Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1073: First Come, First Served
The days passed quietly, with Eloise spending her days at the hospital with her mother, reading at home and rarely going out. This day, Brimlad thought it was time to change the season and suggested she go to the mall to buy some new clothes.
"Auntie, I'll just go back to City J and get the clothes, so there's no need to buy new ones." Eloise politely declined Brimlad's offer.
But Brimlad wouldn't agree, "No, even if you don't buy new clothes, you need to go out. You'll get silly if you stay at home all day, except for the hospital." Eloise smiled helplessly, "Auntie, it's not as awful as you make it out to be."
"Whether it is or not, you have to come out with me today.
Eloise couldn't resist Brimlad, so she went to the mall with her.
The driver dropped them off outside the mall and went back.
"Come on, let's go for a walk."
Brimlad took Eloise's hand and walked to the mall, chanting as he went, "Girls need to dress up more, otherwise they'll be so good looking for nothing." Eloise listened quietly, a faint smile on her lips and a warm feeling in her heart.
Brimlad took Eloise straight to her usual counter, where the shop assistant was already familiar with her and greeted her warmly as soon as she saw her.
"Mrs. Brimlad, what are you doing here today?"
Brimlad looked around the entire counter before turning her attention to the shop assistant, "Have you seen any new arrivals recently?"
The shop assistant immediately nodded, "Yes. We have some new dresses today, please follow me."
The shop assistant led them to the new products section and took a soft yellow dress off the shelf, "This is by our head designer and there are only ten of them in the world." Brimlad looked at it and turned to Eloise, "You go and try it on."
"Me?" Eloise hesitated, there were only ten pieces in the world, how expensive would that be.
"Don't like it?" Brimlad asked.
"No, I just think..." Eloise was embarrassed to say she was afraid it was too expensive.
But Brimlad saw right away what she was thinking, "Go ahead and try it on, it looks good and you're afraid it's expensive?"
And that was true.
Eloise took the dress and went into the fitting room, while Brimlad picked out a few more pieces for the shop assistant to take.
After a while, the curtain of the fitting room opened and Eloise came out, changed into her dress.
Brimlad instantly lit up and said, "It looks good."
"Does it?" Eloise walked herself over to the mirror and looked left and right.
She was already fair-skinned, and the soft yellow colour set off her skin even more, and with the fit, it looked as if it had been made for her, showing off her great figure. Eloise was impressed and she turned to the shop assistant and said, "I'll take this one."
At the same time as she did, another voice rang out.
She looked over at the voice and saw a very young girl.
The two looked at each other and the girl came over, "I'll take this dress on you."
Eloise frowned, "No, I saw this dress first, how come you want it?"
"I like it." The girl's attitude was insistent, as if she was talking about something perfectly normal.
Eloise curled her lips in a smile, "This young lady, first come, first served, you understand, don't you?" "Did you pay?" The girl asked.
"No."
"That's not right, it's not yours yet if you haven't paid for it, and I have the right to buy it, don't I?"
"I..." Eloise was gagged.
Brimlad came over and looked the girl up and down, smiling, "I don't see you as someone who would wear such an expensive dress."
A flash of discomfort crossed the girl's face, "Is there a conflict between my wearing or not wearing such an expensive dress, and my wanting to buy it?"
"There is no conflict. But she tried it on first, so you can't grab it, can you?"
Brimlad turned to the shop assistant and asked, "Is this dress still available?"
The shop assistant gave an apologetic smile, "Mrs Fang, I'm sorry, this is the only dress we have in the counter."
Only one.
Eloise really liked the dress, but didn't want to compete with anyone, so she simply said, "Forget it, I don't want this dress."
The girl didn't seem to expect her to be so forthcoming and was stunned, but quickly responded with a faint "thank you". Eloise smiled lightly, "You're welcome, you like it better than I do."
The girl finally smiled a little.
Eloise went to the fitting room and changed out of the dress and handed it to the shop assistant.
The girl nodded at her and let the clerk take her to the checkout without even trying on the dress.
Who knows, the girl tried a few cards but couldn't manage to pay.
"Miss, is the limit on your card not enough?" The shop assistant asked politely.
The girl bit her lip and her originally white face turned red.
Seeing this, the shop assistant instantly changed her face and her tone became nonchalant, "Miss, do you still want this dress?"
"I ..."
The girl looked at the skirt, her hands slowly clenched, she didn't expect a skirt to be that expensive.
"Do you want it or not?" The shop assistant repeated, her expression becoming even more impatient.
"I want it, but ..."
"But there's no money, is there?" The clerk interrupted her, "Since you don't have any money, don't come into a shop like this, it's hurting our business, you know?"
The sarcasm in the clerk's words embarrassed the girl and she whispered "I'm sorry".
If she hadn't seen that dress by chance, she wouldn't have walked in.
It had been designed by her sister and she wanted to buy it back.
The shop assistant's voice wasn't too loud, and Eloise, who was picking out another style, subconsciously looked back to see the girl standing in front of the till with her head down, and the feeling of embarrassment was inexplicably familiar. It was just like... herself back in the day when she had no money.
With a heartbeat, she lifted a step and walked over to her.
"Eloise, what do you want?"
Brimlad asked suspiciously when he saw her walking towards the till.
Eloise turned back and gave her a reassuring smile before walking straight up to the girl, pulling out her own card and handing it to the clerk, "Swipe mine."
At that, the girl looked up, surprised.
She smiled faintly, "For the sake that we two are still related, I'll give you this dress."
"No need." The girl shook her head as she looked at the dress and smiled bitterly, "I really can't, I don't want it."
"Why not?" Eloise wondered, "Don't you like it?"
"Yes, but I can't afford it." The girl shrugged her shoulders, her white face all self-deprecating.
"Then why did you just insist on it?" Eloise really didn't understand what she was thinking, knowing that she couldn't afford it, yet she was still so insistent.
The girl's eyes fluttered and she didn't answer her question, only saying, "Thank you for your kindness."
With that, she ran out the door, right into the path of Edgar who walked in.
"Careful." Edgar held her up.
She looked up at him in the process.
The two eyes met.
Edgar raised his eyebrows in surprise, "It's you."
The girl didn't recognise him and ran away with a hasty apology.
Edgar turned his head to look in the direction she had run off, his brow furrowing slightly.
"Cousin."
Eloise's voice pulled him back to his senses and he turned his head to meet Eloise's smiling eyes.
"You know her?" Eloise asked.
Edgar nodded, "Well, I met her earlier when I called a valet."
Eloise frowned, "She's a girl doing a valet?"
"Yeah."
A girl that young would be working as a valet, she must be having trouble making ends meet, but how could she walk into a shop like this and say she wanted to buy that expensive dress? Eloise thought about it and suddenly laughed, when had she ever been so attached to a stranger?
"Have you bought it yet?" Edgar asked.
Eloise shook her head, "No, still trying it on. You might want to wait."
Edgar smiled, "Since I'm here, I'll wait."
