“But maybe you still feel connected to him through another means? Like soul mates.” Lance said offering a smile. “It is probably nothing though. You were probably just missing him so don’t worry.” He was trying to make her feel better about the situation.

Kailee gave him a small smile but could see the worry in his eyes. “You can go to him too.”

Lance grinned widely. “What and leave you here all alone for the wolves to claim? Naw. Grum and Reggie went to check on him. Everything will be fine.”

Kailee walked away from the crowded area and behind the village buildings. Lance followed beside her as she continued to walk to a secluded area covered by nearby bushes and trees. She needed to go somewhere away from the crowds. She felt this odd urge and she wasn’t sure what it was. She knelt down on the ground and slowed her breathing.

“Hey, I told you everything is going to be fine. You can relax.” Lance said as he stooped next to her. He offered her a reassuring smile and placed his hand on her shoulder.

Kailee lifted her hand to her chest and slowly shook her head. She didn’t know what she was doing but she felt like she was being guided by something inside of her. Something was wrong. Something was wrong with Trey. And she felt a surge of strength form inside of her. She looked at Lance with determination in her eyes.

She shook her head and bit her bottom l*p. “No…I have to help him.”

“Kailee. Grum and Reggie should be at his side by now. He is going to be just fine. He is a lot stronger than you think.” Lance squeezed her shoulder.

What was wrong with her? It was like something inside of her was trying to direct her. It was this piece that was connected with Trey and could sense there was something wrong. It was the part that whispered to her, though she couldn’t make out what was being said. And now it was guiding her once again. It was telling her Trey was in pain. This was all crazy to her and a little bit intimidating. At the same time there was a strong resolve building. A soft warm light welcomed her. As if it was gently patting her back telling her this was okay. That this was who she really was.

She had thought about taking the bracelet off for a moment. But she was afraid that if she did, she would be in too much pain and wouldn’t be able to do whatever it is she was trying to do. She closed her eyes and let the light guide her. A prism of lights sparkled around her. She relaxed into the glow and let its warmth guide her. Her thoughts swarmed to Trey. And she felt as if a piece of herself had projected to him. She was suddenly slammed back by darkness. Cold needles attacked her skin and stung at her hands. She winced as the pain became more intense.

“Keep going. You mustn’t stop.” A sweet voice said from behind her. It was weird. She knew the voice was there and she knew Lance was still there. But she felt like she wasn’t completely in that spot. She could hear Lance question the person, but her focus drifted away from that spot.

Pain erupted from her body as she was once again bashed backwards. This time she felt a set of small warm hands land on her back to help steady her.

“You are straining yourself. You should have taken that bracelet off. Keep focusing.” The voice was calm and gentle. She could feel the light from the person as her hands warmed her body. The pain had vanished, and a serene calm fell upon her.

“Good job. You did so good. Now relax and follow my voice.”

Kailee’s eyes fluttered. She blinked at the set of green eyes that were flipping from her to someone else. Kailee turned her head to the side to see a beautiful young girl with shining blonde hair. The girl smiled at Kailee and moved over so that she was also in front of her.

“Look how beautiful you are.” The girl said kneeling on the ground in front of her. “How are you feeling? Are you okay? You really should take that cuff off of you. That is only going to make everything you do harder.”

“I’m okay I think.” Kailee looked off towards the distance. Was she able to do anything? What did she do? “What happened? Who are you?”

“I’m Leeta.” The blonde-haired beauty said with a sweet smile. She then tilted her head to the side. “You don’t know what you were doing just now?”

Kailee shook her head no. And Lance grabbed onto Kailee and pulled her protectively to his side while looking at the girl with distrust.

Leeta giggled and rolled her eyes at Lance. “Well, I’m not going to hurt her. You don’t know about yourself yet, do you?” She gave Kailee a sad smile when she saw her shake her head no again. “Well, let me see. It is hard to explain but I’ll try. You sent a shield of sorts out from your body. You were able to shine your light and freeze the demon that had invaded.”

“Demon?!” Kailee said with wide eyes.

“Trey could have handled a demon on his own. Who are you? How do you know what is going on away from here?” Lance glared at the girl.

“I am this realms forest fairy. I am connected to the forest. They whisper to me their secrets. They are all connected through the earth. I know what happens in my whole territory because the woods show me.” Leeta smiled and looked into Lance’s green eyes. She closed her eyes and touched the ground. “The demon Balor took Trey by surprise. His presence was hidden, and he was able to strike first. Then a warlock joined in. Darkness is gathering. They are trying to secure a future for Bane.” Leeta opened her eyes and looked between Kailee and Lance. “It seems like a Grum and Reggie showed up and the demon vanished but they killed the warlock.”

“Is Trey alright?” Kailee asked as she adjusted to her knees.

