Wing Of Change
Chapter 59

“Can you explain to me what that guy was doing at your apartment so damn early in morning? And please for the love of God_ do not lie to me. I want the absolute truth”

Frank had demanded while staring at her straight in the face. His face had no expression making it more difficult for her to read. But one thing was certain, Frank was enrage. His little finger hasnt stop twitching since he pulled them out of his pocket.

To think that she couldn’t remember a thing makes her even nervous as she stood under his questioning gaze.

Squaring her shoulder a bit, she took a deep breathe as she looked up at him and hoping with all her heart that he could see the truth in her eyes and believe her words.

“Henry had to stay here last night because i had a crisis even though I can’t remember half of it.” she explained calmly taking a deep breath to calm her racing heart.

“You trust him that much that you rather let him stay the night with you rather than calling me?” His voice a cry of disbelief.

“I don’t know what happened because I wasn’t in my right senses to call or speak to anyone. You have to believe me dear”

“You know how much I dislike that guy being around you_the fact that he even slept here last night is enough reason for me not to believe you” he snapped which only startled her.

“You have to believe me! Even though he did spend the night here_ nothing happened” she half yelled and pleaded.

Frank didn’t seemed like he believed her. Even if he did, he didn’t show it. He seem more angry than listening to her desperate plea for him to believe her.

“How can you be so sure when you don’t even remember what happened?” Frank looked like he has just being punch in the gut.

“Apart from the fact that he slept over there in the cushion? I know my body enough to know when something is wrong with it even if I don’t remember what happened”

Frank only took a step closer as he stood towering over her.

“What exactly happened that you don’t remember. Where you drunk?”

His gaze rampage over her petite figure in search of anything that proves that he could be right before settling on her lips.

Her lips looked awfully dry even though she keep wetting it with her tongue. She was obviously nervous._he noted dryly.

“I had only a glass of wine and I don’t think it was alcoholic either but after that I went crazy and that’s all I remembered”

Her eyes held his for a moment before they darted away.

Aria had no idea what could be running through his mind as he stood staring at her without giving away his thought.

“Why did you keep letting that guy into this place time after time with the lame excuse of being a bloody good neighbor? you even let him spend the night here. How do you expect me to believe nothing happened when you obviously don’t remember a thing”

“Yes I don’t remember a thing but am sure nothing happened”

How can she prove to him beyond doubt that nothing happened because obviously_nothing freaking happened for crying out loud.

“How can you be so sure hmm? You slept with me without even knowing it was me. How do you know you haven’t done same with that gu_”

The last statement was smack off his lips as Aria’s right palm flew right across his cheek in an instant.

“I won’t let you insult me because of what happened between us that night. I have said it before and I will say it again. Nothing happened between us. Absolutely nothing”

The awful silence that fell after that slap was deafening as it had both Aria and Frank in a staring contest.

Aria gaze was that of disbelief and regret as tears began to swell in her eyes. Never in her wildest imagination has she raised her hand at anyone and much less to Frank.

How did things escalate so fast?

She was beyond hurt by his words but that wasn’t enough reason to lost her composure and she knew it.

Frank who was too shock for words only blink a few times before flexing his jaw muscle as low chuckles erupt from his lips.

“You know what? I came here because i was worried sick about you after failing to check on you as planned and just wanted to be sure you were okay and now, am more than sure you are fine so do have a nice day”

He strode towards the door and halted at Aria’s word.

“Wait!_” walking towards him

“I’m sorry for raising my hand at you, I never should have let my anger cloud my sense of reasoning but you have to believe me. Nothing happened between us” she pleaded yet again with the last ounce of strength left in her.

His lips parted but no word it out so instead he swallowed back whatever he wanted to say and just slipped right through the door leaving her to stare after him and wondering what the heck just happened.

**

Twenty minutes later_after Frank had walked out the door. Aria was still mounted by the door way like a dejected soul that has been sent away from hell. She couldn’t get her feet to move from where she stood, staring into nothing.

She wasn’t crying_she was just completely lost in her own messy thought.

Frank didn’t believe her.

That thought alone is enough to make her chest heavy with sadness and her heart racing in a very unhealthy way_ everything hurt differently as realization begin to wash over her.

She felt rather confused and angry at herself than just the sadness threatening to overwhelm her. How in the world could she even think for a second that Frank would believe her when she can’t even remember what the hell happened.

It’s true she keep letting the guy into her apartment even though he didn’t approve of the guy’s presence around her. She still couldn’t bring herself to turn him away when all he has ever done is be nice to her.

She has no reason to be hostile towards him. Actually Henry has been there for her and even offered his shoulders for her to lean on when she felt Frank was breaking her heart..

She feels terrible knowing that she has no way of proving to Frank that nothing happened between them. Heck_she doesn’t even know where to start explaining in order to convince him otherwise.

Apart from herself, the only one who knows the truth is Henry!

Henry!

A thought suddenly crossed her mind as she struggled back on her feet. Henry is her only help. Even if she has to drag him all the way to Frank’s office, she would. He need to tell Frank that nothing happened.

He’d believe her by then.

She needs to talk to him before he leaves for work as she quickly unlocked the door and hurried outside only to collide with the same Henry by her door step

“Wow_are you okay?” Holding her with both hands before steadying her back on her feet

“No Henry, I was coming to get you”

“Why? What happened. I was on my way to your apartment. I think I left my phone here”

“I will get it for you but please I need you to help me. You have to help me” she pleaded holding on to him in utter desperation.

“Okay okay I will. Just calm down and tell me what happened. You look frightened”

“Frank! You have to help me talk to him. He doesn’t believe me” she explained.

Aria noticed a quick flash of emotion in Henry’s eyes before it was quickly replaced with a sympathetic look. Maybe she was asking for too much at that very moment but she has no other choice than to involve him by asking for his help.

Henry is the only one that can help clear Frank’s doubt. She was sure of it.

Henry only stood in shock without saying a word while he stared at Aria as if she has completely lost her mind before he took an inch closer and reached for both her hands and squeezed gently at them.

“Just calm down Aria. Everything is okay” he assured her trying to calm her down but Aria couldn’t keep calm as she pulled her hands away from his grip and stepped an inch away from him.

Her expression was that of utter disbelief as she stared back at Henry who looked surprised at her own sudden reaction to his words of comfort.

“Did I say something wrong?”

“Nothing is okay Henry. My boyfriend doesn’t believe me because obviously, he thinks something happened between us last night. How the hell is that okay huh?”

Realization finally hit him as he sighed in defeat and just nodded his head in apprehension before looking back at her.

“Well then I guess it’s also my fault if you put it that way. I mean_i can go talk to him and explain what happened if that will make things right.”

Aria looked a little bit lost for word at his statement. She didn’t realized he would accept so easily without giving it a second thought.

“You would?” She asked again.

“Of course! I mean why not? Just give me his address and I will go meet him”

“Thank you so much for doing this for me Henry. I owe you” she replied happily. Her eyes sparking with new hope as she was all smiles at that moment.

“Don’t mention” he replied with a careless shrug.

She held his gaze for a brief second before she quickly dashed into her apartment and rushed out with Frank’s address written in a piece of paper after some minutes.

“Here you are”

Aria had handed it to him alongside his cellphone.

Henry quickly browsed through the piece of paper with a slight frown grazing his forehead before placing it into his breast pocket.

Aria had both hands clamps in front of her as she continued to appreciate Henry.

“Thank you so much for doing this Henry. You have no idea how much this means to me”

“I’m just glad to help” he said simply…”My shift at the hospital is about to begin so I better run. I will see you later?”

“Okay”
