Reggie g*****d and flopped down on the ground. He tilted his head up to Kailee and shook his head sadly. “The problem isn’t your teacher. The problem is the pupil is unteachable.”

“Awe, Reggie! You are giving up on me. And after all we have been through. I can do this. I just need to be shown again.” Kailee held a smooth rock out to Reggie and smiled.

“I can only show you so much. You know how it is done. You can see how a bird flies but you can’t do it. You can see how this is done but it is a skill that you can not obtain. It is best to give up before I regret more of the life I have wasted on your incompetence.” Reggie smirked as he saw her gaze turn cold.

Kailee chuckled darkly and spun the stone in her hand. “You are calling me a lost cause?” She looked at the rock in her hand and then looked up to Reggie beneath her eyelids.

“Facts are facts.” Reggie said with a smirk still playing on his lips.

“I see. Facts are facts…” An idea flickered in her head as she slowly strolled away from Reggie and onto the stone dock that reached out onto the lake. She turned around once she reached the end. She smiled sweetly at Reggie. “If I jump in Reggie… the fact is that you’ll also be jumping in the water. Are you ready to get wet?”

Reggie chuckled and rose to his feet. “Now why would I hop in there after you?”

Kailee shrugged. “I don’t know… why would you?” She bit her bottom l*p as she smiled and stepped backwards into the water. The moment she did she enveloped herself in a bubble to keep herself dry. She pushed the bubble lower and lower in the water until it rested on the bottom of the lake.

“I’m glad I came on this ride!”

Kailee almost jumped in shock as she looked down at the little red shirted gnome.

“Pyro?! I didn’t know you were here. Where are the others?” Kailee glanced around.

“Still up there on the dock. I clung onto you at the last minute, curious what you were going to do. This is amazing. I am underwater and completely dry.” Pyro then smiled evilly. “You know… I can up this game a little bit.”

“What do you mean?” Kailee giggled looking down curiously at her little friend.

“When he jumps in looking for you… and he will, I can make us invisible for a few seconds. Long enough to keep him searching in the water longer.” Pyro flexed his fingers together. “Oh, I love seeing dragons at our mercy.”

Kailee laughed. “Are you riding on my success?”

“A win for you is a win for me.” Pyro laughed and looked up towards the surface.

Kailee watched as the water broke at the surface. But was shocked when there was a second splash that followed the first.

“Pyro… don’t.” Kailee said softly. She could see the panic in Reggie’s eyes and then saw the worry from the other set of eyes next to him…Trey. The moment their eyes landed on hers she could see the instant relief. “Maybe this wasn’t a good game to play…” She frowned and looked at Pyro. She then raised the bubble up and the men followed her back up to the surface.

She lifted herself up onto the dock and set Pyro down on the dock. Two sets of soaked arms landed on the dock and hoisted their bodies up. She went to apologize but Trey’s soaked body was pressed against her and his wet arms held her captive. His breathing and heart rate were fast.

“I’m sorry Trey… I was playing a prank on Reggie.” Kailee felt horrible seeing how scared they were.

“I saw you go into the water as I was walking down the path. But when you never resurfaced… Damn.” Trey leaned his head into hers, breathing in her scent to calm himself down.

Reggie chuckled. “I think you got me back and then some.”

“You hopped in the water after me, Reggie.” Kailee peered out at him and winked.

“You hopped in the water after me, Reggie.” Kailee peered out at him and winked.

“I didn’t think you had something like that in you. I’ll be more cautious of you in the future.” Reggie lifted himself to his feet as his clothes dripped with water.

“What did you do to my girl to make her jump into the lake?” Trey turned and snapped at Reggie.

Kailee was shocked at how hostile he sounded. This wasn’t his play reaction but there was real anger there. She quickly raised her hands to cup his face, directing it back to her. She smiled at him. “He was just teasing me. And I was just teasing him back. I’m so sorry that I worried you though. You were just an innocent that got caught up in my bad form of play.”

Trey’s eyes softened as he looked at Kailee. “Sorry, Reggie…” He didn’t mean to overreact. He knew he was still responding out of the fear he had.

Reggie chuckled. “You can’t scare me off no matter how you speak to me. I guess auntie isn’t the only one who can be extreme.”

Kailee smiled and bit her bottom l*p. Three other gnomes popped into view and walked up to Pyro.

“Wow you are completely dry!”

“What was it like down there?”

“I’m so jealous I want the next turn.”

“Wait a minute…” Reggie squinted down at the little gnomes. “You knew she was playing us… didn’t you?”

The gnomes all grinned and shrugged.

“So you could have warned us?” Trey sighed and shook his head with a small smile.

“We could have but what fun would there have been in that?” Dio grinned. “Sorry, but we thought this was a fun game for her to play. This is the sort of game we enjoy.”

“Trey I’m sorry for scaring you.” Kailee said as she slid her hands around his waist.

