Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1215: High on the list
The Khan Group suspended all cooperation with the Bartram family and the news was picked up by the media, which carried an overwhelming amount of coverage. There was even a scandal about Edgar and Earlene.
The media speculated that Edgar was angry at his unsuccessful courtship and suspended his partnership with the Bartram family to blackmail Earlene. The news popped up on Twitter and Edwina, who was having lunch, glanced at it, thinking it was another boring story.
But when she saw the name "Edgar", she put down her chopsticks and picked up her phone.
She opened the news and read the full story.
After reading it, Edwina had mixed feelings.
The woman in the news was someone she had seen in a financial report.
She would remember it not only because the other party was good looking, but more importantly, very good.
It turned out that Edgar and the person had such a past.
Edwina slowly put her phone down and laughed out, a smile mixed with bitterness and self-deprecation.
Yes, he was so good, he must have known women who were as good as him.
She, on the other hand, was just a waitress in a restaurant, what could she do to compare herself to others?
She took a deep breath and blinked her somewhat sour eyes, "Edwina, don't be delusional, that man is not something you can afford to climb high." "Edwina!"
A sudden weight on her shoulders and a voice that rang out above her head startled Edwina.
She hurriedly collected her thoughts and turned her head, it was her colleague Harwell.
"What are you mumbling to yourself all alone?"
Harwell asked curiously as he sat down next to her.
Edwina lowered her head and said back faintly, "Nothing much."
Harwell saw that her plate was full of vegetarian dishes and wrinkled his brow, "I thought there were meat dishes in the kitchen, why are you eating vegetarian dishes?"
"I'm on a diet." Edwina took some of the greens and put them in her mouth.
"Diet?" Harwell's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked her up and down, "You're so skinny, why do you need to lose weight? If you lose any more weight you'll be blown away by the wind!" Edwina laughed, "Isn't it the mall's anniversary in a few days? I need to be skinny to look good in a dress."
"Right." It was only when she mentioned it that Harwell remembered.
"You bought a dress?" Harwell asked.
"No, I borrowed it from someone else."
At that, Harwell sighed, "Yeah, we can't buy any nice dresses on our salaries, so I'll borrow one from the shop after work today."
Edwina smiled and said nothing more, lowering her head and eating her meal quietly.
Harwell took out his phone, not knowing what he saw, and suddenly exclaimed, "So that's him."
Edwina was taken aback and patted her chest, "Can you stop being so startled? It's scaring me to death!"
"Edwina, did he come by the shop looking for you?" Harwell held out his phone to her.
There was a picture of Edgar on it.
Edwina froze, "You've got the wrong person, haven't you?"
"There's no way I'm mistaken!" Harwell zoomed in on the picture, his eyes narrowing slightly, "He came to you that morning just after the shop opened, didn't he?" Harwell turned his head to look at her.
Edwina ducked her head sheepishly, "You really have the wrong man."
"No way!" Harwell said once more in a firm voice.
Harwell saw her head down, unwilling to admit it, so he nudged her with his elbow, "Don't hide it, you know him, but what's the point, didn't you say he was your friend?" Edwina fiddled with the rice on her plate, bit her lip and nodded vigorously, "Yes, I do know him, but only as a friend."
"That's not right." Harwell laughed out loud, then she leaned in closer and gossiped, "Since you're friends, is it true what they say on the news? Is it true that the courtship was unsuccessful?" "I ... how would I know?" Edwina oohed and aahed, "He and I are just ordinary friends, how would I know about such personal matters?"
With that, she picked up her plate and ran, not giving Harwell a chance to pursue the matter further.
Harwell looked puzzled, "Ordinary friends are ordinary friends, why get so excited?"
Edwina put her plate in the sink and couldn't help but laugh at the thought of what she had just done.
Yeah, just friends, forget about any thoughts you might have.
...
Bartram Group's stock fell steeply as a result of the Khan Group's sudden suspension, causing a lot of panic among shareholders who went to the office to question Rawlins.
"Rawlins, the old chairman put the company in your hands in the first place in the hope that you would run it well, but what's going on now? It's amazing how much the stock has dropped!"
"Yeah, Rawlins, what the hell is going on here? You've got to give us an explanation, haven't you?"
"Why has the Khan Group suddenly suspended its partnership with us? Is it true that your sister has something to do with this, as the news says?"
"If it's really related, then your sister really doesn't know what she's doing! No matter what happens, she should put the interests of the company first. Even if she doesn't like Edgar, she should still put up with it, if she doesn't tear her face off, it's us who will suffer."
"That's right, if you're in the Khan family, you should think about the Khan family, not act arbitrarily and harm everyone."
...
Rawlins was trying to think of a good explanation for what the first shareholders said, but when he heard the rest, his brow locked up and his displeasure was clearly written on his face.
"Gentlemen, this has nothing to do with my sister!" His sharp eyes swept over each shareholder one by one, "This is a matter between Edgar and me."
At this point in time, he was still speaking for Earlene.
Who made her his sister, the one he cared about and couldn't let her be hurt in the slightest.
"So what exactly is the problem you have with Edgar?" The shareholder questioned sternly.
Rawlins pondered for a moment before speaking slowly, "Whatever problem I have with him, I'll sort it out, I hope you'll give me some time." "Rawlins, time we can give you, can you promise to sort things out?"
"Yes, it's an important project with Khan Group, if this goes bad, it's a big loss, you have to sort it out."
At this remark, the others echoed.
For a moment, it was a bit noisy.
"That's enough!" Rawlins suddenly shouted, and there was instant silence all around as all the shareholders looked over towards him.
Rawlins took a deep breath, "Don't worry guys, I'll get things sorted out, if not, I'll leave of my own accord."
He was tired anyway, after carrying the burden of the Khan family for so many years, he was really tired.
Wanted to get some rest.
Not expecting such a commitment, the shareholders were shocked, saying things like, "That's not good enough" and "The Khan family can't do without you". Rawlins couldn't help but smile, "You seem to forget that the real owner of the entire Bartram family is my sister, Earlene."
"If things don't work out, I'll give her everything back."
