Who Is My Husband -
Scene 31
They were all sitting around in Trey’s bedroom. Grum, Lance, Reggie, Trey and Sparks. Trey was sitting on the bed while holding Kailee next to his body. It was now mid-day the next day. Kailee had remained unconscious this whole time. During this time they had explained everything to Trey. Lance filled them in on everything he learned from the fairy Leeta and about Kailee’s shield. Sparks couldn’t speak to them but listened to the events they were explaining.
“I wish we could communicate with him. He could tell us what he knows.” Trey said, looking over at Sparks.
Kailee stirred ever so slightly. She felt like she had fallen off a tree. Her whole body ached. She felt the warmth of the man next to her and could lightly smell his sweet scent. It was strange that his scent wasn’t as strong as it had been. Then she became aware of the metal bracelet that was back on her wrist. Slowly, her eyes opened. She was staring into a bare chest at first. Her eyes then traveled upwards and were met with the familiar golden mask. Inwardly she sighed. He still was going to wear the mask. She could see his green eyes looking back at her. And though it was hushed, the voice mate whispered out again.
Kailee.
She whipped her head to the sound of Spark’s voice. She tried to adjust herself upwards but winced from the burning pain over her body.
“Easy, Kailee.” Trey’s voice said in a gentle tone. He helped adjust her into a sitting position in his chest.
Kailee wasn’t sure where to start. She wanted to replace out about both Sparks and Trey. But before she could speak Trey already started.
“Your friend here came and set me free.” Trey said quietly.
“So that’s what you were planning to do.” Her voice surprisingly came out weak. She watched as he fluttered closer to her.
If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it. You shielded us both. Your body took on very strong ice magic. It is why it is taking your body so long to heal.
Kailee smiled. “I’m glad I was able to help.”
Sparks squawked at her angrily. You need to be more careful. That was reckless. If something would have happened to you… My life means nothing in the end. It is your life that is important. And you are being irresponsible with it.
“Yeah yea yea.” Kailee muttered and rolled her eyes.
You don’t even realize your importance. You could have ruined everything.
Kailee snapped. She was enraged. “Stop making it like your life isn’t important. Because it is to me!” Her voice was strained and hoarse. But her look was fierce. “The words you are looking for are thank you.” She said coldly. She then tilted her head over to Trey. “And don’t you dare think about lecturing me too.”
Trey chuckled, wrapping her body deeper into his chest. He looked at Sparks. “Well, I see you got her nice and agitated for me.”
I’m sorry Kailee. I just can’t let anything happen to you. We need your light in this world. He hopped back a bit and turned his head to the opened balcony. I’ll be back to check on you soon. You need to rest today. You not only overexerted yourself but were injured. I mean it… He turned his head and squawked loudly at her. Strictly bed rest. He then spread out his wings and flew out through the window.
“I’ll go to the kitchen and have some soup made to be brought in for you.” Lance said as the other two men stood as well.
“Rest up Kailee. I’ll have to show you how to really skip rocks soon.” Reggie said with a smug grin towards Lance.
The three men slowly retreated from the room to give the couple some private time to talk.
Kailee felt a bit awkward at first. The tingling sensation warmed her body as she traced her fingers over Trey’s chest. “Are you okay?”
“It seems like I am very okay because of you.” Trey sighed and he looked down at her. “It isn’t that I am not appreciative, but I don’t want you getting hurt.”
“Well, I don’t want you getting hurt either.” Kailee said with a frown. She paused for a moment. “I’m glad you were able to get away.”
“After Sparks freed me, we were making a run for it. Then Cresha tried to prevent us from leaving. At the same moment, a shield covered over us. But then it fired some sort of energy back at Cresha. It gave us the chance we needed to escape her magical trap she had set up. Normally the likes of her would not bother me. But she had the place well-fortified. I’m told the shield and the attack is all from you.” Trey said quietly.
Kailee nodded into his side. “Umm why is the metal cuff back on me?”
“Sparks actually picked it up off the ground for us to put back on you. I don’t know what he is saying with his bird chirping nonsense, but I think he wants you to wear it a bit longer. In either case, it will help keep your power from unexpectedly surging.”
