The cutting silence and tense atmosphere made more than one person uncomfortable. The two rulers stared at each other. He had asked to see his people and he had refused. Lukyan drew his lips into a line and rose slowly, analysing his every move, yet his knees creaked. Holding back the pain he approached where the alpha should be and stopped in front of him, raising his head.

His scent betrayed calmness, tranquility, not rapture as Dante had imagined after his refusal.

-I just want to see them and get them back to their normal state,” he reasoned evenly.

-No,” the alpha denied again.

-Why?” she tilted her head, trying to collate with him.

-I would not take anyone in your condition to such a dangerous place,” he commented, fearing for the wolf’s physical and mental integrity. Many wolves from the old pack were out of control and he didn’t think they would recognise the omega queen. The situation could break him.

-Alpha, I am a pureblood omega,” she continued as if she hadn’t heard his denial.

Dante did not understand the comment.

-Take me and you will understand,” he insisted, sensing the elder’s hesitation.

Curiosity gnawed at him, what he meant. He didn’t know much about the omegas and even less about purebloods as he put it. They were few and far between and few spoke about themselves, kept to the shadows, trying to remain unnoticed. There must be something about them that made it so. Maybe this was the chance to replace out.

-Don’t leave my side, and it will only take a few minutes,” he agreed in an authoritative tone, not wanting to show his interest in the subject.

In the end he agreed, the wolf seemed to want to escape and run to where he kept the males confined. She saw him smile. Slightly, almost imperceptibly sincere.

-Thank you.

Lukyan turned, waving goodbye to everyone and resumed his march behind Dante, when his foot failed and he fell forward. The alpha responded with his overdeveloped reflexes and wrapped one of his strong arms around him, lifting him off the ground and carrying him as he had done before.

-Rest in the meantime,” he said without looking at him. She didn’t seem sure she was doing the right thing, she wanted to take him back to the mansion, but she knew he could do anything crazy to be reunited with his own kind. He felt it inside him.

Lukyan held onto his collar with more confidence this time. This alpha didn’t seem so bad? He hadn’t assaulted his family and he cared for him as if he were a delicate crystal, he would still have to wait for his true colours to come out. You couldn’t trust anyone, only yourself.

Ryan for his part stood with the other wolves, watching as his queen departed into the arms of the alpha who seemed to want to hog him, constantly mixing her scent with his. He could only click his tongue and clench his fists until they bled.

Dmitri found the sight before his eyes comical. His brother so intimate with another male, a scene worthy of his dreams.

-Commander, what’s so funny,” the twin just shook his head and denied his companion’s question.

-Nothing, I just remembered something,” he couldn’t share with a subordinate a funny comment that included his twin and alpha of the pack. He respected him above all else.

Dante smelled something fishy coming from his brother, he knew he was up to something or would be teased. The gleam in his eyes gave him away.

-And what does the queen say,” Dmitri bowed to the omega in respect as his brother helped her to the ground.

-You smell just like him. No, similar,” he replied, accepting the treatment and curious about the scent he gave off.

-He’s my twin brother,” the alpha stood by her side with his hand on her back and pulled her back against his body, the little rest hadn’t helped her stability.

-I had business to attend to; so I didn’t get a chance to greet him. I’m Dimitri, the Pack Commander,” he introduced himself, showing his friendlier side.

He nodded his head in greeting, I was sure he would know his name by now.

-The males of my pack are here, can you take me inside,” he pointed inside where he could only see lights and flashes.

Dimitri looked at his brother.

-He insisted and there’s something interesting I want to check out,” he explained to the other’s astonished face.

His brother just lifted his shoulders and turned and led the way into the large nave of cells, the vast majority occupied by wolves, some in their animal form, some in human. The common factor, all of them red-eyed and chained, totally out of control.

Lukyan could not differentiate well, with the light barely coming from the small windows and the torches scattered throughout the ship.

-Take me into someone’s cell,” he asked Dmitri.

He felt Dante’s hand curl around his arm.

That’s not what we agreed, you’re not going into any of the cells,” he said flatly.

-Then you can take it, I can’t do anything from here,” he removed his hand, pushing it down, “Just watch.

Dante clenched his fist and looked at his twin.

-Two more wolves came running up. “Hold him,” he pointed to the prisoner in the cell he was opening. Over six feet tall, the well-muscled wolf, now consumed by his own body trying to survive.

The two guards entered and grabbed the neck of the resisting prisoner and secured his hands. The prisoner began to grunt and white phlegm dripped from his lips.

Lukyan was led into the cell by Dmitri.

-I’ll walk the rest of the way, you can get more upset,” he said, confident in his actions.

Reluctantly the wolf left him and joined Dante at the entrance, guard up, ready to attack if necessary.

-Are you sure about this,” the Commander asked with dread.

-No.” His brother looked annoyed and very worried.

Lukyan walked over and stopped in front of the wolf that tried to attack her. The two soldiers tensed their arms to stop his movements and even the brothers had broken their stance. For his part, he had not flinched.

-Shhhhhh,” he said softly, raising his arms and bringing his hands to the cheeks of the wolf who, as soon as he felt his touch, stopped in his tracks, “That’s it, good boy,” he whispered softly.

From the omega’s body, a soft, sweet scent began to waft from his body and spread throughout the ship.

-Easy, come back with me, I’m here, it’ll be all right,” each word trailed as she gazed persistently at the wolf.

The tormenting noise of growling and howling, in that place, gradually stopped. The prisoner slumped forward and they could only watch as his eyes returned to their natural green before he lost consciousness.

Those present were shocked.

Lukyan staggered and his legs finally gave out in exhaustion. His body was held by Dante before he fell to the ground.

-What did you do?” he looked more than surprised.

-What only omegas can do, awaken the wolves from madness,” he whispered.
