5 Puppies For The Alpha -
Chapter 18
Ten days had passed when he opened his eyes to replace a distorted image of the sky above him, higher and more visible than before, but still undefined. His eyesight was still badly impaired, though better.
There were murmurs all around him, which he couldn’t identify what they were saying, and that smell. That smell again.
Rather, those smells, it wasn’t just one. He sat up with a jolt, feeling every bone in his body creak and a wave of pain swept through him, making him lose his strength. Arms wrapped around his waist and someone sat down behind him, resting his back against the broad chest.
The sweet scent he had smelled that time reached his nose and he raised his head in a futile attempt to make out who it was.
-Fallen stroked the little wolf’s arms and kissed the crown of his head. An innate happiness invaded him and the fragrance he gave off made him want to be by his side for as long as he could.
-Ma, are you all right,” he heard another voice and a fuzzy figure stood before him.
The wolf raised his hand, trying to touch him.
Axel grabbed it and sat on the edge of the bed. He brought his slender fingers to his cheek, which was beginning to moisten, and let the faint warmth caress his skin. A sensation she enjoyed like no other.
-Axel, ma, I’m Axel, one of your puppies,” he put his other hand on his face, feeling, memorizing what his son looked like until he smiled.
Axel couldn’t hold back a sob and rushed over to cuddle into her lap, taking him by surprise. The puppy had never shown such a degree of emotion for anyone before. Perhaps he had for his closest siblings, but his body longed to be next to the stranger who was now his mother, like the most primal feeling. He stirred contentedly as his mother’s hand stroked his tousled hair.
-And I Sasha,” the bed sank to his side and the omega looked down at the smaller silhouette that seemed to jump uneasily for his attention.
He repeated the same procedure with his other pup and smiled again, pulling him to his chest and burying his nose in his fur, taking in the lovely scent of the little person.
He turned his face to Fallen who was admiring the whole emotional scene of his siblings.
-My name is Fallen, ma,” he kissed her temple and wrapped his arm gently around her slender neck, pulling her closer to him, “I’m glad you’re okay,” he wasn’t that sentimental, but this was no time to get too emotional. Like his brothers, a tear ran down his cheek, mingling with the tangle of dark hair of the omega wolf, the one who had brought them into the world, their mother.
So many years in captivity, being threatened, at last his greatest happiness had been fulfilled. To be reunited with his children.
After endless minutes the three released him, though he remained leaning against the support offered by Fallen’s body. He was still too weak.
After endless minutes the three released him, though he remained leaning against the support offered by Fallen’s body. He was still too weak.
-We have two more brothers, but for certain reasons they didn’t want to come to see you,” Axel began to speak, “One is Matías, he’s the oldest of us all,” he felt nostalgic, clearly remembering his first swollen belly, “He was in our father’s care, so it’s better to give him time to assimilate the idea,” he chose his words carefully, not wanting to hurt his mother with the rejection of his two brothers.
He imagined it.
-The other one is our little sister – he’d had a puppy, he adored little girls – Her name is Laira. She’s a little reluctant to the idea of her mother being alive. The change has been too much for her, so like our older brother it’s best to wait,” the reference continued, trying to justify her younger sister’s attitude.
The omega leaned over and touched her hand. She knew her husband must have poisoned their brains over the years. Sasha brought him a glass of water and put it in his hands, then stroked the skin.
-Ma, you’re so thin,” her tone was plaintive.
He smiled slightly, trying to dispel the atmosphere of worry.
The four of them heard the door open. The wolf’s body tensed and he tried to run backwards. All his alarms were ringing in his head. Alpha. Fallen’s hands stopped him in place.
-Calm down, ma, calm down. Don’t be afraid,” he tried to reassure him; he still remembered with dread the damage he’d done to himself while out of control.
Alpha, he repeated mentally through gritted teeth and an unpleasant tremor. Dante looked at the family scene he had broken and somehow felt dejected. A family of his own was something he had wanted for a long time and his hopes were getting further and further away, but looking at it another way he had gained one, not of his b***d but under his care.
-I have things to discuss with your mother, I need privacy,” he asked tolerantly.
The three brothers refused, looking at each other. They had no intention of leaving him alone now that they could be together. Big mistake, Dante’s scent grew stronger in the room and the four of them tensed. Fallen wrapped an arm around his mother’s waist and began to pull him backwards as he moved to her side.
-I said get out,” Dante said calmly, but in a deep, commanding voice, he wasn’t used to shouting and it wouldn’t be the first time he had done so.
Axel and Sasha reluctantly got out of bed and walked past the wolf.
-Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to him, I just need him to know the situation before something happens again,” he stressed the last part in reminder of the attack on his body.
Fallen untangled her arms from him as Dante arched an eyebrow; waiting for him to finish obeying.
-You can be sure, he won’t touch you, he was the alpha who with his pack helped us rescue you and has been taking care of you until now,” he used a lot of tact when referring to the leader, his mother’s attitude was one of total intolerance.
Still, she watched him squeeze the edge of the sheet until his knuckles turned white, but she nodded and smiled at him to signify her understanding.
-Fallen reluctantly turned around and stopped in front of the alpha, who was inches ahead of him.
-I’m no longer a puppy, and I won’t hesitate to defend her if anything happens.
Dante was unfazed by her words. He took two steps and stood so close that Fallen could hear his breathing.
-And I hope I don’t have to remember who you belong to now,” it was almost a whisper that chilled the younger man’s b***d, “Your brothers are waiting for you,” he urged him to leave.
When the door was closed Dante studied the emaciated wolf sitting on the bed, who after several days and constant doses of b***d no longer looked like the undead. He approached and sniffed his fear in the air.
After almost killing him, he was afraid of him, ironically enough.
She reached beside the bed and took his chin between her fingers and lifted it to meet beautiful violet eyes with a fuzzy iris. A pity. Edgar had mentioned that his senses would take a little longer to recover fully, or almost fully.
-First of all, I want to know your name,” he was used to being obeyed.
His skin felt cold and the dry swallow moved the muscles in his throat.
-I am not your husband, but I am the new alpha of your pack, so I demand to know your name,” he spoke slowly and without aggression. Obedience was not the omega’s forte and it tested him all the damn time. Patience!
The younger one’s lips trembled and parted, letting out the first gasp of air.
-Lu…Luky,” Dante waited for him to be able to say it, not wanting to force it. The sounds came out rough and halting.
He ran his finger caressingly over the too-soft skin on his chin. An action she found herself enjoying as she waited for him to speak.
-Luky…Luk…yan,” she said haltingly. It was many years of barely using the spoken word, years that she thought she would go insane without speaking to anyone.
-Lukyan,” Dante smiled with pleasure, “Beautiful name, for an omega,” he concluded.
