Who Is My Husband -
Scene 67
Reggie walked into a location he used to always frequent. When the door opened, he was hit with the strong smell of alcohol and smoke. Loud voices and shrill laughter rang in the air. He walked up to the bar and took a seat.
“What can I get for you?” The bartender asked as he rubbed a glass cup with a cloth.
“A dragon’s fire and make it a double on the rocks.” Reggie looked around the room. He used to frequent this place a lot. He would get himself so messed up that he never remembered those evenings. He bedded random people. Anything to not feel or think. The bartender sat the drink in front of him. He held the glass in his hand and listened to the ice clinking.
As he stared at his drink, he let his mind wander over his past. Ever since he was a child he was always with Trey, Lance, Will and Lizzy. Then after his father was killed he moved to the castle. And then later Grum and Phill ended up joining their group as well.
Lizzy was being trained to be the queen’s maid. She was the cutest little girl with dark curls and deep pooling green eyes. Her laughter was so sweet. And they all loved being around her. But she was someone more special to him and Lance. Even as children.
As the years went by Reggie realized his feelings of love. Though it seemed Lizzy never noticed. To be fair he was a bit shy about it and didn’t know how to convey his feelings of emotions. But his gaze was always on her. Finally, he got up the courage to tell her how he felt. It was at this same time though that they were old enough to feel the mate pull. He remembered walking towards the flower garden and seeing Lance and Lizzy together. They were embracing one another, and he felt his heart drop. It was as if his world had been shattered again. When he lost his father, it was painful… but this was almost heart shattering.
Behind a pained smile, he congratulated the two of them on being mates. They were oblivious to his feelings. There were only two people who ever knew his feelings. And that was Trey and Lizzy’s brother Will. Shortly after they became mates Trey started spending more of his time at Clover Estates and Lance went along with him.
Reggie had lost his way and spent a blur of time getting drunk, sleeping with others and trying not to feel. He didn’t want to hurt anymore. Will tried to snap him out of it but was unsuccessful. And after quite some time… he wasn’t sure how long, but Trey had returned. Trey found Reggie in a deplorable state and dragged him out of the bar.
Reggie sipped his drink and smiled. Even in the state he was in then he remembered that day. Trey beat him to a pulp and threw him in the prisons. He kept him locked up there for days before he finally came back. Trey told him he had a job for him and needed his assistance. He basically told him he was going to work his a*s off for him and keep him so busy he wouldn’t have any time to sulk. He understood he was hurting but it was time to move forward again.
It worked. Little by little. Trey tasked him with getting information they needed and researching Bane. And time helped him. He knew when he saw Lance with her earlier today that he was officially over it. The empty feeling never came back.
“Haven’t seen you around in a while?”
A sultry voice came from a woman dressed in a long sequin gown. Reggie quirked a side smile as he tilted his head up to her. She was just the woman he wanted to see. She always had information.
“Have you missed me that much?” Reggie grinned as she took a seat next to him.
“Well? Are you going to buy me a drink?” She leaned her head on her hand as she batted her eyes at him.
Reggie motioned for the bartender to bring her a drink. One good thing came from his licentious ways… and that was he had the trust of a different network of people. If it wasn’t for Trey who knows what would have become of him? Would he have continued to spiral? He owed him a lot. And he would do whatever he could for him. He threw back the rest of his drink and slid his drink on the counter. The bartender refilled his glass and he quickly shot it down as well. He then scooted from his stool and reached his hand out to the woman next to him. Time to get some information.

Kailee leaned on the edge of the balcony and looked out over the landscape in boredom. The days have now turned into weeks. They still haven’t sorted out all the traitors though their list was growing. They were just waiting to start taking them down once they were certain they knew who everyone was.

