Wing Of Change -
Chapter 28
*
Frank never thought anyone still held the power to make him so empty; yet so filled with rage. He could still feel his hand twitching in anger as he stood staring at the door that was literally slammed against his face.
The thought of what could be going on in there between those two had his fist coiled and ready to smash the door open but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He was way too civil for that sorta drama and beside he’d only make matters worst if not leave it at a point where she would never want to see his shadows ever again.
Frank looked worse than he felt as he couldn’t gather his thought properly. His throat felt extremely dry and he looked labored. She didn’t even listened to him.
What has changed so much, he thought to himself as he head back to his car and repeatedly kicked at his tyres; groaning out loud in frustration.
How long has it been; three weeks? He was right to think something else was going on between those two earlier when he saw them back at the restaurant.
He didn’t realized he was going to be too late until that very moment.
All he wanted was to give her space just as she had wanted and what did he get in return? She freaking slammed the door at his face while declaring another man to be her boyfriend.
Like where the hell did he crawl out from
The word boyfriend left a sour taste in his mouth as he scoff out loud. He admit he wasn’t in the best position to make demands tonight and all he asked for was a listening ear.
He wanted so badly to spill out his gut tonight and sort out all the little misunderstanding between them if not ask her to please be his girlfriend but she has already made her decision even though it wasn’t in his best interest.
In as much as Frank would have loved to believe she was lying to his face; he just couldn’t deny the love in Henry’s eyes. The thought alone had him choking as he let loose his tie before getting into his car.
Kicking the engine back to life, he sped off with no particular destination in mind. Frank needed to get out of there before he is tempted to go back in there and force the door open and maybe punch a hole through that boy stupid boyish face. That will be really satisfying if not put a bandage to his already bruised ego.
His phone kept vibrating in his suit jacket as he reluctantly reached for it. He was in no mood to talk to anyone and especially not his Mom.
Frank has been avoiding her all day if not all week and now was definitely not the best time to engage in a heated conversation with her either as he only looked at the screen before dropping it at the passenger seat.
They was only one person he could talk to at that point. Kelvin would be more than glad to have him whined about his almost close to occurring love life even though he is most likely to tease him about it at the end of the day.
Kelvin was just an hour drive away minus the traffic and all.
**
“Are you saying some guy beat you to asking her out?” Asked Kelvin in a rather confused tone after listening to all Frank had to say some hours later.
“He didn’t beat me to anything Kel, she just said it to spite me because she thinks am bad for her” Frank had replied with a scoff.
“Bad for her? Like how someone suddenly realizes alcohol is bad for them and just decide to stay away from it so they don’t get drunk? Because I don’t understand the kind of bad you are referring to”
Frank only glared at how his friend could easily compare his love life to alcohol even though he was only trying to lighten the mood with his stupid jokes.
If only he was that intoxicating enough to get her drunken in love with him rather than resent his very presence. It would have been a very good comparison indeed.
He gave a long sigh and spoke in a rather weak tone.
“I don’t expect you to understand you know? I don’t even understand anything myself to be honest. She didn’t even listen to me or give me a chance”
“Well there you have it; she has no idea how you feel because she didnt listen to you. So all you need to do now is think of your next move. Do you want to tell her how you feel and get her back or not” Kelvin had asked with raised brows and arms crossing.
“Of course I do want her back but I can’t force her to be with me and besides, she is already with another guy”
“So what if she is with another guy. You are not just another guy, you are the guy that loves her or you won’t be here feeling this way”
“I doubt telling her will change anything. She thinks I hate her even_Sometimes I wonder what planted that awful idea in her head”
“Then tell her.. Make her realize how you feel about her and make sure you do it until she admit she feels the same way too”
With a thoughtful look in his eyes, he reflected back to a few months back when she decided to quit her job at his company.
Now that he was reflecting more on it, Aria had no valid reason other than she wanted to leave. Was it because of something he did or said? He still couldn’t place his hands on exactly what could have gone wrong.
Frank understood that he wasn’t exactly an easy person to work with but he treated her better than he ever did any of his staffs.
