Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 196
TEGAN'S P.O.V
He spun me around the dance floor once more before releasing my hand. When I stopped spinning, he was long gone. Leaving only his mint smell behind.
"I see you were making a deal with the devil without us." A voice I knew all too well said from behind me.
I turned around to see Lucy standing there, definitely not in a robe as she was before.
"He told me to come alone. You could have jeopardized our deal."
"Um, you did come alone. I drove myself here." She responded sassily.
"You know what I meant by coming alone."
"You didn't say I couldn't bring myself."
God damn her with her logical ways to wiggle around meanings. Looking for any possible loophole.
"He looked like he wanted to break him off a piece of you, though."
"Stop, my mate just died."
She threw her hands up in surrender. "Look, I was only stating the obvious." Her face lifted up in a half smile, which was basically taunting me. "He does not."
"Come on. You can't blame him. Look at you, you're a smoke bomb."
A blush crept on my face at the compliment. It was nice to hear, but also nice to feel that way too.
"So, what was the deal?" She asked, curiously.
"All I have to do is hand over Sibil."
"Oh really, that's all?" She asked sarcastically, knowing full well that it wasn't as easy as I was making it sound.
"I've been searching for her already. I'm on her trail. It's just every time she appears, she disappears. Been going in circles it seems. But I promise, I will hunt her down and hand her over. I will save Zola's life."
"I know you will, T." She said with a smile. "Well let's get home and replace that b***h of a witch, keeping our deal with the devil." She said while grabbing my hand.
When we got home it was well past midnight. The memorial was held when the moon was at its highest in the sky. Simply for the purpose of us howling to the moon as we set the wolves spirits free. Which was another reason I had already been searching for Sibil. I wanted not only revenge for her murdering my mate, but I also needed to set Kingston free. He deserved to be with the Moon Goddess, living his blissful life in eternal glory. That b***h stole that from him, as she stole him from me. She would pay for what she has done. I hadn't found what could kill her yet.
So the closest thing to killing her within my power, was to fvck her up physically as if she were a regular human. She wouldn't die because she was back to being immortal, but I could at least f**k her up enough to satisfy a smidge of my anger. Plus, even if I had found a way to kill her, I couldn't.
Simply because I made a deal with the devil that I intend on honoring.
"I want all of the details. Now." Novalee said as soon as we walked into the suite.
"The kids?"
"Are asleep. Spill."
Defelect, redirect. She was just as good at it as I was.
"I'll tell you. She was grinding all up on that man's junk." Lucy said, making Novalee's eyes bulge.
"I was not. It was one slow dance. I was hardly even against him."
Lies. He had me flush up against his skin.
"Okay. So, will he help us?"
"I just have to do one little thing for him first.""
"Which is what exactly? Give him your first born and prick your finger on a spindle?"
The irony of that statement was astonishing. Considering my first born was the one person he desired most, aside from Sibil herself. Not that he knew that.
"No, he just wants Sibil."
"Perfect, someone who's mastered the skill of remaining hidden." She replied as a creak in a door was heard.
"Novey-" Elias's gentle voice said from the hall.
We all turned to look at my baby's panicked face.
"What was it, E? Did you have a bad dream?" I asked in a soft voice.
"Novey, Zo."
"What about Zo, she is asleep, bub." Novalee responded, but his face sank even more.
"Zo, hurt."
Novalee's face faltered before she took off in a sprint down the hallway, Lucy and I right on her heels. She threw open the bedroom door. Zola laid in her crib shaking while foam came from her mouth.
"Oh Goddess no! Not yet! We are so close! Please hold on for mommy, Zo!" She screamed as she scooped her body up.
I mindlinked the infirmary as we all ran down there together. Luckily, Fredrick was still here so he agreed to stay behind with the other kids.
After what felt like hours, the nurse came out to take us back to her room.
"What's wrong? Please tell me that she is going to live?" Novalee asked with pleading eyes.
"I'm sorry. All I can do now is keep her comfortable until it's her time to go."
The doctor's words tore my heart into tiny pieces all over again. Breaking it in yet another way I didn't know existed.
This couldn't be happening. Not when we finally found the cure!
I pulled Novalee into my tight embrace as I stroked her hair.
"I wished y'all would've let me die that day. I wished y'all never would've brought me back. At least then I wouldn't have to deal with losing my child. I could've been on the other side, waiting for her to join me."
Her words felt like a knife that had been driven deeper into my heart. I couldn't form any words, let alone any that would be comforting to hear. I knew if I were in her shoes, I would be feeling that exact turmoil that she was feeling. "I'll be back, okay?" I said as I guided her to sit at Zola's bedside.
"Watch over her. I'll be right back." I whispered to Lucy as I took back off to the pack house.
I took the stairs two at a time, not wanting to wait around for the elevator. I made it to the room in record time.
Swinging the door open to see Iblis sitting there with a smirk on his disgusting face
"And what do I owe the pleasure, your majesty?" He asked in a snarky way.
"Call him."
"Who might you be talking about?"
"Don't play games with me, Iblis. Call Josiah, or I will."
"Feisty. I always liked that about you."
"Now!" I demanded, ignoring his comment.
He grunted, dialing the number for a second time. The line rang only once before connecting. I took the opportunity to yank the phone from his hand, taking the talking into my own hands. "Come to the palace. I need to recondition our terms. Don't make me wait." I demanded before disconnecting the call myself.
"Did you...Did you just say that and then hang up on
Master?"
Seeing Iblis bow to another irritated me. I always viewed him as some unstoppable force, but really he was a coward.
"You make me sick. You're a pathetic fraud." I spat out hatefully.
His face contorted to pure anger as he stood to his full frame, glaring down on me. But I wasn't afraid. I had no use for this pathetic waste of space. Not anymore. I could kill him and not lose any sleep over it. "Why you little wench. I'll have your head for that nasty tongue of yours."
His voice used to send shivers of fear down my body, now not so much.
"Incendio!" I chanted, which made him laugh.
"You think fire is going to hurt me? I lived in literal hell, baby."
A wicked smile plastered across my face as I finished my sentence. "Fiendfyre!"
"What the hell is that?" He asked as the normal orangey/red flame morphed into a big green flame that took the image of a large wolf. One twice his size.
"Manducare Eum!" I screamed at the flaming wolf, which meant 'Eat Him'. It launched itself from my hand, attacking Iblis with no mercy.
I knew that dipping my toes in black magic was bad. I mean, I had conjured one of the most deadly cursed fires known. One even Iblis couldn't beat.
"Hmm. interesting." The chilly voice I immediately recognized said from behind me. Holy s**t, he came!
"You got here fast." I chose to say, ignoring his comment.
"I always come when summoned."
I stood there staring at him in disbelief for a moment longer before the urgent matter came rushing back to me with his question. "What can I do for you, little one?"
There was a lot he could probably do for me, not in the biblical sense. But right now, all I could think of was one thing. Zola.
