“Hi, I’m Jane.” A sweet smile was spread over her face as she looked from Kailee to Trey.

Kailee watched as the girls’ brown eyes lingered over Trey. It was something she could not miss especially with this new possessive attribute she was now carrying. She watched as the girls’ eyes fell on Trey’s arm that was wrapped around her. And as if sensing Jane’s dislike for it Trey pulled Kailee into his front. He lowered his head into the crook of Kailee’s neck and looked up to Jane.

“Jane. This is my wife and my mate, Kailee.” Trey smirked behind his masked as he held Kailee possessively into him. He really wasn’t the type to rub salt in the wound. However, he had made it quite clear to Jane how he felt about Kailee. And since she wasn’t convinced, he would have to show her.

Kailee smiled as she side eyed the golden mask. He was making a statement to both women. One of them was his and the other was not. He straightened up and then his eyes narrowed onto Jane. “I expect you to treat my mate with the proper respect that she deserves. I hope you understand that things will not turn out well for you if you don’t.”

Jane’s sick overly sweet smile reached over her lips. “Of course, Trey. No matter how the outcome turns out I hope we can be friends.” She looked at Kailee with her venomous smile.

Kailee tilted her head and studied the girl for a moment. This girl was underestimating her. She was thinking she was superior because of whatever it is she was. It didn’t matter what creature Jane was, if she touched Trey, she would put her in her place. Kailee was told she was strong and probably stronger than Trey. She could not help the overwhelming feeling of wanting to warn this girl to back off. She forced back a smile of her own.

“I don’t see anything getting in the way of that. However…” Kailee took a stepped into Trey and placed her hand over his chest. “If you touch what is mine being friends will be the least of your concerns. You will have to hope I allow you to live.” She watched as the girls’ eyes bulged wide and felt the gentle vibrations of Trey’s laughter under her fingertips.

“Damn I replace that hot.” Reggie said as he walked up from the side. “Trey buddy… you need to take a few moments alone to take care of yourself there?” Reggie chuckled playfully as he elbowed Trey’s side. “I bet that is ‘hard’ to hear.”

“Once my little minx is completely better, I plan to thoroughly pay her body back. Every. Single. Inch. Of. Her. Body. I plan to taste it all.” Trey said in a low seductive tone.

Kailee giggled. “Is that my punishment?” She looked up at him and watched him slowly nod his head. “Well then I will keep it coming.” She bit her bottom l*p smiling as she winked at him. She could hear a low throaty sound coming from him as Reggie laughed loudly.

“I’m so glad you are here Kailee. I love to see someone handle this beast so well.” Reggie chuckled and then lifted his attention to a seething Jane. She was trying to hide it, but he could see how pissed her eyes were. Inwardly he smirked as he walked up to her. “Now look at this lovely flower just waiting to be plucked. How did you sleep my dear?” Reggie had to swallow the bile that rose up his throat as he put on his act.

“I slept very well, thank you for asking Reg.” Jane said sweetly. She looked at Kailee out of the corner of her eye as she purposely used a nickname. She wanted Kailee to know that she knew these men and wanted her to think they were close.

Reggie wrapped his arm around her shoulder. “Well allow me to escort you to the breakfast hall.” He smiled as he felt the girl curl into his side. He was hoping he would be able to seal the deal within a week. But… he may only need a day or so.

Trey’s eyes flickered as he watched Reggie and Jane in front of him. He could see how accepting she was of his touch. He had seen his cousin at work countless times. And it was very rare that he didn’t succeed. He could see the confident look on his cousins face as he looked ahead. Under normal circumstances he never would have condoned something like this. However, Jane adamantly refused to give up on Trey even after he pleaded. He didn’t tell Kailee this but the biggest one pushing back was Jane.

Jane was someone who was always intended for Trey if he never found his mate. By a certain age he was obligated to take her for his mate. But Trey had found his mate, but because Kailee wasn’t their kind Jane used this as her advantage. And she also had the family backing her for a chance. He never thought that Jane was malicious but just that she had convinced herself that she would be with him. Now she was having a hard time accepting it. Her staying here with them was also his family’s way of letting Jane see things for herself and come to terms. They could see how adamant he was about Kailee. He also saw the fear in their eyes when he threatened to take Kailee and leave if they wouldn’t accept her.

He had always heard about the mate pull from others. It is something that you can’t understand until you actually feel it. It is like no one else exists but that person. You are constantly drawn to them and are looking for their face. And when you are apart from them you spend that time constantly wondering what they are doing. Trey was always thinking of Kailee before. He often thought about ripping her uncle apart and stealing Kailee away from there. Grum and Lance had to once hold him back from doing just that. After all, they needed to know more about who all was involved. And they couldn’t do that if Fredrick was dead.

