Chapter 64:.

My eyes snapped open – what was Louise talking about?

Suddenly, Felix scooped her up in his arms and headed for the door. I wanted to chase after him, but Derek stopped me.

“Felix, Lulu is not rational right now. She’s drunk. Don’t do anything to her.”

Felix stopped dead in his tracks and turned his attention to me, “You should be focusing on taking care of Derek.”

After he said that, I watched him take Louise away without doing anything to stop him.

Louise only said those words because she was drunk. I couldn’t imagine what would happen to her.

Panicking, I dragged Derek over and said, “Hurry, call Felix!”.

Derek urged me to sit back down. “Eveline, there are things you can’t control. It’s obvious that Felix has feelings for Louise, and I can see that she likes him too, can’t you see that? It’s just that they both lack the courage to take it a step further.”

“But even if they like each other, their feelings haven’t reached that point yet,” I replied.

He lit another cigarette and replied, “They’re both adults. Like you, they are capable of making their own decisions and can be responsible for whatever they do.” The way he gave me a look made my heart skip a beat.

“Maybe in some people’s eyes it’s crazy that you married me so soon. But you and I are adults. We know what we’re doing and we’re certainly capable of taking responsibility for our decisions. And I will be responsible for you.”

I was moved once again. Just then Derek’s phone rang.

He answered the call and said, “Yes, it’s table number 8 at Blue Sky.”

Not long after hanging up, a man with a briefcase came over and kindly extended Derek’s hand to shake.

“Greetings, Mr. Sullivan. I’m the editor-in-chief of the Sousen Evening News.”

After shaking his hand, Derek smiled and said, “I’ll buy you drinks.”

The man sat down and smiled back. “Thank you for your generosity.”

He set his briefcase aside and wanted to say something to Derek. But after glancing at me, he chose not to say anything yet. Derek suddenly turned to me and said, “You can go home first. I’ll ask Timmy to take you home.”

“Aren’t you going home too?” I blurted out.

She leaned close to me, almost face to face, and whispered, “What’s the matter, can’t you stay away from me?”

My face turned red and I immediately stood up. “Anyway, I’m leaving!”

After walking around for a while, I turned around and realized that the editor-in-chief was talking to Derek. The two of them seemed to be discussing something important.

Once Timmy took me back to the villa, I showered and lay down on the bed, unable to fall asleep.

Perhaps because the villa was empty, my heart felt empty too. I wondered what they could be talking about. Why did Derek send me? When it was past midnight, he texted me. “I’m not coming home today. You should go to sleep.”

Where was he going to go if he wasn’t coming home? Were they going to talk all night?

Because of the message, I found it even harder to fall asleep.

Not even a minute passed when a strong thunderstorm came.

Ever since I was a child, I had been afraid of thunder. It was said that only those who had done something bad were scared of thunder. I had never done anything like that and yet I was afraid.

Through the gap in the curtain, I saw that the night sky seemed to tear apart, and the thunder was so loud that it looked like there was an explosion over my head.

Some people said you shouldn’t use your phone during a thunderstorm, but I was so scared that I had to pull out my phone to text Derek.

“Where are you?”

Twenty minutes later, I finally got a reply.

“Come downstairs and open the door. I left my keys inside the car.”

I felt like a person stumbling out of the dark who has suddenly found the light. I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs barefoot.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw him standing in the doorway, soaked from head to toe. The sky behind him was illuminated by lightning.

My eyes filled with hope as I ran to embrace him.

Suddenly, a strong smell of alcohol hit my nose. It was coming from Derek.

“Didn’t you say you weren’t coming home tonight?” I asked, my voice choked with sobs.

“I knew you were afraid of thunder,” he said. Right after he said that, he picked me up, took off his shoes and went upstairs. Then he took me to the bathroom.

After turning on the shower, our bodies were covered in water. My vision was blurry from the running water, and all I could see was how he quickly took off his clothes and mine as well.
