Wing Of Change -
Chapter 95
Frank had arrived with Aria back at the hospital some minutes later and refused to leave her side even for a second as he was mounted protectively by the door of the theatre.
Both his mother and friends stood beside him in silent. No one was willing to say any word out loud as their head was hanging low in silent prayers for everything to turn out well.
They had endured so much during this few days and couldn’t bear to face any more than they already had been made to go through.
“She will be alright man” Kelvin had assured him with a gentle tap to his already tense shoulders.
Frank only gave a small nod in acknowledgement. Probably too overwhelmed to say anything as he continued to glance ahead.
Lizzy stood by the far left beside Frank’s mother with tense shoulders. She could barely look Frank in the eyes when she was let in as well. Her guilt was eating away at her grief.
Lizzy couldn’t believe she had played a part in her friend’s misfortune all along without even realizing it.
After she was told by Kelvin, she could only break down in tears for being such a easy prey.
To even think that she had a crush on someone like Henry only cause her stomach to stir in an uncomfortable way.
Even though the doctor had instructed that they wait at the reception. Frank couldn’t replace the courage to leave not after what happened the last time that she was stolen right under their noses. He wasn’t about to risk it even though Henry had already been arrested.
Frank would always replace himself leaping forward, anytime someone does as much as to push through that door. His patience was running thin just waiting around and praying for Aria and the baby to be okay.
After a moment of seating down, he decided to stand back up and began to pace around and came to a stop when the door flew open with the doctor rushing through with a paper in hand.
Everyone rushed to meet him.
“Doctor, how is my wife” Frank had asked in panic.
“Calm down sir. Your wife is fine but very weak at the moment. She went through a lot and am afraid she won’t be able to pull through on her own” the doctor had explained calmly.
“What does that mean doctor” Kelvin had asked next when Frank couldn’t replace his words.
“What that means is that she won’t be able to deliver on her own due to how weak she already is”
The doctor looked to Frank for further questioning and when none came forth, he continued.
“I need you to grant me permission to carry out a c-section on her in order to save them both”
“Where do I need to sign?”
Frank didn’t have to be told twice before he grab hold of the paper and pen down his signature and handed it back.
The doctor nodded at the paper but turned back at him with a raised brow. “Are you aware your wife’s labour was induced prematurely? and for that reason your child will be born prematurely as well”
Frank knew Henry had done something to her but he didn’t realized he went that far.
“Please save them both” he pleaded as he grab hold of the doctor’s hand in his.
The doctor was startled but nodded in utter understanding.
“I will do my best sir. You can be rest assured”
“Thank you”
Frank was left standing there with hitched breath and racing heart. He felt his mother’s touch and turned to look at her.
“Have Faith my son. She is a strong one and I know she knows you need her”
“I hope so mom! Because I dont think I will be able to live through it if anything were to happen to her” Frank had broken down in tears not knowing how else to react to the fears eating away at his heart.
**
Second stretches into minutes and then hours unending without news from the doctor or the nurses that kept rushing in and out without even saying a word.
Frank’s sat with outstretched legs with his head thrown back against the head rest of the iron chair at the reception. His mom had insisted they seat over there after another minute of waiting and he had to oblige.
Left to him, he won’t mind standing all night but his already aged mother needed a break and so does his friends and none of them was willing to leave him behind.
The flat TV hanging on the wall was playing but he wasn’t paying attention. His throat felt dry and the aches in his shoulders and joints was starting to get to him but none of that could compare to the one in his heart.
If Kelvin hadn’t showed up with the police right when he did. Henry would have gotten away with his plans and what’s worst, he would have watched it all unfold while still tie to a chair.
He couldn’t even protect his family. He thought with tears swelling in his eyes. Everything he had worked for would have been meaningless without the both of them in it.
He sprung up on his feet when he heard the doctor calling for him at last. The doctor had a causal look on his face so he couldn’t decipher what could be running through his mind.
“Doctor!” He breath.
“Congratulations Mr Okoji. It’s a baby girl” the doctor had announced with a wide grin.
Frank didn’t realized he was crying until his vision was completely clouded and he sniffed back a tear with a smile of his own.
He felt happy and relieved.
Frank felt like a new being. This must be how it felt like to be part of the process and being told of the life changing news of being a father.
This was something he wasn’t privileged to experience when Daniel was born and now he has been given another chance. A chance that has left him totally overwhelmed.
It’s a baby girl! He thought with a loopsided smile as he turned to face his mom and then his friends_wondering if they heard the doctor as well.
“Congratulations man”
Kelvin was the first to speak before pulling him into a tight embrace then followed by his mother and then Lizzy who wasn’t sure if giving him a hug was most appropriate or a pat on the shoulder due to how guilty she was feeling.
Frank came to a pause after a while and looked over to replace the doctor still waiting. He couldnt help but feel as though the doctor still had more to tell him because he hasn’t mentioned Aria which only made his heart to race in an uncomfortable manner.
“Doctor? Where is my wife?”
“I’m afraid she won’t be joining us soon”
“Meaning?” The word barely slipping out of his mouth.
“I’m truly sorry to say this because we did our best to arrest the situation and stabilize her as much as we could but your wife is in a partial coma at this point and has been transfered to the ICU” the doctor had explained ever so calmly.
Frank felt his already racing heart coming to an abrupt stop as each word registered in his mind ever so slowly and leaving him more vulnerable than ever.
His world was spinning in and out of focus as he was suddenly struggling to breath.
This wasn’t happening!
Did he hear correctly or the doctor was messing with him.
