Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1226: You knew me before?
Edgar came downstairs, ready to pour a glass of water in the kitchen, just in time to hear a noise from the entrance hall.
He turned his head to look over, only to see Thomas walk in.
"Why are you back so late?"
Thomas thought everyone had gone to bed, but the sudden sound startled him.
"No need to be so formal." Edgar walked over to him, "Rupert said you were coming to the capital this afternoon, why are you only back now?" "Went to see a friend."
"A friend?" Edgar raised an eyebrow, "Edwina?"
"How do you know?" Thomas was amazed.
Edgar's eyes flashed slightly, "A guess."
When he came to the capital, the first thing he did was to look for Edwina, so it was clear that he was really taken with Edwina.
I wonder what Edwina is thinking again.
Thomas saw that he was a bit lost in thought, so he spoke up and asked, "What is it that you want?"
Edgar looked back and pulled the corner of his mouth gently, "Nothing. Go upstairs and get some rest."
With that, he turned and walked towards the kitchen.
Thomas shook his hand, looking a little hesitant, "Mr. Edgar."
Edgar turned back with a start, "What is it?"
Thomas stepped forward, "Can you have a drink with me?"
Edgar was slightly surprised, "A couple of drinks?"
"Um, is that okay?"
Edgar smiled, "Sure."
So the two men took their wine and glasses to the first floor terrace.
Edgar put the wine on the table and sat down, "Is something wrong with you?"
Thomas didn't rush to answer, but opened the wine, poured it into two separate glasses and handed one of them to him, "Drink."
Taking the wine, Edgar glanced up at him, the corners of his mouth curling up in a seemingly unspoken way.
Was he avoiding his own question here?
Thomas sat down in the chair on the other side and took a sip from his wine before speaking slowly, "Edgar, have you ever liked someone?" Edgar lowered his eyes and looked into his glass, "Yes."
"I have too." Thomas laughed softly and took another sip of his drink, "I confessed my love to her today."
At that, Edgar snapped his head around to look at him, asking in some disbelief, "You confessed your love to her?"
"Why are you so surprised?" Thomas wondered.
Edgar then realised that he had reacted a little too loudly and laughed softly, "No, I just thought how you acted so quickly."
"Fast?" Thomas, Edwina frowned, "Maybe I really was too eager."
Thinking of Edwina's rejection of him, he was irritated and tilted his head to finish his glass in one gulp.
Seeing this, Edgar said, "Don't drink so fast, you might get drunk."
Thomas laughed bitterly, "It's good to be drunk, you can forget the bad things."
He looked really out of sorts.
Edgar pondered for a moment and asked tentatively, "Did your confession not work out?"
Thomas paused in his pouring, then returned to normal, tugging his lips up in a self-deprecating way, "They don't like me, so of course it didn't work out." Although he had probably guessed that this would be the outcome, it was still a different feeling to actually hear it.
He actually... felt relieved.
Edgar clinked glasses with him and reassured, "Don't be down, she doesn't like you, there's always someone else who does."
"What's the point of someone else liking me, I just like her." Thomas took another sip from his glass and said with a determined look, "I'm not giving up."
The smile on Edgar's face froze for a moment, but he quickly recovered and laughed dryly, "You're very persistent."
"Not so much persistent, but she gives me a really good feeling and I don't want to just give up."
Thomas turned his head to look at him, "Mr. Edgar, if you had failed to confess your love, would you have given up?" Edgar froze, "I ..."
"I'm sure you wouldn't give up either." Thomas spoke the answer for him.
Edgar took a deep breath, "Actually it's not that I wouldn't give up, but... it depends on the person, I guess."
He paused and continued, "If the other person really doesn't like me, I won't force myself on her and will wish her happiness."
When he finished, he looked up at the dark pale sky and the corners of his mouth curved, "Her happiness is more important than my liking."
Thomas was stunned by his words and stared at him in awe.
For Thomas, he didn't want to give up a relationship easily, even if the other person didn't like him, he would replace a way to make them like him. But now, after hearing Edgar's words, he hesitated.
Perhaps Edgar was right, nothing was more important than Edwina's happiness.
"But if you want to keep going again, I'm with you." Edgar inclined his head to look at him.
Thomas looked down and laughed softly, "Actually, I can clearly feel that she doesn't like me and is unlikely to like me, so even if I continue to insist, it will have little effect." Edgar raised an eyebrow, "You're thinking of giving up?"
"It depends." Thomas took a sip of his drink and raised his eyes to the sky, "I don't want her to hate me."
He sounded a little despondent.
Edgar couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed, he had been so confident that he wouldn't give up, he hesitated at his own persuasion.
"Don't think too much about it, just let it happen." Edgar clinked his glass and tilted his head to finish it off.
Thomas lost his smile, "You're right, let it happen."
It wasn't until the early hours of the morning that the two men finished their drinks and went to their respective rooms to rest.
...
On the first night with the Bartram family, Eloise lies in bed, unable to sleep.
She got up and gingerly went out into the backyard and sat down on a bench.
It was late at night and everything was silent, except for the dim light from a few street lamps, which added a certain air of mystery to the backyard.
She turned her head to look at the first floor of the villa, a hint of tenderness in her eyes, Hector should be sleeping soundly at this moment.
I really missed his embrace.
When she closed her eyes, it was as if she could smell his fresh scent.
I frowned and sniffed, but no, it felt like I could really smell it.
And there was a faint hint of medicine in the mix.
She opened her eyes and met a pair of smiling eyes, which almost made her scream.
He covered her mouth just in time and whispered in her ear, "Don't shout, it would be bad if you woke Earlene."
Eloise pushed his hand away and asked urgently, "What are you doing here?"
The man was no other than Hector.
He scratched his head and smiled shyly, "I couldn't sleep."
Eloise frowned, "Insomnia?"
"Sort of. When I close my eyes, my mind is all over the place and I can't sleep." Hector leaned back in his chair and looked up at the sky, sighing heavily, "I used to be a good sleeper, I don't know what happened." "What about your sleep used to be good?" Eloise forgot that she was now Elo and subconsciously blurted out.
Hector turned his head to look at her with a suspicious look on his face, "You used to know me?"