Kailee leaned on the edge of the balcony and looked out over the landscape in boredom. The days have now turned into weeks. They still haven’t sorted out all the traitors though their list was growing. They were just waiting to start taking them down once they were certain they knew who everyone was.
Reggie, Trey and Lance were practically ghosts; she hardly saw them. Up until recently both Grum and Bethany had stayed by her side. They are both officially marked mates now. But Trey now needs Grum’s help as well so that has left her with Bethany and Lizzy. Lance’s mate Lizzy is a very sweet and quiet girl. She is kind and nice to be around, but she can’t leave the castle grounds. She is the queen’s personal maid.
“Did you not sleep well?” Bethany asked, walking up next to Kailee.
Kailee smiled. “No, I slept fine.”
“What seems to be troubling you today?”
Kailee looked over at Bethany. Already she was perceptive and could pick up Kailee’s moods. “I keep feeling like something is going to happen. Or… I don’t know. The wind seems off.” She looked over at Bethany who was glancing out over the horizon. She was taking what Kailee was saying very seriously. “It could be nothing…”
“Trust your instincts Kailee.” Bethany smiled at her.
“Maybe I just need to go for a walk.” Kailee inhaled deeply and smiled at Bethany. “Everyone is busy today, including Lizzy. Let’s head down to the lake. We can work on my stone skipping skills.”
Bethany let out a loud g***n. “There are some things in life we just need to admit we weren’t meant to do. For you… skipping stones is one of them.”
Kailee snorted. “This is now personal to me. I have to prove all you naysayers wrong!” She stuck her tongue out at Bethany and walked away. Bethany laughed and followed after her.
The two girls walked together down the stony path to the lake. Kailee looked over at Bethany and finally asked her a question that had been bothering her.
“Beth… why would the order want to revive Bane?” Kailee said in an almost inaudible breath.
Bethany turned and looked at her with a frown. Better keep these communications in the mind link. Bane is almost an unbeatable darkness. They think they can control him, and he will be on their side. But Bane is simply darkness. He has no sides. He just destroys. Bane would be their demise as well in the end.
I wonder if my grandfather is still in there somewhere…
Bethany sighed and shook her head. I don’t know. I think it is best not to think about him in such a way. It may hurt your resolve.
Where do you think the guys are off and busy at these days? We don’t see them around the castle at all like we did in the beginning.
Don’t worry Kailee. They are almost close to finishing. Bethany looked up and saw the queen standing near the lakeside. She appeared to be talking to someone, but no one was there. Well, no one she could see but she could feel another presence.
Kailee watched the scene in front of her and then focused on the ground. A large tree shadowed over the queen, and she could sense an energy from the shadow. As the two walked closer the queen quit talking and directed her attention up to Kailee.
“Coming down to enjoy the lake breeze?” Edith said with a smile over her face.
Kailee eyed Bethany and then looked at the shadow as they got closer. She glared into the dark pool on the ground and pushed her energy out. Her energy circled around until it gripped onto the shadow.
“What are you?” A voice hissed out from the shadow.

Kailee leaned on the edge of the balcony and looked out over the landscape in boredom. The days have now turned into weeks. They still haven’t sorted out all the traitors though their list was growing. They were just waiting to start taking them down once they were certain they knew who everyone was.
A girl with auburn hair and hazel eyes formed from the darkness.
“Wow… Kailee, you knew she was there?” Edith raised her eyes in shock. “This here is an informant of mine. Her name is Sorsha. I have to keep her identity a secret, but she is trustworthy.”
Sorsha pointed at Kailee. “You don’t understand Edith. She couldn’t have found me. I become one with the shadows. What she just did was impossible.”
Bethany moved slightly more in front. “In the future, I wouldn’t go pointing fingers at my princess. Or you may lose those fingers.”
“I’m sorry. I don’t mean disrespect but… I am in complete shock. It’s impossible. Only someone touched with the light could have possibly…” Sorsha tilted her head to the side. “What type of light child are you? Not even the fairies can unveil me…”
“So, you have brought back information?” Bethany asked, trying to change the subject.
Sorsha looked back at Bethany with a stone expression.
“Sorsha has been looking into something for me. And she found a very disturbing answer.” Edith said and then looked around.
She opened a mass communication link to the four of them. Bane is going to revive now no matter what. It isn’t a matter of if but when. The Order has used sivium and connected their life forces to Bane. Which means they can not be killed unless Bane is killed. But if Bane is killed they will all also perish.
Kailee frowned as she listened to this. She didn’t plan to kill Bane, but she wanted to try to purify him. If she did this Bane would be no more. His existence would change so the Orders link should also shatter then. If Bane becomes the forest spirit the Order would all be killed… right?
Of course, this is horrible news. We don’t know if it is even possible to kill Bane. And if we can’t kill Bane, we can never destroy the order.
Kailee stood there quietly. She would have to take care of Bane. But Trey didn’t want her to disclose to anyone about her. So, she kept quiet. She then turned and studied Sorsha. “What are you exactly?”
“I’m a shadow dragon…” Sorsha said.
“She is a dragon that can meld into shadows.” Edith said with a smile.
“Why is it that you trust her so much?” Bethany looked over at Sorsha and then to Edith.
“Sorsha was part of a rare group of dragons that were all but destroyed when Bane first came into existence. And then the Order continued the purge of her kind. So we are allied through a mutual dislike.” Edith folded her hands together in front of her body.
“Can I… can I see your hand?” Sorsha asked looking at Kailee. Bethany moved in front of Kailee and growled at Sorsha.
“It’s okay Bethany.” Kailee smiled and tapped Bethany on the shoulder. “She’s okay.” She took a step forward and patted Bethany’s arm one more time. She looked back at Sorsha and extended her hand to her.
Sorsha hesitated for a moment and then took Kailee’s hand into her own. As she held onto Kailee’s hand liquid wet crystals began to drip down her cheek. The steady pools didn’t stop and flowed freely.
“I’m sorry Edith. But from here on out I’ll be joining this one’s side.” Sorsha said quietly.
Edith looked at her peculiarly. “Are you saying you won’t hear my requests anymore?”
“From now on… I give my life to her.” Sorsha released Kailee’s hand and wiped her eyes.
“Interesting…” Edith said quietly and stared at Kailee.
“What makes you think I will allow you to stay by her side?” Bethany narrowed her eyes down to Sorsha.
“Because… I believe our interests also align.” Sorsha looked at Bethany and then mind linked her privately. And that is securing the safety of the last unicorn.