“Hey, what about me?” Reggie furrowed his eyebrows with a frown.

Kailee grinned at him and shrugged. “You called me a lost cause… I have no regrets.”

Trey shot Reggie a look. “Why would you say that?”

“You try teaching her to skip a rock. You’d be better off teaching the rock to skip itself.” Reggie chuckled, putting his hands behind his head.

“You still can’t master skipping rocks?” Trey turned his attention back to Kailee who frowned.

“I don’t know what I am doing wrong.” She pouted, sticking her l*p out.

Trey chuckled. “Alright. I’ll work on it with you in little sessions.”

“Really?” Kailee asked with a widening smile.

“Let’s see how long it takes before Trey gives up.” Reggie chuckled.

“Maybe we should have just warned Trey and let the other one search under the water.” Dio said, giving Reggie an annoyed look.

“Oh look at these funny little rocks. I wonder how they will skip over the water’s surface.” Reggie turned his gaze down looking over the little men.

“See ya!” Dio said and the four gnomes vanished.

“Guess they didn’t want to play…” Reggie chuckled and turned to see Kailee giving him an unamused look. “What? They were asking for it.”

“Come on baby, let’s get changed into dry clothes and freshen up before dinner. You know… there is this amazing tub that we keep heated. It is more like a small pool of heated water. The water is treated with rose petals. It is attached right off of my room, our own personal heated bath… Want to take a dip?” Trey asked in a low seductive tone.

Reggie grabbed his shirt and tried to hold the buttons together. “I’m not just some piece of meat Trey. If you want a happy ending you need to at least dine with me first. Well, you can cast those fiendish eyes on another pound of flesh.” Reggie smirked and walked away.

Trey pulled Kailee into his chest tighter, letting his body heat warm them. He leaned his head down and trailed light k****s from her cheek down to her neck. He let his lips brush over her skin and smiled as she shuddered. He loved eliciting those kinds of reactions from her. “Soooo… about that bath…” He let his hot airy breath hit her skin as his lips brushed over her as he talked.

“You hopped in the water after me, Reggie.” Kailee peered out at him and winked.

“Mmm I don’t think we have time for the type of bath you are wanting to take… do we? We will be late for dinner. And I don’t want to be late on my first day here.” Kailee smiled and pulled away from him slightly.

“You are right. We should at least wait for the second day to be late for dinner.” Trey grinned flashing his bright smile down at her as she giggled up at him. He kissed her forehead and sighed. “Kailee, I’m going to be busy… like I usually have been back home. But I promise I will be with you at night.”

“So just like before but without the mask?” Kailee gave him a crooked smile. “You’ll be careful?” Her eyes looked at him with worry as he continued to smile down at her.

“Don’t worry about anything. This is my kingdom here. I have home advantage.” Trey ran his fingers through Kailee’s hair. “Everything will be fine. And this will give you a good chance to become familiar with the place. This is going to be your new home soon.”

Kailee reached her hands out over Trey’s wet clothes. “Home is wherever you are. It isn’t a place. It is you.” She watched him gazing back at her. She reached her hands up and moved up on her toes. She pushed her lips into him as he pressed into her. His warm hands embraced her from behind as his lips moved against hers.

Dinner was fairly uneventful. Grum and Bethany didn’t join them and neither did Lance and his mate. Kailee was now curled in Trey’s arms. She had her head resting on his chest as her fingers slowly trailed over his skin absentmindedly.

“It’s going to be weird not being with you tomorrow.” She said quietly in the dark room. She felt his warm arms cling onto her tighter pushing her into him.

“Baby… I need you to stay close with Grum and Bethany. I need to be able to focus and that will be impossible if I am worrying about you. If you can promise me you will stay with them then I will do my best to focus on what I need to.”

“I promise Trey.” She said softly.

“And I promise that I will hold you every night. I may not join you for meals or see you during the day but I’ll always keep you warm at night. Who knows… maybe it won’t take long.”

Kailee nodded her head into his chest. She hated that he was going to be so close and yet so far away. “What will you be doing? It isn’t like you can go around in disguise here.”

“I don’t need to. I have a feeling we are dealing with some noble families and what noble family wouldn’t invite the prince in for dinner? And the more I gain their trust… and maybe even liquor them up some… the more likely I am going to replace out some interesting information.” Trey rubbed his hand over Kailee’s shoulder.

Kailee had a small frown on her face. A small, lonely feeling crept in her chest. Not only was Trey going to be away from her most of the day but this would be the longest stretch she had ever gone without seeing Sparks. She nestled her head into his chest more soaking in his warmth and scent. She felt his lips land on the top of her head.

“I love you Kailee. I’m going to miss being with you.”

She smiled as she felt her body relax into his. She closed her eyes as her chest began to fall into a rhythm. “I love you Trey.”
