Back to Love: A New Beginning -
Chapter 47
Chapter 47:
My heart skipped a beat. Seeing how stunned I was, Derek smiled and urged me to sit up. Then, he put his hand on my waist and I leaned passively on his shoulder. “Then stay with me.”
The lounger was big enough for only one person, so I had to lean in very close to him to accommodate both of us.
The smell of nicotine lingering on his body haunted me a little. It was as if the smell was entangled with the faint sorrow his presence gave off.
Even though I had already done very intimate things with him, I was still very nervous when I lay next to him like this.
For a long time, we lay on the lounger in silence. Neither of us spoke.
All I could hear was his steady breathing, and all we could feel were each other’s heartbeats. These faint sounds were the only melodies on this cold night.
His embrace was so comforting that I soon fell asleep.
Hearing faint noises, I awoke to replace that Derek was carrying me.
“What’s going on?” I asked groggily.
“Let’s go back to the bedroom. It’s cold outside,” he said.
He carried me to my room and placed me on the bed. Then he didn’t leave, but leaned over and put his hands on either side of my body.
There was no light in my room. In the darkness, he gave me a glance as if desire was written in his eyes. His gaze was like an invisible net that could easily trap me.
As if he could read his unspoken desire, my heart started beating fast. I felt as if my heart wanted to burst out of my chest.
A moment later, Derek lifted the quilt, got under it and hugged me.
“I just want to hold you to sleep. I won’t do anything else,” he whispered huskily. The sound of his voice awakened a sensation in my body.
My back was almost pressed against his chest, and I could clearly feel the movements of his chest. The warmth of his breath seeped into my skin, making me tingle.
All in all, he and I were a married couple. I could ask to do more than cuddle myself to sleep.

I suddenly realized that I was not rejecting his advances and discovered that I was even eager for his caresses.
The moment I realized this, I felt fear. It was a dangerous sign. I knew I shouldn’t fall in love with him, but I couldn’t help being attracted to someone so charming.
Throughout the night, he fell asleep while holding me like this. He behaved as he said he would, and he didn’t do anything he shouldn’t have. He didn’t say anything to me about the guitar, and I didn’t mention it either. We both tacitly avoided that topic.
First thing in the morning, the faint smell of tobacco was the first thing I smelled when I woke up.
As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw his muscular chest.
All the drowsiness I felt vanished in the blink of an eye.
Derek was leaning against the headboard with a cigarette in one hand and a tape in the other. It was the Thorn Birds album he had put on the bedside table.
“Are you awake?” he asked.
“I am.” I looked at his muscular chest and swallowed silently,
Nothing had happened yet, but this scene was positively arousing.
“Unfortunately, there is no player nearby, so this tape will have to be used as a mere decoration.” I tried to talk about something irrelevant to the romance to ease the awkward tension.
He said nothing, but I suddenly riveted my eyes on his face.
“What’s wrong?” he asked staring into my eyes.
I raised my head and returned his gaze without blinking.
As if uncomfortable by my gaze, a trace of rare shyness appeared on his face. Then, he reached out to pinch my cheek.
“Have you come to replace out how handsome your husband is?”
“I’ve found something better, something magical,” I replied.
Derek looked at me with hopeful eyes, apparently waiting for me to continue “I’ve discovered that you look like the lead singer of the Thorn Birds.”
“Although I’ve never seen them before, there’s a picture of them on this tape. Come on, show me.” Having said that, I tried to take the tape out of his hand. But he raised his hand, high enough to keep the tape out of my reach.
“I’m better looking than that guy,” Derek said arrogantly.
“Show me, okay! They do look alike. But the lead singer of the Thorn Birds has long hair, why didn’t I notice that before? Show it to me, please?”
To get the tape from his hand, I had to climb on top of him to get it.
It looked like he was taunting me by pulling the tape up even higher.
My desire to get what I wanted had been completely aroused by this man. To get the tape back, I recklessly climbed on top of him, trying to snatch it out of his hand.
“Why are you so wild?”
His witty banter made me realize how inelegant my current posture must be. So I hurried to get off him. I was so embarrassed I couldn’t bring myself to look at him. However, Derek threw me under him and got on top of me .
