Wing Of Change -
Chapter 15
**
A week had gone by so quickly and taking all the drama with it.
Aria was left to pick up her life where she had left off before the drunken incident. She kept doing everything in her power to avoid any form of contact with Frank as he kept trying to get involved with her in one way or the next but to no avail.
She made it a point to stay buried within the four corners of her apartment just to avoid running into him when she least expected.
Aria even went as far as getting a new phone number. That way she’d stop getting his messages and calls as well.
After a few more weeks of isolation. She decided to look for a new job that would keep her busy as well as pay her bills as soon as possible. She’d rather focus all her energy on doing something productive than continue to sulk over what she couldn’t change.
Aria even got a few job recommendations from her older brother Larry who was working as a regional manager in one of the leading telecom company in the country while she was putting up her résumé for a job opening but she turned it down for obvious reasons.
Her father had done same for her in the past with the Okoji company and she had to let it go eventually. She couldn’t allow history to repeat itself with her brother.
She’d rather seek her own opportunities this time around and see what comes out of it. She bet whatever she is able to replace would be what she really wanted and not what someone else thought she might like.
Even her best friend Lizzy had offered her a partnership with her fashion house but she turned it down as well. She rather not imposed on her friend’s kindness because she felt she was doing it out of pity and she rather not have that. It was better she kept looking out for employment somewhere else.
It has been exactly three months since she left her formal company with the Okoji’s and apart from the fact that a lot has happened in those same three months, she was still very much determined to replace a suitable job for herself come what may._something totally different from her last job.
And right when she least expected, she ran into a job vacancy in a publishing house requesting for an editor with at least six years working experience under his/ her belt.
Aria knew she was no book editor but she sure as hell has a six year working experience and will like to try out with them. And after sending in her application, she got a feedback almost immediately informing her that her name was shortlisted for an interview the following day, much to her surprise.
So waking up that morning of the next day at 6am. She quickly rushed over her morning routine and got dressed before the sun could completely crawl out of its hiding place.
A nervous smile had grazed her face as she stood staring at her reflection upon the vanity fair mirror that hung on the newly painted creme wall.
Dressed in a turtle neck orange cotton blouse and tucked into a black high waisted pencil skirt that was seating right above her knees. Aria completed her outfit with a pair of four inches black heel sandals.
She looked absolutely stunning as she continued to admire herself upon the mirror. Aria looked ready for that day. Editor’s position was hers for the taking and she was going to head over to that interview and prove it.
Picking up her orange purse containing her car keys from the bed. She reached over for the brown envelop containing her credentials as well and she was ready to head out.
She unlocked her front door and had it secured safely with a padlock and turned around swiftly to get on her way only to have her face almost colliding with another who was standing closely behind her.
She quickly jumped away.
“Jesus! What the hell do you think you are doing, scaring me like that” Aria had exclaimed in fright still holding on to her racing heart.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you” Frank had quickly apologized holding up his hands to prove he meant her no harm.
Aria took a deep breath to calm herself and few steps away from him. “It’s just 8am in the morning. Shouldn’t you be at work?”
Aria had question still eyeing the man.
“It’s my company remember? So that means I can pretty much go whenever I want to and besides, I needed to see you” Frank had said the last part with a cheerful smile which only earned him an eye roll from Aria in return.
Taking a closer look at him, she realized he was really dressed for work as he stood in all his seven foot glory and towering over her in his two pieces Italian suit that hugged his arms muscles so perfectly.
Has he been working out lately? Aria had thought to herself in silent because the last time she checked, there was no muscle to show off and now, he seemed to have developed some.
Aria had to forcefully drag her eyes away from his new body asset after recalling why she shouldn’t be drooling all over the man. She stepped all the way back and glared at him instead.
Aria couldn’t believe he came to her house with the lame excuse of wanting to see her.
“So why do you want to see me?” She practically threw the question at him.
“Well for starters, you refused to answer any of my calls or even reply my messages and secondly, I thought you might want to return to the company by now so I came to fetch you myself” Frank had replied with a hint of a smile playing at his lips.
Aria’s mouth was literally hitting the floor after his last sentence. It was now obvious to her that, that man standing before her would never get the fact that she is never going back to work for him ever again through his thick skulls. Especially not now that she has a chance of getting another.
“Well, it seems to me that you didn’t get it the first time did you? Am never going to go back to that company to work for you and finally, you and I have nothing to talk about so excuse me if I don’t replace it useful in returning your calls or messages”
She ended her little speech and turned back to her doorknob and retrieved her keys from the keyhole before attempting to bypass him but he took hold of her elbow and pulled her back.
“Whoa_can you wait a minutes Aria? I understand your bitterness towards me but this is your job we are talking about here. At least let talk things through even if you don’t want to return to the company with me”
Aria gave a short chuckle and shook her head at his clueless act.
“I don’t want to talk to you alright? And don’t even think for a minute that I have whatever bitterness towards you because I don’t. I just want you out of my way”
She pulled her arm away from his grip and began to hurry outside while Frank just hurried after her as well. Hoping to catch up before she gets away.
Aria didnt even make it far to where her car was parked before he blocked her way again.
“Please just hear me out”
“Oh my God! This can’t seriously be happening right now!” Aria had exclaimed, feeling more frustrated.
She took a quick glance at her wrist watch and g***n loudly. She was going to be late for her interview if he continued to get in her way.
Her interview was scheduled for 9am and it was almost 8:30am. She has no time for his theatrics that morning but Frank was still determined to be heard or he wasn’t going to leave.
“Can you promise to think about our situation at least?”
“Okay fine, I will. Now can you move out of the way because am running late”
He took a closer look at her outfit and at the items in her hands and step towards her.
“And Where are you hurrying off to so damn early in the morning?” His eyes searching her face for an answer.
Aria only snort at his question. “I’m off to get a new job obviously”
“A new job?” Frank had asked with raised brows.
“Yes a new job and you are going to make me late for the interview if you keep getting in my way like you are doing right now”
He took a step closer. Much closer than she could allow and causing her to shift to the side but that was not enough to stop his intruding presence from closing in on her still before forcing her to look at him. His brown eyes taking a darker shade of black.
“And I supposed that’s the reason why you turned down my offer to return back to the company without a second thought”
“What?” Her face, that of total disbelief, causing her to step step away from his intimidating and annoyance presence.
The manner at which he said those word at her sounded like he owned her or like she owes him an explanation for her actions and she was done listening to any more of his insensitive talk so she did what she could have only imagined herself doing over the past six years.
She stared back at him with ice cold expression and told him what he needed to hear.
“You know what? Maybe you should go f**k yourself”
And with that last word. She pushed past him with all of her strength and rushed over to her car and got in and quickly drove away after turning on the ignition before Frank could think to react and even stop her.
He sure has some nerves coming at her like he did and expecting her not to fight back.
She kept her eyes focused on the road the moment she made it to the highway and continued to speed along in hope of beating the morning traffic.
The publishing house was over a mile away from her house. Only a miracle can get her there on time because her cashbox was reflecting 8:45am already.
Damn!

Meanwhile…
Frank stood there with at the same spot she has just left him with the envelope containing her credentials in one hand and staring after her, still trying to process what the hell she just said to him before running off.
She even dropped the envelope without realizing she had and to top it all off, he can’t even seem to reach on her cell when he tried calling her.
It kept saying unreachable.
And without further delay. He took the document and got into his own car and drove away. He hoped she calls him or come looking at his office when she realizes it’s missing or someone was definitely going to regret that day and it won’t be him.
