The three men glanced at one another and then Lance looked at Kailee and smiled. “We will let Trey tell you about that.”

“I like the idea of we tell when she tells.” Reggie said with a grin.

“Maybe I won’t want to associate with the likes of you anyways.” Kailee gave them a soft smile and then glanced out to the sun. “I don’t feel like Trey is in any pain. But I want to get him back now. What should we do?”

Reggie sighed. “Something like this is too big for us to decide on our own.”

Kailee sighed in agitation. “I’m not waiting around for something bad to happen to him. And if your kind can’t get near him then I should try.”

“We can’t risk anything happening to you Kailee. We need to think about this. I want him back too. Believe me Kailee. This is killing me. But we are trapped right now.” Lance said with a frown. “If she will really kill him if we try to rescue him then this pins us down, and YOU going is not an option.”

“Who do we know that can do this for us?” Grum said, letting his eyes fall on Reggie.

“Who wants to risk going against Cresha? We are probably the only ones.” Reggie said and leaned his head back against the stone wall.

Kailee could feel herself getting agitated. Trey was hers and she wanted him back. She smiled to herself then. Since when did she become this possessive? But she had. In that moment thinking how someone had Trey and was holding him against his will she had a type of savageness run through her. It was a rare moment for her. For the first time she knew she could easily take that woman’s life and not think twice about it.

She reached down and touched the metal on her wrist. Taking it off would not make her fully awaken. At least she was fairly certain it wouldn’t. Otherwise, why else would those in the forest realm be so keen on taking her? There had to be more to it. On the other hand, by removing the metal cuff she would be more connected to her magic. Which in the moment was something she needed. Plus, if she was this mate thing they were talking about, she wanted to know it the next time she saw Trey.

“How long has it been since he was taken?” Lance asked, looking at Reggie and Grum.

“It was him there when we showed up. I’m certain of that.” Grum gave him an opened eye nod to allude to something unspoken. “They must have captured him right after we left to investigate… something else further.”

Reggie nodded his head in agreement. “It’s been several hours since then. It is starting to touch evening now. I’d guess he was taken about five to six hours ago.”

“I am thinking along the same lines as you.” Grum said with a nod. The three men looked at each other with a sense of acknowledgement.

“What are you all thinking?” Kailee asked quietly.

“We are waiting to see if Trey can escape on his own.” Reggie said simply.

Kailee looked horrified. They were banking on him escaping on his own. “I don’t like the sounds of that.”

“Trey is very strong. If there is a chance of escape, he will replace it.” Lance said with confidence.

“Who is the strongest out of you four?” Kailee asked curiously.

“Trey easily.” Lance said proudly.

Reggie folded his arms and nodded. “It would be Trey without question.”

“Oh? Really?” Kailee said as she glanced over the three men.

“Who did you think was the strongest?” Reggie asked with a smirk.

“Hmm I guess I assumed it was Grum.” Kailee said and Grum let out a low snicker.

“Hmph. I’m stronger than Grum.” Reggie said with a snort.

“Should we put that to the test?” Grum said with a crooked smile.

“So even you guys don’t know which one of you is stronger?” Kailee looked at Lance who sighed with his hands out.

“We each have different abilities. Honestly it would depend on what we were doing. Physical strength versus abilities versus the complete package. But Trey beats us all in every category.” Lance said with a small smile.

“I’m guessing that Cresha probably already knows that Trey is strong. I’m sure she was prepared. I don’t think waiting to see if he can make his escape is wise.” Kailee said and watched Lance nod his head in agreement.

“Look. I hate to do this but…” Kailee said and took a deep breath. “You three can’t tell me what to do. I am going after my husband. And that is all there is to it.”

Reggie smirked and looked up at her. “We can easily keep you here, Kailee.”

“Are you planning to lock me up and guard me?” Kailee said pointedly. She raised her eyes and looked at each man showing her determination. “I’m certain if I take this cuff off then I will be able to replace Trey.” She reached up and touched the metal.

“Kailee if you take that off it is all going to come surging through. It will be painful.” Grum said with a frown.

Reggie stepped forward and walked up to Kailee. “I can help you level out your magic.”

“Reggie!” Lance yelled.

“I’m not saying we send her in to get Trey. But we don’t even know where he is. We need help here. And if she can replace him… then I will risk Trey’s wrath.” Reggie said with a low growl. “What about you?”

Lance slunk his shoulders in defeat. He was trying to be composed but it was killing him that Trey had been taken. It was bothering all of them. If Kailee had the ability to at least locate Trey it was something they needed to try.