Kailee listened to the sound of his breathing as she continued to rest her head on his chest. She wasn’t sure how to bring up the whole mate concept thing. She had a feeling he was waiting for her to talk about it. Maybe he wasn’t sure if she knew because she was once again wearing the bracelet. But she had heard the whisper again even now, just not as loud.
“How did you know I was in danger?” Trey asked quietly.
“I’m not sure exactly. I guess I could feel it.” Her voice came out quietly.
“Hmmm that is interesting.” Trey said as he twirled her hair in his fingers.
She slowly sat up away from him while Trey guided her. She then turned to look at Trey. When their eyes met, she felt the tug and heard the whisper again. “The reason you traded for me was because I was your mate?” Kailee asked as she bit her bottom l*p.
Behind his mask he smiled. He reached his hand out and trailed it over her cheek. “You are mine Kailee. You were the one who was born to be mine. But it wasn’t just because you were my mate.” His fingers traced over her lips. “Kailee… am I also yours?”
Kailee touched the metal cuff on her wrist and frowned. “It was louder before, and your scent was stronger before.” She then raised her eyes up to his. “But I still smell you and I can hear the whispers.” She watched as he adjusted his body more upright, and he wrapped his arms around her gently. She could tell he was trying to be mindful of her tenderness.
“The pull is so strong and then I couldn’t help but fall in love with the person you are. It is still your choice even with having a mate. But when you accept it, your feelings come together much faster. Falling in love with you was easy for me. And one day I hope you will feel the same.”
Kailee looked up at his mask with a small frown. “Is this still necessary? I mean if I can recognize your scent and know when you are in danger?” She gave him a small smile.
“But from a distance you can’t locate my scent with your bracelet on. It might not be necessary, but it is a precaution to keep you safe. I can’t have anyone knowing that you are mine. Cresha figured out that I am the one hiding behind the mask. But even if she knows she would have to point me out directly for anyone else to know. This is why I will also be mixing it up and having Lance, Reggie and Grum wear the mask at times. It will allow me to move without being suspected. And now that you know I am your mate… If you know my face your eyes will always follow me. Trust me, I know.” Trey brushed his hands over her arms. “I just need to keep you safe. And it is killing me that you still ended up hurt because of me.”
“I’m okay though. And you are back and safe. If something…” Kailee bit her bottom l*p as it began to quiver. “If something had happened to you Trey…” She whispered out as the tears began to trickle. “I realized after everything that I can’t lose you. I love you too.” She admitted quietly.
“Close your eyes Kailee. And don’t open them.” Trey’s voice came out low and seductive.
Kailee did as she was told and closed her eyes. Moments later she felt his warm lips press into her own. She felt his hand gently cup her face as he continued to move against her lips. His hot breath beat against her skin as he began to trail k****s from her lips to her neck. He suckled on her neck for a moment before he poked his tongue out to lick it slowly.
“You know Kailee.” Trey’s breath beat against her neck. “Those who are mates can become even more connected.” He began to lightly nip and tease at her neck. “When two mates agree to be together usually one or both of them mark the other. This further connects their mate bond. It also allows certain powers to flow to their mate.”
“How do they mark their mate?” Kailee asked with her eyes closed enjoying the sensations Trey was causing.
“It depends on the species.” He nipped at her skin and tugged at it with his teeth once more before he slowly trailed upwards again. He took her lips again and dipped his tongue slowly into her mouth to greet her own. He pushed into her deepening the k**s forgetting for a moment how delicate she was. A soft whimper escaped from her throat, and he immediately pulled away. “I’m sorry Kailee, are you okay?”
Kailee giggled. “I’m fine. That wasn’t an I’m hurt noise.” She smiled as she bit her bottom l*p. She listened to his low throaty growl. She heard some slight noise on his end.
“You can open your eyes now.” Trey said. “I need to stop before I can’t.”
Kailee looked back up at the golden mask and tilted her head to the side while smiling at him. “I figured you were telling me that for a reason. Are you not going to mark me?” She listened to his low growl reverberate from his chest.
“Not yet. Because your body isn’t in the right condition for it.” Trey’s voice was low and husky.
Kailee blushed and she nodded her head slowly. She understood that he was saying he wanted more from her. She had admitted that she loved him. And he said he would not touch her again until her feelings had changed, and they had. But now she was injured.
“So ummm… what species are you?” Kailee asked, trying to change the lustful atmosphere.