Maybe that wasn’t good enough. At least he realized that now.
“You know? Now that i think of everything that happened between us leading to this very moment, i realized am partially to blame for most of them. I gave her the wrong impression all the damn time and now she wants nothing to do with me”
“You give me the wrong sort of impression all the time and I haven’t left you for another guy” Kelvin had joked with a pout.
Frank shot him a weak glare but couldn’t stay mad at his words for more than a few short span of silence.
he knew what Kelvin was driving at. He was barely a friend to him and yet he is his only true friend. He has always being there through everything with him even though he doesn’t get the proper accolade he deserves
“I’m sorry man, for being a bitchy friend some times” his face a mixture of gratitude and a small smirk.
“Well if you put it that way then you really were bitchy but right now is not about me, you need to put your act together and get your girl back. That guy has no business being by her side” he made a disgusted face at the end of his speech.
“How do you get back what was never yours?” He spoke more to himself than to his friend.
“You make it even harder to convince you than forcing a horse to walk on nail you know?”
“We might have kissed around a few times and even had drunk s*x once but that doesn’t mean we were an item or that it meant anything”
“You are even more foolish than I thought. Sorry to say but that’s how you sound right now. I mean a woman will never allow herself be kissed by the same man a few times if she has no feelings for him” Kelvin was had blurted out feeling slightly angered by Frank clueless act.
How could he not read in between the lines when it was written all over her back at the club the first time they had ran into her.
Alcohol only helped them revealed their attraction towards each other and yet it took another guy to make Frank realized it.
Kelvin word began to sank into his skull as he remembered every gesture and how she responded to his every k****s with the same intensity and fierceness as if she craved every damn touch as much as he wanted to give it.
She was the perfect fit of the puzzle he thought he will never be able to replace again. Funny how he never realized it before now.
Talking to Kelvin about her made more sense than he thought it would. He felt more relieved and less enraged then when he had first arrived.
All that is left is the frequent stink in his heart serving as a reminder. He reached for his glass of whiskey and took a slip and winced a little before setting it down.
He realized that his almost love life was just like his glass of whiskey. Filled to the brim a while ago and with just a slip or two_it is empty just like the void in his heart.
“I saw it in her eyes too but it was disguised as hate and I thought it’s her way of converging how she truly felt but I was wrong”
“Well it’s good to admit that you were wrong. It’s a step closer to figuring out your next step. So what is it going to be?”
“Nothing” he replied with a careless shrug.
“What do you mean nothing. I thought you said you wanted her back man” Kelvin didn’t want to believe his ears either as he stood staring at his friend to prove that maybe he has heard wrongly.
“Maybe what she truly need is for me to stay away from her and let her be happy with her new found love”
Kelvin have heard those same words before and he absolutely hates that Frank is repeating them yet again.
Seem love hasn’t hit him hard enough. But one thing he knew for sure was in the fact that,if frank was quitting to try, then it was because he was scared_scared that she might reject him yet again and his heart won’t be able to stand that sort of pain so he rather quit than try.
“Why ask for my advice if you won’t do anything about it”
“I don’t know okay? Am not even sure she will want anything to do with me no matter what I tell her”
“You can crash here tonight if you want and tomorrow we can talk more about the decision you want to make because it’s obvious you have not been listening to a damn thing I have said all night” Replied Kelvin in total frustration as he made his way across the living room towards his bedroom.
It was passed eleven already and he needed to sleep in other to wake up early for work the next day and he wasn’t in the mood to worry about Frank driving home in that state either. He can always make himself at home in the guest room.
“So you can tease me about it in the morning? No thanks”
Frank was up on his feet before Kelvin could convince him to stay. He is heart broken and not drunk so he can make it home just fine.
“Are you sure you don’t want to sleep here?”
“Thanks for the glass of whiskey and for the offer as well but I rather be home crying into my pillow where no one can hear me” he gave a wide grin
“Alright. Call me when you get home safe and sound”
He gave him a shoulder hug and left through the door.
