Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1031: Sidetracking

Edgar hadn't expected to meet Earlene at the dinner party.

Both froze at the sight of each other.

Edgar was the first to react with a gentle smile, "Such a coincidence."

Earlene returned the smile, "It is quite a coincidence."

"Did you come alone?" Edgar asked, seeing no one else around her.

"No, here with my brother."

Edgar nodded, and after a few seconds of contemplation, he changed the subject, "Can we talk for a moment?"

Perhaps fearing that she would refuse, he added, "These parties are so boring and I'm a bit tired today and don't want to socialise, so..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but Earlene understood what he meant, it was just to ask her to be a shield.

It was just as well that Earlene was bored, although she knew all the people here, her friendship was still shallow, and she, like Edgar, did not want to socialize. When she didn't answer, Edgar thought it was over and was a little disappointed.

Just then, she nodded, "Yes."

Edgar looked pleased and said, "Then let's talk over there."

He pointed to the corner not far away, where the lounge area was set up with couches and snacks and fruit.

"Let's go."

Earlene took the lead and walked over.

Edgar hurried to follow.

Rawlins saw them walking backwards and forwards towards the corner and his brow furrowed fiercely, what were the two of them doing?

Recently, he had heard that Edgar was pursuing Earlene.

Suddenly, his pupils fluttered, had Earlene already said yes to Edgar?

At the thought of this, he felt a pang of annoyance and subconsciously lifted his foot to walk over.

"Mr Rawlins, it's been a long time."

A sudden voice stopped him in his tracks and he turned around to see his partner whom he hadn't seen for a long time.

He looked again in Earlene's direction and had no choice but to retract his foot and put a smile back on his face, "Long time no see."

As Edgar and Earlene sat down, in stark contrast to the buzz of the dinner, it was quiet and a little awkward as neither of them spoke.

"Ahem." Edgar coughed softly, suppressing the excitement in his heart and trying to remain calm to break the silence, "I didn't expect you to come today."

It was indeed a surprise to him, but it was also a surprise.

"Had to come." Earlene said in a lighter tone.

She would have preferred to stay at the office and work late if Rawlins hadn't asked her to.

"Why?" Edgar asked suspiciously.

"Because of a client." Earlene turned her head to look at him, a helpless smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

Edgar smiled, "Understood understood."

After that, there was silence again.

Edgar takes a sip of his drink and speaks up, "How come you haven't asked Eloise out for the past few days?"

At the mention of Eloise, a strange light flashed under Earlene's eyes and she laughed lightly, "She's not well, so I can't ask her out."

"That's true." Edgar nodded, "But I Hector is with her these days, and the two of them will go out for a walk, otherwise with Eloise's personality, she would be bored out of her mind." "Mr Hector really loves his wife." Earlene tilted her head back and sipped her wine, swallowing down the astringency that had risen to her throat in one smooth motion.

"Well..." Edgar weighed his words, "Eloise is the only one I see in Hector's eyes, of course he loves her."

"Mr Edgar," Earlene turned her head and stared at him, "do you think the two of them are right for each other?"

Edgar frowned, "Why do you ask?"

"Why?" Earlene lowered her head and smiled, "I just feel sorry for Mr Hector, what a wonderful man he is, he should be calling the shots in the mall and now he's stuck with his wife."

A hint of meaningful emotion crossed the bottom of Edgar's eyes and he smiled, "I don't think he feels sorry for him, he loves Eloise, so he would do anything for her willingly." Love?

Earlene's grip on his glass subconsciously tightened, but he could choose to love a woman who could stand alongside him rather than one who held him back.

Edgar gave her a sidelong glance and raised an eyebrow, "Don't you envy their relationship?"

"Hmm?" Earlene looked up at him.

"I mean do you envy their relationship?"

Earlene smiled, "Envious."

Rather than envy, she was jealous.

She was jealous of Eloise, of the fact that she could have such a good and wonderful man.

"So don't you want a man who would do anything for you willingly?"

Edgar asked this with a look of vague anticipation in his features.

Earlene frowned slightly, "Mr Edgar, as I said, I don't like you. So there is no need for you to sidetrack me in such a way as to ask what I mean."

The mind was read.

Edgar smiled awkwardly, "I'm not trying to side-step you, I genuinely liked you from the first moment I saw you."

Earlene laughed softly, "There are many people who like me, do I have to respond to each and every one of them?" "That's not what I meant." Edgar panicked, "I just wanted to tell you that I really like you."

"Thanks." Earlene smiled at him, "But I already have someone I like."

"I know." Edgar said, "And I know who you like."

Earlene's eyes widened in surprise, "You ..."

Edgar moved his lips and in the end, instead of saying who that person was, he said, "You and he are no longer possible."

Those words hit Earlene's heart like a heavy punch, she took a deep breath and did not want to say anything to deny it, only said in an indifferent tone, "It doesn't matter, it's enough that I like him." "Why do you have to be so silly? There are so many good men in this world, why do you like him?" Edgar really couldn't understand her.

A relationship that was completely impossible really wasn't worth her holding on to.

"Because it's him." Earlene stood up, "Thank you for chatting with me, we'll meet again sometime."

"Earlene," Edgar got up and gazed at her deeply, "I wish you wouldn't bother them."

His saying that made Earlene feel a little uncomfortable inside and she snorted, "Am I that kind of person in your eyes?"

"No, that's not what I meant."

Edgar tried to explain, but Earlene stopped him, "No more. Don't worry, I won't bother them."

Edgar didn't know what to say and thought about it, but finally just uttered, "Thank you."

Earlene gave him a look and turned to stride away.

Looking at her slender back, Edgar sighed in frustration; he really was too stupid to screw things up every time.

Still, his message had got through and I'm sure Earlene would take note.

Just because he liked her, it didn't mean she could ruin someone's relationship.

Thinking of this, he heaved another sigh, how could his own feelings be so difficult?