Leeta smiled and nodded. “Even without you he would have been just fine. But you prevented him from being hit again. Instead, you took a portion of the hit. You felt the stabbing pain, didn’t you?” Kailee nodded her head. “That is your shield’s ability. It is really difficult to explain but you can block magic attacks. But you will feel a portion of the pain that was meant to be felt. Any physical injuries you sustain will be minor unless the attack is very powerful. Usually you will just get some small scraps or burns like those red marks on your arm now. They will be gone by the morning. Even faster once your powers are completely ready.”

“Oh, so can I help anyone like that?” Kailee asked while Lance continued to keep his arm on her protectively. He was staring at Leeta with piercing eyes.

“If you are there, yes. But as far as sending your shield out to them, no. You can only do this… well you can only do this for someone like your husband or your child. It is different than say casting your shield up here in front of him.” Leeta said as she motioned to Lance. “But when you project it to someone who is far away from you…you are taking too much power. This leaves you vulnerable. This would put you at risk of being killed.” Leeta said, looking down at the ground sadly.

“How do you know so much about this?” Kailee asked quietly.

Leeta smiled. “I may look young, but I have been around for a long time. And I know all about you. The forest is always whispering to me about you and how you are doing. I know Alistair has visited you a couple times. Sorry he can be a bit impatient, but he isn’t bad.”

“Alistair?” Lance asked.

“The werewolf.” Leeta said simply. This made Lance’s eyes grow darker and a low sound escaped from his chest.

“You know what he wants? About my awakening? Can you tell me more?” Kailee asked almost frantically.

Leeta stood up. “Very soon, Kailee. Preparations are being made. And you have a choice that you will have to make very soon. Your new friends and husband are not going to like this, but we will be taking you soon.” Lance growled and stood up holding Kailee behind him as he glared at Leeta. “This is her choice to make. Not yours, not HIS, but hers.”

Leeta leaned to the side to look at Kailee. “I’ll be there to help guide you when the time comes. And you will get the answers to the questions that are weighing on your mind.” She turned and took a couple steps away.

“Wait.” Kailee said, stepping out in front of Lance. She watched as Leeta turned to look at her. “Was it my mother who had magic?”

“They both did, but it is your mothers’ abilities that are waking up in you.”

“The night my mother died… how is it that I lived? Is it because I am immune to fire?” Kailee asked.

Leeta looked down at the ground regrettably. “No. Your parents laid down their lives for you.”

“They were killed then. Was it by my uncle? And how did them dying protect me?” Kailee wanted to know the truth for sure.

Leeta looked at her feeling conflicted. Her feet shifted her weight and she avoided eye contact for a moment. “Yes and no. Your uncle is not all that he seems. And he isn’t working alone. I know you know about him trying to bring back Bane. But he isn’t doing this alone… Your mother had a choice then. Her and your father could have easily won the fight that day. They wouldn’t have even broken a sweat. But you had been taken.” Leeta looked at Kailee and smiled. “Your mother could not be killed by the likes of them. But she couldn’t allow for you to be killed. So, they bargained their lives in exchange for you to live. It was a b***d vow. Your uncle was to keep you protected and safe until you reached the age of twenty. By this time, your mother knew you would have received your powers. She also knew we would come for you after you turned twenty even if it meant risking our own lives.”

“Why my uncle though? I would have been better off living under a rock.” Kailee said confused.

“That was your uncles’ stipulation. He would allow you to live if you stayed under his care. What your mother did not know was that he never had any intentions of killing you. The trees have told me many things but his exact intention for you he has never said, but I can guess. If he only knew about you completely, he never would have traded you.”

Leeta looked at Lance. “Fate has a way of making sure those who must be protected are. And you ended up going to Clover estate before your twentieth birthday. Where you are now being guarded and kept safe. We still have to take you Kailee. But then you will know everything. And you can make your own choices.”

“What am I? Why don’t I remember that night?” Kailee asked. Leeta smiled and shook her head no.

“Some memories are best forgotten… We are coming for you soon Kailee.” Leeta looked at Lance with determination. “And no matter who is guarding you they will not be able to prevent us from bringing you where you belong.”

Lance growled and glared at Leeta. “Is that a fact? You know who you are messing with right? Be very careful. If you touch her, he will NOT. LET. IT. GO.”

“He will have to let Kailee make her choice. That is how it works. She will choose like her mother before her.” Leeta said sternly.

“What choice?” Lance scoffed with a low growl.

“That is not YOUR concern. Such bullies. That is what you are. A bunch of tyrants.” Leeta looked at Kailee. “But you have no idea who you have right there.”

“I know WHO she belongs to and that is enough.” Lance spat out angrily.

“She doesn’t just belong to HIM.” Leeta snapped back. She clicked her tongue and shook her head. “There is no use. It is like talking to a stone wall. You might be strong, but your head is too dense to comprehend what is important. Just keep watch on her and don’t let anything happen to her. There is evil out there that will be searching for her.” She looked over at Kailee. She wanted to tell her more but now was not the time. “We will be seeing you soon.” And then she leaped into the air, vanishing.
