Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 191
TEGAN'S P.O.V
We got through the borders with ease. There was an underground tunnel that was once used back in a major battle of the ancestors in the 1800s. I had learned about it during my Luna Queen studies. I had always said I would go explore down here, but I just never had the chance. The tunnel goes directly under the entire Kingdom. Bloody brilliant if you asked me. But it was meant to keep the Kingdom villagers and pack members safe. However, over time it was needed less and less, until one day it was completely forgotten. 'The tunnel leds out into the sewage, gross.' Gemma said in my head. 'It has kept loner wolves, rogue wolves, and any possible threat from entering them.'
'Pretty smart, I wouldn't think to go scavenging inside of shit!'
Which was exactly the reason it was built this way. It appeared as if it were a drain, but it wasn't.
'Do we have to get in there?' Lucy asked, I could hear the disgust in her minlink.
'To answer everyone's questions. We will not be going into the sewage. There is an entrance meters from it, that is where we will enter. I chose to minlink everyone at once instead.
If Gemma and Lucy had those thoughts then I'm sure many others did too. I could hear huffs, as if releasing a breath. Relief of not having to navigate through shit and piss.
'The tunnels are dark. Those who will walk from here in their human forms will carry flashlights!
I shifted first. I was one of the said wolves that would be in human form. I originally didn't have Gemma so it made sense. Now it was just easier to stick to the plan. "Helena, this is where we part. Play your part." I said as she took off in the direction of where the guests would enter the Kingdom.
Helena's part was added last minute. It would be suspicious if she of all people didn't make an appearance at my memorial. Therefore, she'd be my eyes on the inside. Once she was gone, I quickly put on clothes, as did the selective few that would also be traveling in their human forms. My attention went back to the entryway of the tunnels. It would take me a moment to get the door to open due to it being sealed shut. Not only by magic but also because of crud, moss, vines, and rust that had welded it shut over the years. Once I finally got it opened I pulled out the flashlight I'd packed in my bag. The light shined, illuminating a small portion of the tunnel.
We slowly began to walk forward. The further we got, the more cold it became. The walls were full of drawings. Not a spot without artwork. I wondered what story it told. Were they stories of the beginning? Or was it stories of the fallen? Either way, I would have to come back down one day and look at it all more in depth.
The further we walked, the more anxious I was becoming. The tunnels went on for miles. There were multiple different directions to go down. As we walked on, warriors would part ways at the entryway they were needed in. I had the blueprints of the tunnels. Which I spent every waking minute learning in order for this plan to succeed.
By the time we would make it to the palace, there would only be three of us remaining. Fredrick, Lucy, and myself. The rest would be at their own destination, awaiting further orders. I wouldn't attack unless I had to. First I would try to reason with him. He was afterall Ezra's best friend.
'Are we almost there?' Lucy asked as the beating music blared in the air in the distance. 'Sounds like a yes!
After a few hundred feet an old oak door could be seen at the end of the tunnel. 'That door, why does it look so familiar?' Lucy asked.
"Because we've seen it in our dreams." I finally answered out loud as we came up to it.
I placed my hand along the jagged edges while running it down the wood. The music blared even louder above us. We were now directly beneath the area where Uriah was holding his ceremonial farewell/welcome party. The bastard was too selfish to even give us a day to ourselves for our people to mourn. He chose to make what should be a sad day into a celebration instead. Probably so that he could feel better about what he had done. Or maybe he wanted us to fade into a memory, while he became some glorified King, who was not really a King at all.
'More like a mad King!
Gemma wasn't wrong. I hadn't known Uriah but for a few years, and the last few months he had slowly become nothing short of mad.
"When do you want to make an appearance?" Lucy asked, curiously.
"When Helena gives me the green light."
We waited patiently for what felt like forever. I wanted to rush in and end this treachery once and for all. But I also wanted it to be the perfect timing. I wanted to shove his own words down his throat as he begged for forgiveness. 'Starting to make me wonder if you've gone mad.' Gemma said.
I shook my head at my vengeful thoughts. I couldn't allow the anger of all that has happened to cloud my judgment. We all know I have a fiery spirit. But this has to be handled justly. I couldn't allow my anger to get the best of me. 'He is announcing the deaths now.' Helena mindlinked.
I quickly communicated what she said to everyone else. Keeping everyone in the loop a hundred percent. But that wasn't my greenlight. I was waiting for something far more motivating to make an appearance for. 'It's time.' She then said,
'We are entering the palace. Remain at your place until I give the order to come out. I mindlinked to everyone else as I pushed on the door.
A creak could be heard, but I wasn't concerned about us being spotted. I knew where this door led and nobody would dare be here.
The door opened to the wing that was under renovation. I was starting to wonder if the renovation was to keep others from replaceing this door. But that would be silly.
"It's a portrait?" Lucy asked as the door/picture closed behind us.
"Come, we have no time to sit and ponder." I said as I moved forward.
"Is this like the basement?"
"It's the lower level of the closed off wing. Right above us is the ballroom."
"How did I not know of this place? Do you know how many times I could've used this place to escape from my life and just relax while toking on some ganja?" "Weed, really?"
"What, I wasn't just a servant girl. I was also a party girl." She replied with a shrug.
We stopped speaking as we made our way up the stairs that led to the ballroom itself.
I creaked open the pantry door, startling the chef. Her eyes increased in size when she realized who I was.
"Luna Queen... But you're-"
"Not dead." I whispered as I placed a finger over my lips, telling her to keep quiet.
I crept the rest of the way out. More people could be heard whispering. Confusion all in their voices.
"Time to crown the next rightful King." Uriah said to an Elder.
The Elder looked as if it were killing him to pass along the Throne to someone like Uriah. I couldn't believe how much had already changed. The inside of my own home gave me the creeps.
"Uriah Benjamin Jameson, by taking on the throne you are promising to act in the name of the Goddess. Crowning you with a crown of glory and righteousness. With this crown you are stating that you have a right faith and manifold fruit of good works. You are obtaining the crown of an everlasting kingdom by the gift of him whose kingdom endureth for ever. You are choosing to be the realms protector. If you agree to the terms of ruling justly and wisely. Say, I do."
"|-"
"WILL DO NO SUCH THING!"
The crowd was now roaring in confusion. Whispers overtook the entire ballroom. A gulp could be seen visibly as Uriah's eyes landed on me.
'I know what you did. And you will pay. I mindlinked directly to him.
"It appears that the Queen lives on. There is no need for a crowning ceremony after all." The elder exclaimed.
"The crowning WILL go on." Uriah hollered while pulling his sword from its holster, placing it along the Elder's throat.
I had to end this before a bloodbath occurred. Only one needed to die tonight and it wasn't the Elder.
