Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1183: Finding a man who listens
Edwina did not expect to meet Edgar in such a situation.
She took Bonnie to a bookstore in the mall, bought two books and planned to leave.
When the lift doors opened, she saw Edgar and Elva.
As soon as Elva saw her, she took Edgar's arm and tilted her chin up, looking at her smugly.
Edwina ignored the sourness in her heart, nodded at them and led Bonnie inside.
"Hello Uncle Edgar." Bonnie greeted Edgar politely.
Edgar smiled at him, "Hello."
His eyes fell on Edwina, who had her back to him, and a hint of imperceptible emotion flashed under her eyes.
Elva looked at the back of Edwina's head, the corners of her mouth curled up and deliberately cupped her voice as she daintily said, "Edgar, what are we going to eat later?" At the sound of this voice, Edwina's brow furrowed slightly.
"Whatever."
A salty reply, one could hear that Edgar was not in a high spirits.
Elva beamed, grumbling disgruntledly, "That's too perfunctory of you, you have to decide what to eat later."
Edgar gave her a sidelong glance, his face a little impatient, "You decide, I don't know what to eat."
Why was he still like this?
He didn't give a damn about her!
Elva was getting a little angry and was about to snap, but when her eyes swept over to Edwina, a sharp look appeared in them.
"By the way, doesn't Miss. Edwina work in a restaurant? She must know where there's good food."
Hearing Elva mention herself, Edwina's back subconsciously stiffened, and the hand holding Bonnie unconsciously tightened. Bonnie turned her head and gave her a quizzical look.
"Miss. Edwina, why don't you help us decide?"
Edwina took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, Miss Ainsley, but this is a private matter, and it's not for me, a stranger, to decide for you." At the word 'stranger', Edgar's eyes flashed slightly.
"You know you're a stranger too." Elva snorted, "You know better than that."
"Ding..."
The lift arrived.
As soon as the doors opened, Edwina immediately led Bonnie out and walked forward without looking back.
Her steps were fast.
Bonnie couldn't keep up and stumbled and fell.
"Bonnie!"
Edwina hurriedly stopped and knelt down to check on him.
Bonnie got up, patted himself down and looked at her in wonder, "Mummy, what's wrong with you today? Why are you walking so fast?"
"I ..."
Edwina accidentally caught a glimpse of Edgar and Elva walking by out of the corner of her eye and her heart panicked.
She retook Bonnie's hand and said, "I seem to have forgotten to turn off the water in the bathroom, we need to walk faster and hurry home before we get back late and bleed all over the house." This time, she slowed her pace so that Bonnie could keep up with herself.
But for everyone else, it was still a bit fast.
Elva looked at the large and small figures walking away, the corners of her mouth curling in triumph.
The woman had finally learnt her lesson.
Edgar looked at the figures that were already walking away, and felt something in his heart that he could not explain.
I could tell from Edwina's reaction that she was deliberately distancing herself from him.
Was it because of Thomas?
Elva turned her head and saw him staring at the direction Edwina had left, wondering what he was thinking, and became slightly upset, "What are you looking at when people are already gone?" Edgar was pulled back by her voice and twisted his head to meet her eyes that had displeasure written all over them, dropping his eyes and landing on her arm that was holding his.
"Miss. Ainsley, I'm done with the mall, I have to get back to the office." He drew back his hand.
Elva frowned, "Don't you still have to go eat with me?"
"Did I promise you that?" Edgar asked instead of answering.
"No, but you have to me to go eat with me." Elva looked as if she was taking things for granted.
"Sorry, I don't have time." Edgar refused outright.
"Edgar!" Elva huffed, glaring at him, "I'm telling you, if you don't keep me company, I'll get mad and ignore you."
Edgar laughed, "That couldn't be better."
That would save him a lot of trouble.
He really didn't want to have too much contact with her if it wasn't to make his mother nag him a little less.
"Edgar, you're going too far!" Elva turned red with anger.
"I'm just so over the top, so Miss. Ainsley had better replace a man who listens again."
With that said, Edgar strides away, leaving Elva alone and stomping her feet in anger where she is.
"Edgar, don't you regret it, the men chasing me can line up from here to my house, I don't give a damn about you!"
Elva yelled at Edgar and then panicked when she saw that he really left without looking back, not caring about her anger and rushing after him.
"Edgar," she said as she ran to Edgar's side, "if you don't want to go eat with me, then forget it. I won't force you, but it's only for today, so don't you dare do that again."
At that, Edgar couldn't help but laugh, he stopped abruptly, turned his head and looked at Elva with amusement, "Miss. Ainsley, when you were studying, you must have been very bad at reading comprehension." "Huh?" Elva blinked blankly, not understanding what he meant.
Edgar raised an eyebrow, "What I just meant was that we don't fit."
"What's wrong with us?" Elva yelled in displeasure, "We're perfect for each other, both in terms of family and looks."
"That's what you think." Edgar raised his hand to his watch, "Miss. Ainsley, I really must get back to the office, so I won't see you off.
"Edgar!"
Elva could only watch as he left without a backward glance.
She stomped her foot reluctantly, what the hell did he mean?
If he said they weren't right for each other, was he right for that woman Edwina?
Elva's eyes widened at the thought of Edwina.
The more she thought about it, the more panicked she became.
No!
She couldn't let Edwina steal Edgar away from her.
Edgar could only belong to her.
...
When Edwards got home, he was dragged to her room by his sister Elva. "Elva, what are you doing?" Edwards looked at his sister in confusion. "Brother, this is my present for you." Elva shoved a box into his hand. Edwards couldn't believe it, "You're actually giving me a present?" "Yeah, what's wrong?"
"Nope." Edwards shook his head, "Nothing ventured, nothing stolen."
At that, Elva was instantly upset, "Brother, is that how you miss your sister?"
Edwards laughed, "I'm just surprised."
He opened the box and saw that inside was a limited edition watch and raised an eyebrow, "You've spent a lot of money on this. Tell me, is there something I can help you with?" Elva laughed dryly, "Brother, I don't have anything for you to do."
"No really?" Edwards stared at her.
Elva bristled, "Well, I do have something I need to ask you for."