“Okay, but Kailee if it gets to be too much, please say something.” Lance walked up behind Kailee and rested his arm around her. “I can’t do anything but offer my support.”

Kailee smiled up at him. “Okay, I’m ready.” Grum placed his hand on her shoulder and then nodded for her to continue. She reached down and placed her fingers on the metal around her wrist. She breathed in deeply through her nose and pulled it off her.

She stood there waiting for something but was surprised when she didn’t feel any pain. Maybe because she has been slowly learning to adapt to it that it was slowly being learned by her body? Or maybe because she wasn’t overly emotional? Instead, though she could feel the pull in her chest intensifying. As if the air flow had been blocked and it was gasping for air. She squeezed her hand over her chest as she felt her soul screaming out to her.

The strange panicking feeling began to swirl inside of her. Like the first time she knew Trey was in trouble. Only this time it was different. She felt urgency pulling her to protect Trey. She closed her eyes and began pushing the familiar shield from her body again. She felt like she needed to wrap Trey in a safety net. Just like before, a prism of lights sparkled around her. She relaxed into the light and projected her warmth to the man she was concentrating on.

She felt herself lifting a barrier surrounding him with warmth. It was almost comforting feeling her connection to him that her guard was let down and what came next shocked her. She was suddenly slammed backwards, luckily landing in Lance’s chest. She felt warm liquid moving slowly over her arms. A stinging icy burning pain slashed against her forehead. Her hot b***d boiled over the cold cut.

“Kailee.”

She heard the muffled sound of her name and voices talking. But it was distant. A chill was creeping up her spine. Not too long ago something like this would have made her afraid. But not now. Now she felt a flame ignite inside of her. It was seeking out the chill to attack. She didn’t know what she was doing, but she was angry. And she was feeling protective and possessive over whoever took Trey. She felt something surge inside of her and in an extraordinary burst she felt it leave her as she sent it outward.

“What the hell is that?” Grum asked in astonishment as he looked out the window.

Kailee collapsed into Lance, and he lifted her body into his arms. She felt her strength diminish as her shield flowed back towards her. She could feel the pain from the cuts and lashes over her body. Her eyes fluttered open as she leveled out her breathing. She could feel it. Trey’s presence was not as far as it was. It was coming closer. She looked to see Reggie examining her intently. Grum turned to look at her from the window.

“I think she did that…” Grum said in astonishment.

“Kailee, are you okay?” Lance looked over her wounds. The shield was supposed to only give her a minor version of what she encountered right? So why was she cut so badly? Unless that is how bad the attack would have been.

“Mmmhmm. I think I was able to help.” She said in a hushed breath. She curled into Lance’s body seeking his warmth. “I’m cold.”

Lance looked up at Reggie with worried eyes.

“She was hit by Cresha’s magic.” Reggie said quietly as he traced his fingers around her wounds.

“Trey. It’s Trey, I can see him coming.” Grum said with relief.

“Go see to Trey.” Reggie said. “We need to take care of Kailee.” Reggie moved down towards a couch along the wall. “Sit with her here. Keep her close to your chest Lance. Keep her warm.”

Kailee felt liquid ice attack against her body, but she was fighting it back with her own fire. She was exhausted and pressed her body into Lance’s warmth to help aid her.

“Damn it she needs more warmth. Lance, take your shirt off and hold her.” Reggie said as he held a heated compress on her arm. He looked up to Lance. “Don’t suppress your heat. Let it out.”

Lance nodded his head and quickly did as he was told. His body temperature quickly rose to an unnaturally hot temperature. One that would burn any regular human. But to Kailee, the warmth was inviting and relaxing.

A loud squawk was heard, and Sparks flew in quickly through the open window. He landed on top of Kailee and wrapped his wings over her body while it ignited high with flames.

Kailee, what did you do you crazy girl.

“Sparks, you are back.” Kailee said with her eyes closed. She smiled and placed her hand on his back. He was like a warm blanket.

I’m back… thanks to you. You shouldn’t have done something like that while you are not fully awakened.

“Where is she!” Trey’s voice sounded loudly.

The strong scent of cedar and honey rushed into her nostrils. Her body was screaming at her loudly. Her eyes squinted through the exhaustion and she could see a blurred figure moving towards her. He didn’t have his mask on but her focus was unclear. But the sound in her head was not.

She drifted into unconsciousness in that moment. The word still echoing in her mind.

“Mate.”
