Chasing My Rejected Luna -
Chapter 198
TEGAN'S P.O.V
I kept racking my brain, trying to figure out what he must've seen that intrigued him. I pray to the high heavens above that it wasn't my son. But what else would pique an interest in such an old soul who's seen it all? "Did anyone see Josiah give Zola his blood?" I asked as soon as he had left with Sibil once I was finally able to come visit them in the infirmary.
"No. It was like one minute she was sick and the next she was awake, alert, and happy." Novalee replied as she cuddled Zola closer to her chest. "So, should we give her his blood to be safe then?"
"Let's save it. If she takes a turn for the worse at least we will have this to save her."
I shook my head in understanding before handing over the vial of blood to Novalee.
"Thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me."
Tears were starting to free fall from her face with gratitude.
But I didn't want to be praised. I was just happy that Zola was healthy again and the curse was finally broken.
"Wait, has anyone heard from the Hidden Coven? We never showed up and they didn't even try to reach out again."
"No, I guess they didn't care if we showed up or not. They just wanted us to stop looking for them." Lucy then responded to me.
"So...about that tension between you and the god of death.
Lucy said, changing the subject.
"There is no tension. There is nothing there."
"Sure. Okay."
I wasn't even sure why she thought anything was brewing between us. We used one another to get what each of us needed. There was nothing else happening. "I needed his help." I then replied.
"But he definitely didn't need your's. He did the work for you and gave Sibil's location for crying out loud. Why was that?"
"Maybe he didn't want to do the dirty work." I tried reasoning.
"Or, he wanted to be around you longer."
I thought back to his grip on my hip. Thinking about his manicured hand as it pulled me closer to his body.
"There is nothing there. End of decision."
"Hmm." She only responded.
"Okay, subject change. What the f**k are those?" She then said pointing to the shadowed figures I had conjured
"I don't know how to make them go away." I admitted, honestly.
"What are they?"
"Um, fire?" I wasn't sure myself. I just thought of what I wanted and did it.
"Right. I guess they could guard you while you sleep so sexy dangerous men don't sneak into your bed."
"Stop Lucy. Nothing is happening. Actually, I don't want him near my Kingdom. Are you forgetting his destiny is linked to my son?"
"Not even a little. It makes it even more interesting that he is so interested in you."
"That was the Moon Goddesses mate. I had my chance at true love. I won't dabble in love affairs ever again."
"Maybe that's why he is so drawn to you. You have the powers of the Goddess. He must sense his mate's powers within you?" "That actually isn't a bad theory."
Lucy smiled at my small compliment.
"But that doesn't explain why he doesn't desire me too." She then said, ruining the moment.
"You have a mate." Fredrick responded with a sense of possessiveness in his tone.
"So does Tegan. Make it make sense."
"Tegan lost her mate, you didn't. In his eyes, she is fair. game."
"I am not. My heart is spoken for, even if Ezra is dead."
"Right. No, we know that. But that doesn't mean he cares." Fredrick said, trying to be reasonable.
"Not you too."
"Tegan, the man is ancient. Literally the first of our kind.
Nobody has even heard of him still being alive until recently. He has shown no interest in communicating with us. So, why now?"
"Maybe he sensed a shift in the universe when Elias came into his powers?"
The thought sent chills racking over my body, but I couldn't deny it. They were intertwined whether I wanted them to be or not.
"Possibly. Or maybe for the first time in centuries he found someone worthy of accepting as a chosen mate." Lucy then said, cutting my thoughts short.
"I have no intentions of ever taking another mate."
"Tell him that, then. Because that look in his eyes when he held onto you said otherwise."
Another chill ran down my body. Surely they misinterpreted the situation. There was no way that he wanted me of all people. And even if he did, he had another thing coming because I did not want him in return. But more than that, I for certain didn't want him replaceing out about Elias.
"I'm going to bed. It's been a long night." I said, ending the conversation. I then turned and walked away, not wanting to hear another word on the matter.
When I finally got to my room, I sat on the bed.
Momentarily allowing a feeling to wash over me. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew that it needed to dissipate fast. just lost my mate and I did NOT want another. So, why did everything about this man pull me in?
'It's his power he radiates. It's the confidence he shines. And maybe a little bit of the darkness he shows! Gemma said, naming reasons to be attracted to someone you definitely shouldn't be attracted to.
'It's just something she-wolves can't resist! She then said when I didn't respond.
'I will not take another mate.'
I'm not saying take him as a chosen mate. But we hadn't you know, frid, in eight months. I'm no celibate wolf. I have needs. Needs he can satisfy with ease!
I may have just officially lost my mate, but I was all alone long before he actually died.
I pushed Gemma's pervy thoughts out of my head as my hand slid down into my pocket. Cusping the little glass vial that Sibil had given me. I slowly pulled it out to take a closer look.
"I'm sorry. You both deserved so much more than this life offered you." I whispered to Kingston as my lips placed a soft kiss on the cold glass. "You're free now, go be with the Moon Goddess in glory." I then said as I released his soul from being trapped.
The beautiful white coated wolf spirit swirled around me, bringing tears to my eyes. I reached out to touch him but all I could feel was the air I had moved around. He attempted to lick my face before his eyes shot to the window. He was looking at the moon set high in the sky.
It was in the dead of the night, around 4am. They say this time of night is when spirits were most active. My heart slightly twinged at the thought that Ezra's spirit hadn't come to visit me. I knew that he would lose his memory when his wolf was taken. But did that also mean he still wouldn't remember me even after death?
"I'll love you forever." I whispered as I opened the window releasing his soul.
He swirled around me once again before his figure turned cloudy and it floated to the sky.
"You're free my love. Rest easy now."
I watched the moon shine brighter than before as Kingston's soul became one with it.
I wasn't sure how long I had stared at the sky, but it must've been a while because the moon slowly set as the sun peeked over the horizon.
He was free, and as much as I wished I could've kept him for myself, I knew that he deserved to be where his soul belonged.
'To bad he couldn't go back to his human body' Gemma said with a saddened voice.
'There was no way for him to reunite with Ezra. By now, his body has become one with the ground. Ezra is gone!
My heart felt like it was in my throat with every horrying word. But we had to face the truth. Ezra was gone, and he wasn't coming back. I had to move on. I had to let go. It was a losing battle that I wasn't sure I'd ever win because I would forever long for my mate. But at some point, I would have to move on. But how could I let go of a love that consumed me whole?
