TEGAN'S

P.O.V

It took her a while to wake up. To say I was nervous was an understatement. We weren't sure the potion would work so there was a chance she would be waking up wanting to kill me still. I asked Fredrick to be in the room with me, but if anything were to hit the fan he was to immediately disappear until it was corrected.

The monitor's wave link picked up a pace when she started to come too. Her eyes began to flutter open, still in a confused state of mind. She looked around completely unaware of what had happened.

"Where am I?" Her groggy voice asked. "Who are you, people?" She then asked as her heart rate began to spike.

"Mom! Mom, it's me, Fredrick!" Fredrick nearly screamed as he rushed forward. Her heart rate quickly picked up with every step he took.

"I...I don't know you. My son is... he is not you," She replied in a terrified voice, making my heart sink.

I look over to see how Fredrick would react. He had stopped walking when she spoke and was standing there gaping at the woman who was clearly our mother but didn't even know it. His face appeared as if he wanted to cry but his Alpha nature did not allow it. "Am I in a hospital?" She asked, looking around at the white walls and beeping monitors.

"How about I go get the doctor?" I asked while tugging Fredrick's arm to follow me.

Once we were out of the room I finally addressed him.

"It's been 20 years. We have no clue what all happened to her and we can't expect her to suddenly remember, especially if her brain was altered in some way."

"But she didn't wake up even remembering she wanted you dead." He said, the defeat in his tone present.

"We don't know what she can remember. So let's go get Erin so she can examine her. Maybe a rush of unfamiliar faces was too much for her brain to grasp. She may need time." I explained, hoping he would take my words in.

Once Erin was located, and up to date. She followed us to her room, disappearing behind the closed door.

"Hey, how is it going?" Ezra's calm voice asked as he approached.

"Not sure. She is awake but as far as memory goes. I have no clue what she can remember." I answered honestly.

"But she didn't wake up wanting your blood on her hands though?"

"Not that I could tell. More confused if anything."

"That's a good sign though, right?"

"I don't know. I was hoping the confusion stemmed from the void of who she was no longer being there. But we have no clue what really happened to her over the last 20 years." I said with a shrug.

"Do you think Kennedy may be able to help?" He asked, making me briefly yet unnecessarily jealous for a moment.

However, what he was suggesting wasn't awful. Kennedy is a skilled therapist that has seen more cases than just us. She worked at a psychiatric hospital part-time aside from her office hours which she split between here at the pack and at an office outside of the pack where she also saw humans. I am sure Kennedy has seen it all and maybe she was exactly what my mom needed.

"Actually, call her up. That may be exactly what she needs." I said, although I still felt a little bitter about them apparently dating back in the day.

I waited outside of the room for some time before Erin finally reappeared.

"How does she look?" Fredrick asked, jumping from his seat.

He seemed to be more on edge than even me.

"She is showing signs of severe brain trauma. I am thinking she may suffer from a possible TBI from maybe a previous encounter. I will know more when I run some diagnostics." She said looking between us.

"I'm sorry doc, what is a TBI?" Fredrick asked with a confused look on his face.

"Traumatic brain injury. We don't typically see it with werewolves since our wolves heal us but it is common among humans. I am wondering if maybe her wolf was stripped away temporarily while she was tortured, hence the possible brain damage. So when she got her wolf back, it was far too late to repair it. Now, this is strictly only theories. There is no way of truly knowing what happened to her. However, I will be ordering scans to be able to look at her brain and figure out what is going on physically. If there are no signs of a TBI, I will do other tests to narrow down why she is having memory loss." Erin said.

I only nodded in response as I took in the information. Once Erin walked away Ezra popped back up.

"Kennedy said she has one more client to see and then she will be over. I'd say approximately an hour or two at the latest." Ezra said as he took a seat next to me. "Did I miss anything?" He asked, looking between Fredrick and me.

"Not much, just that our mom's brain is probably fucked," Fredrick replied with a huff.

Ezra looked over at me. My face is still probably looking the same as it did when we got the news. I don't know why the news was a surprise to me, it was Iblis we were talking about here. The same man that had Lydia's brain literally prodded at for information she may never even have had.

"She may never be the same again in other words, not with a traumatic brain injury," I finally responded to his look.

"I'm sorry, I know you were hoping to get your mom back." He said as he took my hand into his own.

"I just wanted to know what it was like, you know?" I replied while looking between Fredrick and Ezra.

"I know Red, I know." He said as a fit of baby giggles sounded out down the hall. Lilyanna was walking down the hall holding Elias, his laugh immediately lighting up the room with joy.

"You always have me dear. I may not be your mother by birth nor did I raise you but I like to think of myself as your mother. Even if it is only by law." Her sweet voice echoed down the hall making me smile.

I walked over embracing her in my arms. We hadn't had the chance to really bond with all the chaos fate had thrown at us but I knew in my heart if I ever needed her, she was there.

I took Elias and kissed his sweet head, looking into the eyes that matched mine.

"Want to meet your other grandma?" I asked, making a cooing sound.

"Is it safe?" Ezra then asked, concern lingering in his voice.

"He will have his overbearing mom and overprotective dad with him, I don't know how much safer he could be," I answered as we walked to the door.

Upon entering Marci was touching the tube that was in her arm. Elias made another cooing sound making her eyes immediately shoot up. A look of pure surprise crossed her face. "You found him, you found my little brown-haired baby boy." She said making us all stop in our tracks.

Did she remember Darion? If so, that left us one option that could help jog her memory.

"Fuck, we have to call Darion. Don't we?" Fredrick asked the question my brain was already thinking.
