Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1209: It's Hard to Be Family
Elva didn't expect her to be so direct and was instantly annoyed, yelling, "Eloise, don't think that just because you're Edgar's cousin, I won't dare do anything to you." Eloise laughed, "That's what you really are, isn't it?"
"You!"
It was then that Elva reacted, she was deliberately provoking herself.
"Miss. Elva, don't think that by acting nice in front of me, I'll think well of you. We met for the first time and saw you for what you really are a long time ago." Eloise gave her a cold glance and turned to Edwina, "Since you like this gown, I'll give it to you."
When Edwina heard this, she shook her head busily, "No, I won't buy this one."
She wouldn't dare to accept such an expensive gift.
"Why?" Eloise frowned.
"Miss. Eloise, I appreciate your feelings, but this is too expensive, I can't take it."
Hearing Edwina's words, Elva gave a disdainful "chortle" and sneered, "If someone gives it to you, just take it. After all, there's no such thing as a shop after this."
Eloise's brow furrowed even further, "Don't listen to her. This is what I wanted to give you, it doesn't matter how much it costs."
Edwina took a deep breath and curled her lips in a smile, "Thank you, Miss. Eloise, but I really can't take it."
"But don't you like it?" Eloise just didn't want her to lose heart, it was obvious that she loved the gown on her.
"I do like it." Edwina admitted frankly, "But, like Miss. Elva said, I have to be aware that this gown is not something I can afford to wear."
With that said, without waiting for Eloise's reaction, she turned around and went into the fitting room.
Swish!
The curtain was drawn shut, blocking out everything outside.
Edwina gently stroked the gown on her body, loss written all over her clear little face.
She really liked this gown.
But-
Taking a deep breath, she tilted her face up and a bitter smile spread across the corners of her mouth.
This dress was like Edgar, not something she could afford.
...
Elva looked at Eloise, her eyes rolled and she spoke carefully, "Eloise, I just said something out of impulse, don't worry about it."
At that, Eloise gave her a sideways glance and said indifferently, "You are not enough for me to take to heart."
The implication was that she should not think of herself as too existential.
In Eloise's eyes, Elva was no better than a stranger.
A stranger, at least, she would have looked at.
But Elva, she didn't even want to look at.
Elva smiled awkwardly, "Really? That's good."
There was silence all around.
Elva's brow furrowed and she looked a little torn.
Although she didn't like Eloise either, at least she was Edgar's cousin and the wife of the Chairman of the Rogers Group, it wouldn't do her any good to offend her. It was always good for her to have one less enemy.
So she walked over to Eloise, her face covered in a smile of ingratiation, and said, "Eloise, do you have time later? How about we have lunch together?" "Not available."
The simple and sharp words were enough to show Eloise's attitude at this moment.
Elva was a little annoyed, but she didn't dare to show it on her face, so she kept her smile on, "Eloise, we'll be a family now, we have to get along well." "Family?" Eloise turned her head and sneered, "Who told you that we would be a family from now on?"
"This... this I'm getting engaged to Edgar, aren't I? Then we must be family."
"And who told you that my cousin was getting engaged to you?"
"My parents, and Edgar's parents too."
Eloise's brow furrowed, "It's a deal?"
No, if it was a deal, how could she not know about it?
Elva's eyes drifted a little, "Dang, of course it's a deal."
The truth was that the marriage had only been mentioned by both parents, not really decided upon.
But, as far as she was concerned, it was a foregone conclusion.
Seeing that she was being vain, Eloise laughed softly, "Miss. Elva, I think we're hardly a family."
"What do you mean?" Elva frowned.
"Literally." Eloise didn't want to get into that with her, "Miss. Elva, aren't you here to choose a dress? Go check it out."
"No, Eloise, what exactly did you mean by what you just said?" Elva grabbed her arm and looked as if she would not stop until she asked.
Eloise was a little impatient, but out of upbringing, she said in a soft voice, "It means that this is no longer a feudal era, that there is no point in parents arranging marriages, and that this marriage requires my cousin's own nod. And you should be clear about my cousin's impression of you."
Edwina pulled back the curtain and with a quick glance she saw that Elva's face did not look very good, her brow furrowed and she looked at Eloise in confusion.
Eloise looked self-conscious and said, "Let's go to another shop."
Elva didn't look back until Eloise and the girls had left.
Her greatest wish in life was to marry Edgar.
How could it be so difficult?
Regardless of their family and appearance, they were each other's most suitable halves.
...
"Miss. Eloise, what happened to Miss. Elva?"
Edwina asked only after they left the shop.
"Nothing much, just a slap in the face from reality." Eloise said lightly.
"She still gets slapped by reality, that can't be right."
Elva was a princess of the gentry, where was the reality for her.
Eloise read her mind and smiled lightly, "It's the reality of relationships."
At that, Edwina was stunned, "Did you say anything to her?"
"I told her that she and my cousin would hardly make a couple."
The corner of Edwina's mouth twitched, "You're just killing the heart."
"I'm teaching her to recognise the truth." Eloise curled her lips in a smile, "It seems to be working now."
She hadn't really wanted to get involved in other people's relationships, it was just the way Elva was treating Edwina that was too deceptive.
Edwina laughed and pretended to be careless, "By the way, how do you know that she and Mr. Edgar will hardly make a couple?"
"Because my cousin has someone he likes."
At these words, Edwina's footsteps gave way and her face turned a little ugly.
"You... you said Mr. Edgar has someone he likes?"
Eloise nodded her head, "Yeah."
"Is that so?" Edwina wanted to laugh but couldn't, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Is it too late for me to say?" Eloise asked instead of answering.
It was actually only after she had taken the call from her cousin that she was sure he had a crush on someone.
"It's not late, not at all."
Edwina suddenly felt a little tired and not in the mood for any more dresses.
"Miss. Eloise, why don't we go home?"
"Huh?" Eloise was surprised, "No more picking out a dress?"
"There's still a few days to go anyway, no rush."
By the look on her face she didn't look right, she seemed to be very concerned about the fact that her cousin had a crush on someone.
Eloise wanted to laugh, but didn't dare to, so she could only cough lightly to hide her laughter and try, "Do you care a lot?"