Trey smiled as he felt the soothing tingles of his mate walking in his arms. It was the best feeling in the world. He heard that the connection would be even stronger after he marked her. If that was the case it would be incredibly intense because it was already strong. He walked into the dining room and saw Lance and Grum were already seated. He pulled out a chair and scooted Kailee into it. He then walked over to a desk in the room and opened the drawer pulling out his half mask. He switched his masked while his back was turned so he would be able to join them for breakfast.

Jane sat across from Kailee with Reggie at her side. Her eyes flickered as she watched Trey switch masks. Her eyes watched his movements closely as he kissed Kailee’s head before sitting down at the head of the table. He was sitting diangle from Kailee but only a few feet away. Lance sat at Kailee’s other side while Grum sat at the foot of the table. The maids had poured them all tea while they waited for the food to be brought to them.

Jane put on a fake frown and looked at Trey. “It must be hard to sit around in that mask all day. After the maids bring in the food, we can ask that they don’t enter so you can take the mask off. We have all seen his face, right?” Her eyes looked over at Kailee knowing very well that she has yet to see what Trey looks like. She then feigned innocence as she stared at Kailee.

“Oh? You haven’t seen his face yet, have you? Awe, you poor dear you have no idea what he looks like do you?” Jane said with a fake sweet sincerity.

Kailee was an expert at picking up on her fakeness. She had grown up with fake and she could spot it easily. Trey started to say something, but Kailee reached her hand out and placed it in the air holding her palm out towards him. She smiled at him and then turned her attention to Jane and shrugged.

“The thing is I didn’t marry Trey for his face. I don’t mind if it remains hidden from me. You see I married him for a whole other reason and for another part that he keeps hidden in his nether regions.”

Lance and Reggie spit their drinks out while Trey let out a low growl as he rested his head in his hand. Behind his mask his eyes were dark, and l**t filled as he lifted his gazed at Kailee. He watched the cute smile of satisfaction on her face, and he squeezed his fingers tightly together. “One more day… you have one more day to recover…” He mumbled lowly as he set his jaw. “That is all you get.”

Kailee giggled up at him. She lifted her cup of tea to her lips and took a small sip. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the poisonous daggers that was being sent her way by Jane. Jane might know her husband’s face, but Kailee knew everything else about Trey’s body. Things that Jane would never know. The maids soon brought in everyone’s meals, and they got busy preparing their food how they liked it.

“Trey, are you staying here today?” Lance asked as he took a small bite of his food.

“About that… we need to discuss some things but yes I will be heading out after breakfast. I stayed a little later today.” He glanced at Jane for a second and then looked back to Lance. “We also need to discuss how we are planning to handle the dinner party tomorrow.” Trey poked his fork on his plate as he stabbed at his eggs.

“I already have our suits here and custom tailored.” Reggie looked up at Trey who nodded in approval. “I also have the four masks you have requested. I took the liberty to order one for Kailee as well though a bit different. We will all look the part for the masquerade. Lance will need to run back into the village and get one for Jane though.”

Kailee perked up hearing this. She looked over at Lance and smiled. “When will you be going into the village?”

Lance chuckled. “The village isn’t that interesting.”

“I think you should stay here and rest.” Trey took a bite of his eggs and looked up at Kailee.

“I’m fine. And walking will be good for me. It will be much less strenuous than the activities you are planning.” Kailee smirked as she sipped her tea. She listened to the low incoherent words Trey muttered under his growling breath.

“Grum you are going too then. She doesn’t leave your sight for a second and I do mean a second.” Trey looked up speaking harsher towards Grum taking his frustrations out on him.

“Don’t worry. I’ll watch over her closely.” Grum said tersely as he took a bite of his toast. He wasn’t a fan of talking while eating. Talking meant he didn’t have his mouth full. The dinner table was for eating… not for talking.

Kailee smiled up at Trey in appreciation. She knew he could have insisted that she stay home. And yes, something as simple as that made her love him even more. Their eyes met and held with one another. In that timeless moment it was just two mates looking at each other. And their desire for one another was only increasing. This was something else Kailee was slowly noticing. She was afraid how strong it would be with the metal cuff off her wrist. But her desire for Trey was reaching an almost uncontrollable level. Her soreness kept her behaved last night, but she had a feeling there would not be many quiet nights between them. And that was fine with her.
