Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1125: This is too small for the family
"For me?"
Elva was a bit incredulous as she cast a questioning glance at Edgar, "It's really for me?"
Edgar nodded, "Yeah."
Once the answer was confirmed, Elva's face turned cloudy and a smile spread across her face, "Edgar, you should have said so earlier, so people misunderstood you." She glared at Edgar with a feigned complaint.
Edgar reluctantly tugged at her mouth.
Who was in the mood to explain herself when she came up with the word "vixen"?
"Take the necklace off." Elva looked at Edwina.
The commanding tone made Edwina a little uncomfortable, but she said nothing and handed it to her.
Elva scrutinised the necklace in her hand, her eyebrows knitted together and she said nonchalantly, "This is too petty."
"I don't like it." She threw the necklace at Edwina.
Edwina was frightened to catch it, she couldn't afford to pay for it if it broke.
Edgar looked at Ainsley, no trace of expression on his clean face, and asked nonchalantly, "So what do you like?"
"I like ...."
Ainsley leaned closer to the counter and picked it out for herself.
Edwina lowered her eyes to the four-leaf clover necklace in her hand and the corners of her mouth pursed.
It was actually a really pretty necklace.
However, she couldn't afford it herself.
She took a deep breath and handed the necklace back to the shop assistant.
Edgar glanced at her, looking thoughtful.
"I want this one."
The necklace Ainsley had chosen had a large main diamond on the pendant, surrounded by fine diamonds, and it was particularly dazzling in the light. Perhaps this was what she called atmospheric.
"Edgar, you put it on for me." Ainsley took the necklace from the shop assistant and turned her head to hand it to Edgar.
Edgar's brow furrowed ever so slightly as he took the necklace without moving.
Ainsley's exquisitely made-up face immediately filled with a sweet smile.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman, they were a perfect match.
Edwina suddenly felt a little redundant, and she lowered her head, raising her hand to clutch her other arm, her fingertips pushing hard, trying to suppress the astringent feeling in her heart. "There."
As soon as the necklace was on, Edgar quickly stepped back.
As Ainsley turned to look in the mirror, he looked towards Edwina, only to see her head bowed, looking slightly helpless.
He moved his mouth and was about to speak.
"Edgar, does it look good?" Ainsley suddenly turned and looked at him expectantly.
Edgar froze, then nodded, "It looks good."
"Then get this one."
"Good."
When the shop assistant had finished wrapping the necklace, Edgar casually handed it to Ainsley, "It's for you."
Ainsley wrinkled her nose, "I don't want it. I want you to give it to me on my birthday, in front of everyone." Was it a present she wanted?
It was a necklace, she could afford it herself.
What she wanted was for everyone to know that he cared enough about her to give her a gift.
Edgar didn't say anything and let the shop assistant use to load it up.
"Edgar, shop with me again later, will you?" Ainsley took his arm affectionately.
Edgar didn't answer, but subconsciously looked at Edwina.
Edwina's heart skipped a beat when she met his dark eyes.
She hurriedly averted her eyes, smiled and said, "You guys go ahead, I'll go home first."
After saying that, she simply turned around and left.
"Edwina."
Edgar was about to go after her.
"Edgar," Ainsley hurriedly grabbed him, "If she wants to go home let her go home, we two take our time to stroll."
She had been worried that the woman would be shameless and stay put.
She hadn't thought she'd have the sense to do it.
Edgar was inexplicably annoyed, he pushed Ainsley's hand away and his tone was cold, "I have things to do, you can do your own shopping."
"I don't want to, I want you to stay with me." Ainsley regained her grip on his hand and wouldn't let him go.
Edgar took a deep breath, pushed down the irritation inside and said patiently, "If you want to see me at your birthday party, then let go." Ainsley frowned, "Are you threatening me?"
"No, I'm just stating a fact."
Ainsley glared at him, her face full of resignation.
Edgar looked faint, unable to see what was really on his mind.
Still, Ainsley compromised.
She let go of her hand, "Forget it, I'll shop alone."
Edgar didn't say anything more, turned around and walked away.
Ainsley stomped her feet where she stood, furious.
If he wasn't the man she liked, she would have kicked him far away.
...
Edgar ran out of the mall and looked around, but there was no sign of Edwina.
He scratched his hair in frustration; she had come to help him pick out a gift with the best of intentions, but he hadn't expected to put her through that kind of aggravation. He pulled out his phone and dialled her number.
Edwina sat under the bus shelter, staring blankly at a point ahead of her, not a hint of expression on her pretty little face.
Suddenly, the phone rings loudly.
She is jolted awake and hurriedly fishes it out of her bag.
It was Edgar.
She bit her lip and stared straight at the number she had memorised on the screen.
No answer.
Edgar took the phone off, his brow furrowed in anger.
Never mind, I'll apologise to her in person when I get the chance.
He sighed helplessly, put the phone back in his pocket and looked around before turning to leave.
Edwina didn't answer the phone, but the moment the ringing stopped, she immediately regretted it.
But it was too late.
She expected him to call again, but no.
Or should she call back?
Just as she was hesitating, the phone suddenly rang again.
She almost dropped the phone in a fit of excitement, but her heart instantly dropped in half when she saw the caller alert. "Miss. Eloise," she picked up.
"Edwina, how are you guys doing? Have you picked out your presents yet?"
Eloise's soft voice came from the other side of the phone and her eyes fluttered indefinitely.
She hurriedly took a deep breath and forced the tears back.
"Edwina, are you there?" Not hearing her answer, Eloise couldn't help but ask out loud.
"Miss. Eloise, I'm listening. The present has been chosen."
"That's good. Are you with my cousin now?"
"No. He's walking Miss. Ainsley around the mall."
"Miss. Ainsley?"
"Well, we happened to run into Miss. Ainsley while we were picking out a present."
"Such a coincidence, so where are you now?" Eloise heard the sound of a car.
Edwina looked around, "I bus stop."
Eloise asked as soon as she heard it, "My cousin let you go home alone?"
"Miss. Eloise, it's okay, I'm not a child."
"No, I asked you to help him, how could he cross the river?"
Edwina was worried that she was angry and hurried to explain, "Miss. Eloise, I'm fine, you shouldn't blame Mr Farabee."
At that moment, she saw the bus coming and hurriedly said to Eloise on the other side of the phone, "Miss. Eloise, the bus is coming, I won't talk to you anymore. Bye." Without waiting for Eloise to respond, she hung up the phone straight away and got on the bus.
