Chapter 85 Trial by Blood

“You little…” Xandra didn’t like talking about this topic at all. If Johnson wasn’t Narcissus’ son, it would be an embarrassment to the family.

Narcissus flew into a rage as well. He hurled his kebab onto the floor and pointed at Austin angrily. “What the hell did you just say, you b*stard? Austin’s my son! One more word from you and you’re dead!”

To everyone’s curiosity, Amy wasn’t saying anything. She kept telling her husband and his mother to not trust anything Austin said.

“Hey, if you don’t believe me, ask your wife about it.” Austin nodded at Amy calmly.

Narcissus turned around and asked, “Amy, is Johnson my son?”

Amy looked a little nervous, but she said, “What are you talking about? Of course he’s your son.”

Austin, in a bid to make things worse, said, “If you’re so sure about it, then why don’t you show it through a trial by blood?”

Trial by blood was an ancient way to replace out the paternity of a child. If the blood of a child and the man were to merge, then they were related, but if the blood couldn’t merge, then it meant the child was the spawn of another man.

“Challenge accepted.” Narcissus wasn’t an expert on medicine, but he knew how trials by blood worked, and he went with that route just to keep his dignity. “Mom, get Johnson here. I’ll show them he’s my boy.”

“That you should. Our lineage cannot be questioned.” Xandra’s ego was bigger than her head, and she must prove that her grandson belonged to her son, or people would gossip about them.

Amy panicked. “Trial by blood is unreliable. We should get a DNA test. We can get it this afternoon. There’s no way this trial can work, and he’s your son anyway, Narcissus. Cutting his finger won’t be good for him.”

“Oh, someone’s panicking.”

“Shut it!” Amy glowered and roared, “Just shut up and eat! You don’t get to butt into my family’s business! I’ll kill you!”

“Wh oops, sorry, Shouldn’t have poked my nose into where it doesn’t belong.” Austin went back to

his food.

That only enraged Johnson and Xandra more. They ignored Amy’s protests and the boy’s shouts as they cut the boy’s finger open, and then Narcissus dropped his and the boy’s blood into a bowl.

Everyone huddled around the bowl, including Freya, Lucian, and Lilian. They wanted to see the

results.

The blood fell into the bowl, and yet they couldn’t merge. It was obvious that Johnson was someone else’s child.

Agitated, Amy shouted, “That’s unreliable! Trial by blood has no scientific proof that it works!”

Xandra plopped to the ground, pale as a ghost, and her eyes were bereft of any emotions. She couldn’t believe her precious grandson wasn’t her son’s spawn, and she cried. What did we do to deserve this?

“D amn you, Amy! Explain yourself or else!” Narcissus grabbed Amy by the neck, furious.

“Honey, you know trial by blood isn’t a good way to determine anything. We should get a DNA test instead,” said Amy, shocked.

“Fine, let’s do that. But if the results remain the same, I will kill you and your family!” The fury in Narcissus’ eyes was feral.

Amy knew her husband too well. If the DNA test still showed the same results, he would go berserk. Scared, she held his leg and pleaded, “I’m sorry. This is my fault. My ex knocked me up. I slept with him the night before we got married, but I really love you. Please, please just forgive

me.”

“Da mn you!” Xandra fell unconscious from all the rage and sorrow.

“Mom!” Narcissus kicked Amy away and quickly massaged his mother’s temples.

Xandra woke up a while later, and she kicked and screamed and bawled. “What did we do to deserve this?” They were utterly embarrassed. She had no reason to live now that she found out her grandson belonged to another man.

“I’ll kill you, Amy!” Narcissus flew into a rage over his wife’s infidelity, and he picked up a bat to beat her up. Shocked, Lilian told her son and Austin to stop them in case someone was killed.

Ausin and Lucian slowly approached the battle and calmed things down.

While Austin was breaking them up, he said, “Haven’t you ever wondered how your son turned out to be this cute when you’re ugly as a toad? The answer’s already in front of you all this time. Bet your wife’s ex is super handsome.”

Narcissus’ rage went to his head. He sprayed a jet of blood into the air and fell unconscious.

Freya quickly said, “We should leave, Lilian’

“Sure. Let’s talk at home, Lilian nodded.

Since Lucian and the others were leaving, Yvonne saddled her backpack and scurried off too. Everyone else was shocked. First they saw Xandra faint, and then Narcissus spewed blood.

They wanted to leave, for if someone were to die here, there would be a lot of explaining to do.

The restaurant owner heaved a sigh and cleared the spot, and then he left as well.

The only sound that remained in the park were the cries of an old woman.

Lilian lived in a village near the city. Even though it wasn’t in the city, transportation was still great, and Lilian cleaned the house up well. The yard was filled with all kinds of greenery, and this place was detached from the bustle of the city. It was perfect to stay in.

“You should move to the city,” said Freya. “Lucian saved a rich man back when he was in the military, and he got us a big villa. You can move in. We can all live under the same roof, and you can see Minnie every day.”

Lilian held Freya’s hand and smiled. “Thank you, but I like it here.”

“Just let her stay here, Freya. I checked her health just now, and city life isn’t the best thing for someone with her condition,” said Austin.

“What condition?” Lucian was worried.

“Oh, it’s nothing. She just did too much manual labor, so now she has a herniated disc. Hypertension and early-stage diabetes too, from the looks of it. I’ll handle everything. All she needs is a little med,” said Austin.

Lilian looked at Austin and gave him a thumbs up. “Good eye, lad. That was all correct. I went for a checkup, and that’s what the doctor said. It’s bugging me a bit.”

“Leave everything to me, Mrs. Gray.” Austin smiled. “I’m a wonder doctor. This is nothing to me. Come on, Lucian. We gotta grab some herbs. Freya and Minnie can stay with your mother.”

“Sure.” Lucian nodded and went with Austin.

After the men were gone, Lilian asked, “Is he the one who healed you?”

“Yes, and it was magical too. I saw him using golden needles for that. It was awesome.”

“I see. No wonder he saw through me so easily.” A small smile tugged at Lilian’s lips, but then she got tense. “Wait, golden needles? Is he a Ferguson? Is his father someone named Ryan Ferguson?”

“No idea, but he is a Ferguson. Austin Ferguson. What’s wrong?” Freya noticed the look on Lilian’s face.

“It’s nothing.” Lilian chuckled and changed the subject, but it was obvious something lingered on

her mind.
