Wing Of Change
Chapter 29

Aria laid in bed that night but couldn’t sleep a wink. Her mind was reeling with thought of Frank and what he might have come to say to her.

He looked pretty desperate and even agitated at the sight of another man at her door step but she was too pissed to be moved by his reaction or give him a listening ear not to mention worrying about how that would make him feel.

It was not like they were in a relationship but still she felt weird about the whole encounter earlier.

The fact that he thought she would let him in anytime he shows up claiming he has something to say to her just to get her attention and maybe let him in again annoys her to no end.

Aria was well aware of his antics. If he was at her door steps and acting like he owned her then it could be because he needed her for one thing or the next.

Because even though she has left his company months ago, it still felt like nothing has changed with him dragging her around and showing up at her house like he freaking calls the shot around there.

Sighing deeply in frustration, she heard the beep sound going off in her phone before she turned towards her lamp stand and grabbed the phone before wiping through the screen.

She found a text from Henry asking if she was okay.

Aria couldn’t help but smile at his kind gesture. He was so sweet and thoughtful. She even forgot he got her number earlier just in case she needed rescuing from the crazy man at her door step if he decides to come back.

She quickly typed a reply assuring him that she was okay and was about to doze and even wished him a good night before setting her phone right back where she has picked it from.

Aria was grateful Henry understood her predicament and helped her out without asking too much question and When she told him she needed to be alone, he obliged her still. He wasn’t just the good neighbor but also close to being the perfect friend.

Sometimes, she is tempted to refer to him as her angel of fate.

Fate was when he showed up at the time he did. Filled with charisma and a long list of food to try out.

Sometimes, he made her feel as though she was sixteen again with the desire to go along with whatever he suggested for fun and in turned, she has found that_most times when we allow the heart lead, it can lead us to a lot of laughter and maybe friendship.

The thought of Henry filled her mind and drowned out that of Frank as she smiled at the memory of how he stood up to Frank earlier and even pretended he was her boyfriend. The look in Frank’s eyes almost had her snorting with laughter.

Each day went by so quickly with no sign of Frank at her door step again and to be honest, she sorta missed his annoying presence but she can’t complain about the peace and quiet either as she went about her daily routine.

That morning started like every other day with her rushing through her front door and willing her hand to move faster as she was practically running late for work. She dashed toward her car and place her handbag at the passenger seat before turning on the ignition over and over again_ instead of the car roaring into life as expected, it just coughed instead and kept quiet.

Frustrated at the thought of her car breaking down so early in the morning, she continued to pump the gas while turning on the ignition again but instead of coughing again or maybe coming on as she has prayed, it made no sound at all causing her to practically bang her head on her steering.

“Everything okay?”

Her head snapped at the direction the voice had come from and there he was smiling at her with that charming smile of his.

Henry was truly a God sent.

“My baby has gone silent on me and I can’t seem to get it to respond” she responded slightly pouting at him.

“Have you checked the fuel?”

Aria didn’t have to check to know it’s full because she had it filled on her way home yesterday so it can’t be that.

“I had it filled yesterday on my way home” she replied.

“Maybe it’s your battery” he reasoned coming around to take a look.

He opened the Burnet and pulled a few string here and there before confirming his earlier theory.

“I’m afraid your car battery has run down. Seemed you didn’t completely turned it off yesterday”

She was on the phone with her mom when she got home yesterday and must have forgotten to do it.

“Now what do I do?” Anxiety clearly taking over.

“It’s okay Aria_I can be your chauffeur for today since we are both running late” he assured her with a smile as he firmly closed the Burnett before walking over to where his vehicle was parked.

She quickly grab her bag and hurried after him and settled into the front seat.

“Thank you so much Henry. You are a life saver”

He chuckled at her statement before replying..

“I save lives for a living remember?”

“How can I forget?” With a grin.

He dropped her off at her office before waving her goodbye.

The day strolled by quicker than she had anticipated and Aria found herself waving down a taxi before a familiar Camry spider came into view and stopped right in front of her before sticking his head through the window.

Her lips coiled into a little smile as she shook her head in a manner that convey just how unbelievable she was at the sight before her.

“What are you doing here?” She asked still smiling at her companion.

“I told you I was going to be your chauffeur for the day didn’t I?” Henry had replied with a wide grin before narrowing his eyes into slit.

Now shaking her head a bit, she stepped towards the passenger side.

“Well I didn’t think you were serious though but am glad you just saved me another five hundred bulk worth of cash that I would have spent on taxi just to get home”

“Well you don’t get to thank me just yet because am not done saving you for today” he replied with a knowing glance.

“How do you mean?” Sounding a bit skeptical as her eyes darted at him and back on the road.

“I was hoping we could grab a bite at this new restaurant I bumped into around a few blocks to our building if you don’t mind. I heard they have some native dishes I will like to try out”

“So you are inviting me out to dinner? Or to watch you eat” With a raised brow

“Both actually because I eat better when you are around” he said with a thoughtful gaze.

“Is that so?”

“Uhm mmm” with a nod.

The place was just as he has described on their way there. Bubbling with hungry people ready to grab a bite as they settled into their seat.

“It’s surprising to know that i have lived in this area for years and I still don’t know this place exist until now”

“I’m sorry to spell it out to you but your life must have been one boring routine before I barged into it” chuckling at the face expression Aria was making at his statement.

“My life wasn’t exactly boring because I had tons of things keeping me busy” she defended.

“Things like?” Daring her to mention at least one that didn’t start with office and ended with work.

“Well maybe you were right. My routine wasn’t exactly as mind blowing as compared to yours but it was okay” She said shrugging.

“I’m glad we are changing that because I don’t do okay and besides you are way too pretty and vibrant to be doing okay” he said pointing his index at her with a serious expression.

Her face light up at his comment in an instant. Did she heard correctly or he just called her pretty. Her cheek began to expand until a full blown smile was sprayed across it.

“You don’t say?”

He got interrupted by the waitress before he could reply as their plate of egusi soup and pounded yam was placed before them.

“This look yummy Aria_ better dig in before it get cold”

Aria thought she couldn’t move a muscle after she was done eating. She practically ate her way through a whole bowl of pounded yam which has never happened before. She was more of an okay eater than a heavy one but just as Henry had said earlier; some things needs to change starting with the way she ate.

“I didn’t think I was going to finish that but thanks to your alluring present that got me biting and clicking my plate clean” he exaggerated.

“Sounds like i forced you when you put it that way you know?”

“Okay okay..you are right. I just have a huge appetite to contend with that’s all”

“I’m glad tomorrow is weekend and I won’t have to worry about struggling to get up in the morning”

Henry walked her over to her door step and bid her good night with a k**s across her cheek
