Wing Of Change -
Chapter 58
Aria woke up the next morning with a split headache as she grudgingly rubbed her eyes and reached for her glasses. She couldnt recall how she got to bed last night but she was grateful she woke up in it and not under a moving truck because her bones sure feels like she has been hit by one.
Her headache was getting stronger by each passing second as she kept trying to recall any detail from the previous day without any luck.
The last thing she remembered was someone hovering over her followed with a loud noise in the background.
Her throat felt dry as she gave a loud yawn and a full stretch before she finally climbed out of bed. She was on her way to the bathroom when she heard noises coming from her kitchen.
Aria took a d-turn and walked right back towards the kitchen. She stood with wide eyes as she stared at the unfamiliar figure moving around in her kitchen.
She adjusted her glasses and took another hesitant step before stopping a few centimeters away from the kitchen counter. Her mouth half open.
Her kitchen occupant who was still very much oblivious to her presence did pour himself a cup of coffee and had a quick slip from it before turning around only to jerk back in shock.
“Whoa! I didn’t see you there”
“Hen_henry?” She barely uttered the name in disbelief as she covered the remaining distance and stood staring at him as if he was a mirage and was most likely to disappear soon.
When he simply shrugged and smiled widely at her instead of vanishing into thin air, she felt her heart racing with all the wrong reasons.
“What_ what are you doing in my kitchen” she half yelled and asked in shock.
“Hey!_look who is finally back to her senses” his tone was light and playful as he took another sip before throwing her another smile.
Aria wasn’t in the least swayed as she stood dead in her track with one hand resting against her forehead and the other around her waist.
She kept pacing around_not sure if she was fully awake or still dreaming because the thought of having that man in her kitchen so darn early in the morning and talking to her so causally as if something was going on between them was freaking the heck out of her that very instant.
Like she can’t even think straight.
She abruptly came to a stop when a single thought crossed her mind.
Wait!
Nothing is going on between them right?.
In order not to drive herself crazy; she took a deep breathe to calm her nerves a few times while Henry on the other hand just kept sipping his tea with a smug grin plastered on his face.
She’d took a step back after a while to really observe herself and after realizing that everything was in perfect order and no weird pain or tingling of any sort was being felt from down down below_She finally let the breath she didn’t realized she was holding out as both of her shoulders slumped back to normal.
Aria was pretty much still dressed in her palette trouser and blue T-shirt from last night and not suddenly in a tiny transparent sequence nightie.
Phew!
Henry had both arms crossed at this point with furrowed eyebrows. He seemed really intrigued just watching her every move as he leaned against the kitchen counter.
He knew half of the reason she was so distraughtly creepy was because of him but it was amusing seeing her in that manner.
“How_how did you get in?” Her head snapped at his direction yet again with eyes narrowed into slit which only caught him off guard as he straightened up a bit and even cleared his throat.
“That’s because I didn’t get out” he explained calmly.
“How do you mean_you didn’t get out?”
Henry walked around the kitchen counter and hand her a cup of coffee but she turned it down with the shake of her head.
“More for me then” placing it back on the counter and taking a sip from his own.
“You haven’t told me how you couldn’t get out Henry” she pry further trailing him for answers.
Aria was pretty much going out of her mind just thinking of the possible answers to the questions in her head.
Henry let a small laugh escape his parted lips as he only shook his head at her demeanor. He seem too relax and at home for Aria’s peace of mind.
“Let just say_I was locked in after I refused to follow a certain someone’s demand”
“Who? And what demand”
Henry only looked at the space between them before tipping his coffee cup at her direction with a knowing smile.
“Me?_ what was it? What was the demand? Tell me”
“You don’t remember?” He asked faking annoyance with a wide expression.
“Forget it_ so you are telling me that you slept here till this morning?”
“Of course i slept here last night” he answered quite frankly before reaching for the second cup of coffee.
“What happened last night? I mean where did you sleep”
Aria was in a really bad shape just thinking of the worst case scenario regardless of everything he had told her.
She began to rub circle around her forehead in an attempt to ease the tension growing in the pit of her stomach.
“I slept in the sofa in case you were wondering” he answered playfully with the wave of the hand.
Aria let out a breath of relief as she settled on the stool beside the kitchen counter.
“I can’t remember anything. My head ache really bad”
“Here_have some painkillers, it will help with the throbbing ache”
Aria only stared at the two white pills staring at her but decline as she got back up and stalked off towards her fridge.
“Do you walk around with painkillers in your pocket or you knew this was going to happen” she asked.
“None of the above ma’am. I just happens to replace them in your drawer last night” he jested playfully.
“Drawer?” Her head snapped at his direction.
“You went searching for them and had them spilling over”
Aria only pulled the fridge door open and grab a bottle water.
“I will drink water instead”
“That’s why I offered you coffee earlier” he reminded her.
“No can do Henry. I really don’t know what happened to me yesterday so i need to clear my head not dampen or drug myself up with more painkillers”
She gulp down the bottle of water within minutes before replacing the cap with a sigh.
“How come I can’t remember anything, I don’t even know what happened. It’s like I just completely went bunkus”
“I was also wondering the exact same thing. What happened to you yesterday was kinda strange you know?” Henry uttered.
“You are the doctor here. Maybe you should tell me. Do you think am starting to go crazy? Because I feel just fine”
“Calm down. I don’t think it’s anything serious because you seem fit and sure has a pretty sound mind”
“Then what is it?”
“Maybe I can run some test to know what’s up but for now_I think i should head back to my apartment and shower and head for work before someone sees us”
“Yeah you really should”
She turned around and began searching for her phone but saw nothing before turning back to Henry.
“Did you see my phone? Cos I can’t replace it”
“I think it’s still in the dinning where you left it”
**
Having twenty missed calls from Frank would have been abnormal but realizing how much she has lost track of time, she could only imagine how worried Frank must be feeling and just about anyone who haven’t heard from her since.
She thought of calling him back just about immediately and explaining what she thought had happened but realized Henry was still locking around and has to leave so she quickly retrieved the key and unlocked the door while she stood aside to let him through.
“I’m sorry for what happened. It won’t happen again” she apologized all of a sudden stopping him from walking past her.
Henry only shrugged in amusement.
“Nothing to apologized for ma’am. I shouldn’t have let you drink in the first place”
She shot Henry a little smile.
“Thanks for understanding”
Henry took a step towards the door and paused before stepping back a little.
Someone seemed to be standing in his way.
“Hey man” he chirped in an unsure manner.
His voice seemed panic as he stared back at the person standing in his way.
Aria who was curious as to why he has suddenly gone stiff decided to ask him what was going on until her eyes settled on the last person she was expecting that morning.
“Frank”
“Am I interrupting something?”
Frank was dressed in his usual office attire with both his hands tucked away as his eyes traveled between Henry who looked like he had a sleepless night in hell and Aria who wasn’t looking any better with her hair sticking out towards every known direction at the moment.
“Ehm, not really” Aria had answered simply.
“I will leave you two now, do have a nice day” Henry spoke to no one in particular as he excused himself and walked past Frank by the door_heading to his apartment.
