Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1054: Another failure

When he got home in the evening, Edgar gave the results of today's board meeting and the others were shocked. "How could this happen?"

Eloise was the one who couldn't understand it the most, because she knew from the beginning that it was Arlice's doing, but how did it come to... Arlice was fine at all?

"I underestimated Arlice," Edgar said, a little crestfallen.

If he'd known Arlice was going to blame everything on his dad, he should have asked for Hector's help.

"You did underestimate him." Baggott said, "Arlice is a clever boy I have to say, he knows how to catch Mr Cranshaw trying to save the Khan family's face before he gets his dad to admit everything." Eloise frowned, "That's so ..."

That word was not even good enough for her to say.

Seeing her son deflate a little, Baggott patted him on the shoulder and reassured him, "You handled this well, the outcome wasn't very satisfying but you did right by all the directors, take care of yourself in the future and don't let Arlice count you out again."

Edgar nodded, "I'll take care of it."

"Yes, cousin, you've actually done really well. I'm sure Grandpa will compliment you when he replaces out." Eloise also spoke out in reassurance.

Edgar was embarrassed by this comment, "It's not really as good as you guys say."

"No, in my eyes and in the eyes of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, it's that good." Eloise said with a serious look on her face. "Eloise is right, in my eyes and your dad's, you're doing great." Brimlad looked at Edgar with a smile and a thumbs up.

With their compliments, Edgar was always in a much better mood and he smiled, saying, "I'll try to do better in the future then." Eloise clenched her fist, "Go for it, cousin."

Edgar smiled, "Thanks for the encouragement."

"Brat, don't get so caught up in your work that you forget to look for a date." Brimlad warned him with a deliberate scowl.

Edgar grimaced, helplessly, "Mum, it would have to be the right person, wouldn't it?"

"Earlene would be good."

At the mention of Earlene, Brimlad could not hide a look of satisfaction and affection.

Edgar and Eloise looked at each other, both with hopelessness written all over their faces.

"Mum, Earlene is nice, but she doesn't like me, so get over it, will you?"

Edgar put it bluntly, saving her the disappointment of having higher hopes then.

To which Brimlad didn't take it personally, "They don't like you now, that's why you have to try, I'm sure my son is so good, she'll like you." Was he?

Edgar looked down, a bitter smile spreading at the corners of his mouth.

It was a pity that people liked men who were better than him.

Eloise looked at Edgar and sighed inwardly. It was fine not knowing that Earlene liked Hector, but now that she knew, it was quite cruel to him. "Auntie, just don't pressure your cousin, you can't say anything about relationships."

"That's right, don't pressure the boy." Baggott chimed in from the sidelines

When they all spoke in Edgar's favour, Brimlad gave her husband a sour look, "Am I putting pressure on him? He's too old to think about it." Baggott didn't dare to say anything else and went to the living room to watch TV.

"Okay, Auntie, stop it. I'm so hungry..." Eloise said accusingly, rubbing her stomach.

Knowing that she was changing the subject, Brimlad laughed helplessly, "You girl!" Eloise spat out her tongue, "I'm really hungry."

"Okay, got it."

Brimlad smiled and shook his head before turning to the kitchen to get the maids ready to start dinner.

"Don't overthink it, cousin, it's better to let things go with the flow in relationships."

Eloise looked at Edgar with his head still bowed and couldn't help but speak up to comfort him.

"Eloise," Edgar lifted his head.

"Hmm?"

"Why do you think she's just so persistent? Knowing it's impossible but still holding on." Edgar smiled bitterly.

Eloise couldn't help but laugh, "Don't you think you're asking me that question a bit too much, cousin?"

It was her husband that Earlene liked.

It was like a sand had flown into her eye, diaphragmatically unpleasant.

"I'm sorry." Edgar apologised.

"You don't have to apologise, cousin, I was just saying." Eloise took a deep breath and confessed, "Actually, I'd like to know why she's so obsessed." She thought hard, "Maybe it's because Hector is so good that she can't see anyone else."

After saying that, she realised that something was wrong and hastily added, "Cousin, I'm not saying that you're not as good as Hector."

"I'm self-aware." Edgar laughed, a smile full of self-deprecation.

"You're good, it's her who doesn't have an eye for it."

With that said, Eloise couldn't help but feel more antipathy towards Earlene.

It was really quite annoying to covet someone else's husband when you obviously had such a nice person to like.

"I'm the one who's not good enough. And ..." Edgar shrugged his shoulders, "I'm going to give up." "Huh?" Eloise thought she'd heard wrong.

"You're right, relationships should be left to their own devices, you can't force them."

Although Edgar said it in a sober manner, Eloise knew that he was actually having a hard time inside. "Cousin ..."

She tried to comfort him, when suddenly Brimlad's voice came, "Come over to dinner, you guys."

Edgar smiled at her, "Don't worry, I'm fine. Come on, let's eat."

With those words, he took the lead and headed towards the dining room.

Watching his back, Eloise sighed heavily, hopefully he was really going to give up and not just talk about it.

...

Another failure.

Earlene stared at the dead mice in their containers, not a hint of expression on her exquisitely made-up face. Annoyed, she took off her gloves and tossed them aside.

The new virus was far more complicated than she had thought. Its incubation period was too short and its onset too rapid for her to be able to inject the drugs she had developed into the mice before they died. This resulted in her not being able to experiment at all to see if the drug was effective against the virus.

She had researched the drug, and if she succeeded in experimenting on the mice, then her research would be halfway successful.

"Earlene," Rawlins said as he pushed the door open and walked in.

Earlene looked at him sideways with a slight frown, "What are you doing here?"

"They said you hadn't been out of the lab all day and were afraid something had happened to you, so they asked me to come and check." Rawlins explained cautiously.

"I'm fine." Earlene got up and walked over to the sink to wash her hands.

Rawlins glanced at the dead mice and his eyes flashed with disgust, he couldn't understand how a girl like her could enjoy doing research so much.

"Is there anything else?" Earlene washed her hands and turned around, looking at him coldly.

"Just..." Rawlins hesitated, "I heard you booked a flight to Italy."
