strode over to her.

"I'll handle

trings from here. The trending topic will be pulled soomet

Give me the account details and call logs of the other party..."

"Okay."

Sherilyn nodded, quietly watching him.

Her feelings were complex, and it took her a moment to speak. "Thank you."

"I don't deserve thanks..."

Gilbert gave a bitter smile. "This mess with Ernest, I'm to blame."

He now understood that Sherilyn's initial decision to be with Ernest was influenced by Jenna.

Was it his fault?

Sherilyn was surprised.

It seemed like it, but not entirely.

The choice was hers, and blaming him for all the subsequent troubles and outcomes wasn't rational.
