There was only one thing I could do. And that was to win. For the pack, for all the people who trusted him, for his children, for Lucian, for the puppy in his belly, and for the wolf that had made him see the world differently. So no matter what happened, he had to destroy Ryan and most essential, stay alive.

With those thoughts in his mind he lunged at the enemy. This time he focused all his senses and strength to take the necessary bites. He knew that the longer he delayed the more likely Lucian and Dante would be in danger. But Ryan moved too quickly and his teeth landed on top of his shoulder blade. They trembled as they made contact with the surface with little muscle. Still, he squeezed and yanked at the skin, trying to do as much damage as possible.

Ryan grunted in pain and moved his head to bite down as one of Lucian’s paws landed on his eye, burying itself in it. The larger wolf shook his head and nearly knocked him to the ground. The difference in strength was too great. Luckily for the red-haired wolf, Dante broke his fall by growling in response. Lukyan fell to his side moments later. He gasped and spat out the chunk of b***d.

The wound caused by the omega would not close as his eye did so with impressive force. Lukyan moved away from them drawing Ryan’s attention. His alpha and his friend could help him, but that only put them in more danger, he was safer than anyone, his wounds were closing thanks to Lucian’s b***d inside him. He could not risk it. With his mind he stopped both of their movements and the wolves stood stiffly in place snarling at what he had done to them. That was for the best.

Ryan lashed out at him hard and the two became embroiled again in a fight of bites, scratches, fangs, b***d. Dante almost went mad with the image and the helplessness of not being able to do anything, he was paralyzed. That he would scold and punish her if they got out of this for doing that to him, it was certain. Next to him Lucian was no better. His muscles were tense as were Dante’s trying to move in vain.

Lukyan and Ryan parted almost breathlessly, both of them. Even at this point, the wolf had taken so many bites that recovery was a torturous and painful process and was becoming slow. At least he had the welcome sight of a wolf with more wounds than flesh in place. But he was not winning. She could hold her own against him, she had taken some of his dominance from him with the help of her daughter, he was weak but not advancing. This could go on for days before either of them fell. His regeneration was much slower than at the beginning. He figured it was Ryan’s toxins, he didn’t know how many his body could take.

They were evenly matched.

-Do you need my help one last time, Ma?

The Lukyan world went dark and he found himself in his human form. Total silence was all around him only being able to hear his own breathing. Bare footsteps were projected in front of him and from the shadows his son slowly appeared. His long dark hair blended into the background in an unusual way.

-Aidan,” she mentioned his name to receive a smile from him.

-Ma, let me help you, if we don’t do something, that wolf will kill my family and my wolf. I can’t allow that.

The more Lukyan looked at him the more they were alike and yet not. He spoke the words, but they seemed empty, as if he were empty. The omega approached his son and touched his face. His skin was cold and pale. He wrapped his arm around his neck and pulled him close, hugging him. She didn’t know why, but her chest tightened at the sight of him and her eyes filled with tears.

-Don’t cry, ma,” Aidan didn’t respond to the hug, but he didn’t reject it either, he just didn’t do anything, “Don’t worry about me now, I’ll be fine, no matter what decision you make, it will always be the right one.

-You talk as if your life depended on my decisions,” Lukyan pulled back a little to see the same fake smile on his son’s face.

-You’ll know in time,” Aidan put his hand on Lukyan’s belly where he formed, “I’m sorry for all the trouble I can give you, but I want you to know that I’ll never be upset by what you do, ma. Trust you more.

Lukyan put a hand on either side of his son’s face and kissed his forehead. He had a bad feeling about the whole thing, but he didn’t want to put it into words. He feared his fears would come to life. Once her lips left her puppy’s forehead she joined his.

-Then help me one more time, my son.

-As you wish, ma, and the next time we meet I hope to be in your arms,” his surroundings faded back to the uneven ground and the strong stench of b***d.

Ryan was still there and was preparing for another attack. This time Lukyan trusted his senses, trusted his son, trusted him. His attacker began to run in his direction. Lukyan did not move.

Everything seemed to pass in fragments too slow for some, too fast for others. Kaiser, Falco, Dmitri, Lucian, Dante and several members of the pack could only watch as the huge wolf was almost on top of their queen. Dante felt his heart pounding and despite tearing more than a muscle he managed to break his grip on his body and run to his wolf’s defence.

Lukyan was oblivious to what was going on around him. He didn’t hear anything, he didn’t smell anything, he just waited. He waited for the right moment. And when he felt Ryan’s teeth on his head and his nauseating breath touch his skin, for a second the wolf’s body froze.

He didn’t need any more time. His son had given him one second and that was more than enough. In one swift movement he leaned down and taking momentum he opened his mouth and closed it on Ryan’s neck, so hard that his jaws ached. But the depth with which it had bitten was enough for the central vein of the huge wolf to be reached and severed by the fangs.

Ryan jerked, howling so loud it burst eardrums. He thrashed violently but Lukyan only squeezed harder. He would not let go, not until the wolf’s body fell limp. Ryan put up a fight, not giving up even as he was running out of strength.

-I promise I’ll come back and you’ll be mine,” he growled and his paws buckled, falling forward, “I swear,” his voice was getting weaker, “I’ll…destroy…you…I’ll…destroy…you…I’ll…I’ll…I’ll…I’ll…

Ryan’s pupils slowly turned white as his body crashed to the ground taking a very tired Lukyan with him.

Had he won? He didn’t know. His energies for the moment left him only allowing him to drop his skin and lay on his side next to the dead body of his enemy, unaware of what was going on around him. There were sounds around him, but he could not define what.

He could feel someone grabbing him by the skin on the back of his neck and carefully dragging him onto the cool grass. It was better than being on his enemy. A warm tongue began to lick his slowly closing wounds on his back, face, paws. He smiled inwardly and made an attempt to move his head so that it fell heavily again, he was extremely tired. His tongue stopped running over his body to move behind his ear.

Dante couldn’t stop touching his husband. He almost thought he would lose him. She lowered herself onto his stomach until she was lying next to him and nuzzled his head with her snout. She was happy that it was finally over and that neither of them were dead. Wounded yes, but alive.
