Falco could only react in one way when he saw his alpha on the ground with b***d gushing from his neck, turn into a huge sand-coloured wolf, grab the attacking wolf by the back, tearing the skin in the process, and throw him with all his might against the opposite wall. He didn’t care who it was, he didn’t care about the consequences, he only knew that his alpha had been assaulted and that was unforgivable.

After a loud thud against the furniture on the wall and a squeal of pain, Falco saw the omega wolf struggle to his feet, but stand up firmly. His mouth was bubbling and his eyes were a potent carmine colour with no pupil. He was out of control, he was shaking his head looking for the threat, guided by the slight instinct that remained latent in him, he was totally dominated by his wild side and that was dangerous.

He stepped back quickly as two wolves dragged Dante out and closed the door before he felt the animal’s body crash hard against the wood.

A second of silence. He lashed out again trying to break the door, which was made of mahogany, so he couldn’t get out and only hurt himself.

He felt it hit three more times until he felt a jagged howl that shook him. What was in there was not simply the wounded boy they had rescued, it was a vengeance-seeking, bloodthirsty animal.

He passed the bolt making sure it was securely locked and knelt beside his alpha with a slight tremble expecting the worst.

Dante was anything but weak, but the bite had been accurate, severing crucial veins, nerves and arteries. The b***d had stopped gushing wildly, yet one of the wolves pressed a part of his own torn shirt over the wound, preventing further bleeding. The other had surely gone to fetch the doctor. Everyone in the pack was prepared for any situation and knew how to react.

Falco looked at his alpha’s pale face and frown. It had all happened so fast. They had barely turned and the teeth were already there, in the jugular. He clenched his fists. Was this how they repaid him, after all they’d done? Rage stirred inside him.

In the distance he heard a pair of feet running towards them. He sniffed the air, bad time for them to be there. Fallen and Axel ran in the direction of where the piercing howl was coming from. They had left Sasha with Laira, and Matias who knew where, he was a world apart and they had never gotten along well enough to play happy family now.

The scene they encountered when they stopped a few metres away made them recoil.

-What happened? Axel grabbed his older brother’s arm.

-What happened?” Falco tried to take a deep breath, gritting his teeth so hard they hurt, “That their so-called mother just attacked our alpha,” rage welled up from every pore of his body.

He stood up and approached them. His six-foot-two height may have rivalled Fallen’s, but 300 years of accumulated experience, 120 of it second-in-command, made the two pups tremble. He stopped in front of them, clutching the edge of his trousers so as not to get his hands in the wrong place and do something he would regret later.

Two wolves from the manor guard appeared at the sound of the commotion and kept their distance from the trio, though approaching the alpha to get a sense of his situation. Falco was a reasonable beta, wise, polite, but more violent than his superior when the situation warranted.

Another knock on the door and the wood of the frame splintered, drawing everyone’s attention.

-Axel ignored the intimidating wolf before him and walked towards the door.

-Falco bared his teeth. “Not another step,” he threatened.

-Why can’t we see our mother, she’s in there isn’t she? Did Dante try to do something to her?” questioned Fallen raising his voice as his body was lifted and pinned against the wall, his feet off the ground and a claw around his neck.

Axel lunged at the wolf to defend his familiar, but he was grabbed from behind and kneeled on the ground as a hand pinned his head to the hard floor.

-The only reason I haven’t killed that wolf in there is because my alpha wants it for his interests; because it’s intolerable to me that anyone would touch a single hair on his head, so you’d better go back to your room and stay very still, if you don’t want to be the ones to take the place. I’ve got too many problems, to deal with other people’s puppies running all over the mission, and not a word about what happened here,” he brought his face close to Fallen who was frowning in annoyance, but couldn’t defend himself as he was almost choking, “Or I’ll tear out each of your tongues,” he released him and threw him next to his brother.

Another blow on the door and the wall suffered. The omega was hitting harder and harder. Dante’s b***d was inside his system, making him strong, but at this rate and in the actual condition of his body he wouldn’t last long. The beta didn’t really care. His interest was only in the wolf that was struggling, slowly regenerating the wound in his neck.

-You two,” he gestured to the newly arrived guards, “Take them away and lock them up, they will only be limited to food. Post guards at each of their gates and if I replace out they got out or escaped they will suffer consequences,” he ordered angrily.

The wolves nodded and dragged away a puppy and a wolf cub who turned and refused to walk, cursing. Edgar came running up with bated breath and dropped to the ground, examining the wound quickly.

-Quickly, carry him to his quarters,” the one who had fetched him, plus the one guarding the alpha’s body secured him as carefully as possible and carried him away. Edgar looked at the beta and a knock on the door beside him startled him.

-Did he lose control?” he asked as if he knew it would happen.

-And he attacked the alpha, I would have preferred he wasn’t a match and would have died,” he replied with fury coursing through his veins.

The doctor clicked his teeth.

-Put up guards so the wolf doesn’t escape, then we’ll deal with him, I have to take care of Dante first.

-As if I care what happens to him. He’s lucky my alpha didn’t die because it would destroy him completely,” I could barely speak.

Edgar sighed and reached over and tapped him on the shoulder. His beta was being strangely irrational.

-Falco, he was raped, tortured, locked up for 50 years by his alpha husband, he can barely smell, see or hear, how do you think he would react when he opened his eyes and saw himself in an unfamiliar place with an alpha next to him,” Falco growled, “I’m not defending him, but put yourself in his shoes, how would you have reacted, my wise beta,” the doctor used all the energy he could replace to radiate calm to the angry beta. The final question was the coup de grace to calm him down.
