Wing Of Change -
Chapter 87
“What do you mean Sandra is in there with the police” Kelvin had asked with a raised brow.
Frank had called him on his way to the station to meet up and he showed up as soon as he could but felt his friend was being absurd when he mentioned his ex girlfriend was also in police custody.
“The police took her in for questioning earlier in the day” he explained calmly not paying attention to the worried look on his friend’s face.
“Please tell me you are kidding!” He questioned with furrowed eyebrow.
“No am not. The police thought maybe she knows something and went after her”
He came to an abrupt stop__ causing Frank who was walking ahead of him to halt in his next step before turning around to face him.
“What is it?” Frank had asked not sure why his friend was reacting that way to something he said.
“Are you telling me the police arrested her based on suspicion?”
Frank answered with a shrug after coming short with a much reasonable answer.
“C’mon man. I know you are desperate to replace Aria but you can’t keep getting people arrested for all that’s worth”
A considerable amount of silence stretched between them in that few second of neither of them saying a single word.
The slight twitch of his jaw muscle was a clear indication on how annoyed he was at his friend’s statement. It was bad enough that he had to carry that guilt in his heart that says he could be wrong. And having to lie to his son about the whereabout of his mother is another thing he has had to deal with.
Kelvin doesn’t have to make him any more guiltier than he already was but he really can’t leave any stone unturned until he replaces his wife and get her home safely even if it means being unfair to everyone else.
His left hand went up to his face and wiped across it momentarily before low manic chuckles began to erupt from his lips.
Anyone could see the pain beneath the laughter and kelvin almost regretted saying those words out loud.
“Listen man, I didn’t mean to say it that___”
“__Yes you did” Frank had interjected and thereby cutting him off.
“And for that reason, you will have to tell me how to replace her_because if you can not do that then you have no right to judge me and I mean no f*****g right. You don’t know what it feels like to loose someone who means everything to you and when I said everything? I mean even the very air you breathe and as if that’s not enough, you two are also set to welcome your baby in exactly three months. So yeah; You don’t get to stand there and judge me because you have no single clue on how that feels”
Kelvin took a deep breathe to calm his own nerve before walking over to where he stood and placed a gentle hand against his shoulder. “I may not know how all of that feels but that doesn’t mean am less of a human. I care about you and as much as Aria too and you know it. All am saying is just for you to calm down a bit on the random arrest and start thinking logically for a start”
Frank shrugged his hands off and took another step away from him.
“Are you by any chance questioning my sanity?because I can also have you arrested just to prove a point” He questioned. Brow hitched in annoyance.
“I’m just saying maybe we are looking at this whole thing in a wrong way. And getting the wrong people. From what I have read in some of these crime books__the best place to start an investigation is at the crime scene. Someone got into her room while pretending to be a nurse. The question here should be, how did she replace her room number or even the hospital she got admitted into. It’s either the person has an informant or has direct access to the hospital”
Frank was too livid to listen to whatever point his friend was trying to make at that point not to mentioned the fact that the police already looked into that aspect and found nothing.
And the only person he had in mind has already been confronted in which he clearly denied. What else can he do now other than to follow the lead they have going on.
“I have a lot on my mind to start playing detective Kelvin and tonight is really not a good one for me. If you have ideas you want to share with the police then we better go inside and start talking”
Frank turned around and began to walk inside. Not bothering to look back even once. Kelvin later caught up with him at the counter talking to the officer on duty.
“My name is Frank Okoji and this is my friend Kelvin. We are here in connection to the abduction of my wife_Mrs Aria Davis okoji and I will like to see inspector sule”
While he was still talking to the officer, inspector Sule was seen walking out from the opposite direction with a folder in one hand and decided to walk towards them when he saw the two men at the counter.
“Hello sir. We have been expecting you” he uttered and stretch forth his hand for a handshake.
Frank took hold of his outstretched hand in a firm handshake before letting go.
“Sorry I couldn’t come any sooner. But am here now and I will like to know what is the progress and this is my friend Kelvin”
“Hello” said Kelvin with a smile.
“You are welcome. Please come right this way to my office”
He led them into a much comfortable room and offered them a seat before he began explaining.
“The lady in there has been really stubborn and kept maintaining the fact that she has no hands in the disappearance of your wife and am afraid we can’t keep her here any longer than we already have. We don’t even have any evidence to back up our claims” he explained with a hint of regret.
Kelvin had a ‘I told you so’ kind of expression on his face at the officer’s statement but dared not to say whatever he was thinking out loud.
Frank knew the officer had a point but couldn’t help but insist on speaking with her himself maybe he would be able to convince her somehow.
“Can I go in and speak with her at least once? Maybe try to persuade her a little bit more”
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible” officer Sule had turned down the request just about immediately.
“C’mon officer. Just a few minutes is all he is asking for. I mean you should at least give him a chance” Kelvin had pleaded on his behalf.
The officer was quiet for a moment. Probably reconsidering his request before giving in. “I can only give you thirty minutes even though it’s against protocol but you have to follow my instruction”
“I will do anything”
“I will let you see her but no physical contact or you are out” he warned strictly.
“Okay I accept” Frank had readily agreed.
“Then follow me.” He got up and began to walk towards the door and stopped midway and turned back to Kelvin who was tagging along. “You stay here”
“Okay officer” shrugging.
