Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1013: Confronting each other face to face
Eloise knew they must be talking business, so she had the good sense to go back to her room first.
Hector and Edgar came into the study.
Once inside, Edgar spoke up and said, "Winchell admitted that Arlice had asked him to declare the herbs for export."
Hector was a little surprised, "Admitting it so quickly?"
"Well." Edgar nodded, "In the end Winchell was a selfish man who gave everything away to save himself."
"So what are you going to do next?" Hector asked.
Edgar pondered for a moment, "I'd like to confront Arlice directly in person."
"Are you sure he'll admit to what he's done?"
"Not sure."
Arlice has had a lot on his mind since he was a child, and he's smart enough. It will take a lot of work to get him to admit it, I'm afraid.
The expected answer, Hector's mouth curved in a plausible way, "Did you catch the one who injected the poison?"
"Not yet. But the police have a lead and should have the man in custody soon."
Hector thought about it and said, "Just do what you want, confront Arlice directly in person. He'll be dead set on denying it when the time comes, and don't worry, we can wait for the police to catch the man and have another confrontation." "And what if he still won't admit it?" Edgar asked.
"Then I'll be the one to step in. He was the one who pulled the strings in the first place with SA Group, and I don't think he'll be able to weasel his way out of things being unrelated to him then."
In fact, if he had stepped in at the beginning, perhaps things could have been resolved quickly.
But in order to exercise Edgar's abilities, he chose to let Edgar handle it on his own.
Edgar nodded, "Okay then, I'll bring the recording to Arlice tomorrow."
"Talk to me again if there's anything going on." Hector patted him on the shoulder.
"Good."
Hector turned and went out of the study, leaving Edgar alone.
When he returned to the room, Eloise happened to come out of the bathroom and, seeing him enter, asked in passing, "Finished talking?" "Hmm."
Hector walked over to her and naturally took the towel she was holding and wiped her hair.
"Is this about the herbs?" Eloise asked again.
"Hmm."
Another monosyllable.
Eloise turned her head and looked at him poutingly, "Is there only one 'um' in reply?"
Hector dropped his hand and a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips, "What do you want to hear?"
"I want to know how the warehouse fire is going, has evidence been found to prove that Arlice did it?"
"There is evidence of it, but not enough."
Eloise was puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"The man who helped Arlice declare the herbs for export has been found and has admitted that Arlice asked him to make the declaration." "Really?" Eloise got a little excited.
"Arlice won't admit it." Hector said, "He'll bite the bullet and say it's got nothing to do with him."
Eloise slumped her shoulders and sighed, "Happy for nothing."
Hector couldn't help but laugh at her disappointment, "Well, it's not something you should worry about. edgar will take care of it."
"Of course I trust my cousin, it's just that the longer this drags on, the worse it will be for him." Eloise is mainly afraid that the board won't give him enough time. When the time comes, Arlice will surely take advantage of the opportunity to fall on his sword, and then his cousin will be in big trouble.
"Aren't I still here?" Hector continued to rub her hair, "I'll step in to help Edgar afterwards."
Once she heard that he was going to step in and help, Eloise was now relieved.
"It's good to have you." She tilted her little face and arched her eyebrows in a smile.
Hector's heart rippled and he couldn't help but lower his head and give her a peck on the lips, "I'll always be there."
Eloise's face burst into a happy, sweet smile and she reached out to hug her.
...
Next day.
Unaware that Winchell has been brought back to the country by Ivor, Arlice enters his office in his usual happy mood.
Instead, he didn't realise that someone was already waiting for him in his office.
"What are you doing here?" Arlice glared at Edgar, who was sitting on the couch.
Edgar slowly stood up, turned around and curled his lips, "Cousin, I'm ahead of you today."
Arlice walked over and placed his briefcase on his desk before asking unhurriedly, "What are you doing in my place, don't you know you can't just enter someone's office without permission?" He was visibly angry.
"Sorry, it slipped my mind." Edgar's apology was not at all sincere.
Arlice took a deep breath, suppressed the anger in his heart and asked, "Go ahead, what is it you want?"
"I just have something I want you to hear, to see if you can hear who he is?"
Arlice frowned, "What's that?"
Edgar smiled as he pulled a recorder from his trouser pocket and pressed play as Winchell's voice rang through the office.
"It was Farabee who came to me and said he wanted me to do him a favour..."
Arlice's face changed as soon as Winchell's voice came out.
He looked at Arlice incredulously, how did he have Winchell's recording?
Isn't Winchell abroad?
Is...
Edgar's mouth maintained an upward curve at all times as he watched Arlice silently, taking in all the changes in his expression. "Yes, those herbs are from Arlice."
Hearing this, Edgar switched off the recorder and gazed deeply at the blushing Arlice, "Cousin, did you hear who it was?"
Arlice's eyes drifted, "I can't hear it, and I don't know it."
"Oh?" Edgar raised an eyebrow, "Didn't he say he was your cousin's uncle?"
Arlice sneered, "Just because he says it's my cousin's uncle, does it have to be true, who knows if it's just some random guy you've found to pretend to be?"
That he would be sophomoric was to be expected.
Edgar said unhurriedly, "Lobby, if you don't admit he's your cousin, why don't I ask Ivor to bring the man in and you guys identify yourselves?"
"He's abroad..."
Just uttered, Arlice was so chagrined that he wanted to slap himself.
Isn't that the same as admitting it?
Edgar burst out laughing, "So Lobby knows he's abroad too. But Ivor has taken him back home yesterday."
Arlice's face was taut and silent.
"How about, do you guys want to meet and acknowledge each other?" Edgar asked.
Arlice clenched his fists, a face as gloomy as ink.
It was only after a long time that he spoke, "Edgar, what do you mean by that? You should know that no one can remove herbs from the warehouse without your permission, so how can they be mine?" Edgar nodded, "You're right, indeed. But it's not impossible to get your hands on the herbs if you bribe the employees who guard the warehouse."
"What are you babbling about?" Arlice rebuked angrily, "Who have I bribed? Don't you talk nonsense!"
