Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1281: Never Knew Him
At exactly 10am, Khan Group released a statement to explain and deal with the online video.
"The content of the video is true, but it is just a misunderstanding. Ms. Edwina did not break the relationship between Mr. Edgar and Mrs. Elva ..." Edwina read the statement word by word and her voice came to a screeching halt.
Her heart thumped, what did it mean that she had not broken Edgar and Elva's relationship?
The more she thought about it, the more wrong it became. The statement did take her out, but it also admitted that Edgar and Elva were in a relationship. Edwina turned off her phone and couldn't help but laugh, a bitter and sarcastic laugh.
Did this statement mean something to Edgar?
Hadn't he said he would settle the union as soon as possible? How else can you settle it when you've admitted to having feelings... What exactly did he mean?
For a moment, Edwina felt that she had never known Edgar before.
At that moment, the phone suddenly rang.
She thought it would be Edgar calling to explain to her, but when she looked, it was not him, but Edwards.
When she picked up the phone, Edwards' concerned voice came through, "Edwina, are you all right?"
Edwina's eyes dropped despondently, "What can I do?"
Edwards was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "I saw the video and the statement, let me apologise to you for my sister, I'm sorry." Edwina's eyes were red and she pursed her lips, afraid she would burst into tears.
"Because of this incident, my parents are angry and may put pressure on the Khan family, so don't think too much about what the statement says." At that, Edwina frowned, "You mean it wasn't Edgar's intention?"
"I suppose so." Edwards sighed, "I guess he's pretty stressed out right now."
Because of Edwards' words, the uneasiness in Edwina's heart eased a lot.
She should have trusted Edgar, she shouldn't have doubted him.
"Mr. Edwards, thank you."
Edwards laughed lightly, "You're welcome. If Elva ever comes after you again in the future, you can come to me and I'll talk her into it." "Yeah."
The two of them chatted briefly and hung up the phone.
Edwina breathed a long sigh of relief and stared at Edgar's number on her phone screen, debating whether to call and see what was going on. But she was afraid of disturbing him at work.
In the end she gave up and thought she would call him later in the evening.
...
Khan Group.
Edgar stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, his handsome face tightly tensed, his eyes as deep as ink, unable to see his emotions at the moment. Knock, knock!
There was a short knock on the door in the quiet office.
Edgar said in a deep voice, "Come in."
Ivor opened the door and walked straight to him, "President, the statement has been sent out as you instructed."
Edgar said, "Yes," and said nothing more.
I could sense that he was not in a good mood and Ivor did not want to disturb him, so he turned around and went out.
After a few steps, he suddenly thought of something and turned around to remind him, "President, I think it might be better if you call Miss Edwina and explain to her." With that, Ivor strides off.
As he closed the door behind him, he took one more look at the figure in front of the floor-to-ceiling window and sighed softly.
I don't know if it was just his own illusion, but the president's back was surprisingly lonely.
After Ivor had gone out, Edgar stood for almost half an hour more before turning back to his desk and sitting down.
He went online and read the comments from the internet after the statement was sent out.
Most of the comments were good, with a small minority expressing disbelief and calling Edwina names.
But the video thing should be settled.
Just how was he going to ask Edwina to break up with him?
At lunchtime, Elva arrives.
Ignoring Ivor, she pushed open the door of the president's office and walked in.
"Edgar."
Edgar looked up and saw Elva running towards him, he got up and said, "Ivor, what are you doing? Why didn't you stop her?" Ivor's face was bitter, "President, I..."
He wanted to stop her, but he couldn't!
Elva glared at Ivor and raised her chin arrogantly, "I am the future president and wife of the Khan Group, how dare he stop me."
"You can't just come in here, get out!" Edgar scolded in a stern voice with a cold face.
Elva didn't think so, "I'm your fiancée, what's wrong with not coming in? What's more, I'm here to bring you lunch."
She put the thermos lunchbox she was carrying on the table, "I made this myself, I've been cooking it all morning, so you'll want to eat it."
Behind her, Ivor sneered, "She's a princess, she doesn't have her fingers in the water, can she cook anything that's edible?
He looked over at Edgar, sympathy written in his eyes.
"I have an assistant to order my food, so don't bother. Take it back." Edgar rejected her kind offer outright.
"No! I'm not taking it back, I'm going to stay here and watch you eat it."
Elva walked around the table to his side and took his arm towards the sofa area.
"This rice has to be eaten while it's hot, otherwise it won't taste good when it's cold."
She pressed Edgar onto the sofa and then turned to get the thermos on the table.
"Oh, yes, you go ahead and get out." She made a point of stopping to speak as she passed in front of Ivor.
Ivor looked to Edgar, asking what he meant.
Only to see Edgar give a slight nod.
Ivor was then relieved to go out and thoughtfully closed the door behind him.
"I asked Auntie, she said you like sweet and sour prawns the best, and braised pork ribs, so I learnt to make those two." Elva said as she opened the insulated lunch box.
"Elva, I'm really not hungry yet, you go back first, I'll eat when I'm hungry." Edgar chose another way to give the eviction order.
But Elva acted as if she didn't understand, "It's okay, you can try some first even if you're not hungry, see if it's good."
Edgar looked at the attentive Elva and was at a loss as to what to do.
"This is sweet and sour prawns, and this is braised pork ribs."
Elva placed the dishes one by one in front of him and handed him the chopsticks, "Try it."
Edgar's mouth twitched as he looked at the dark, unidentifiable objects in the two lunch boxes, "Are you sure you can eat them?"
"Yes." Elva nodded, "I tried it at home and it was good."
"Is it?" Edgar wasn't convinced that the seemingly burnt dish was still edible.
Seeing his resistance, Elva pulled a face and said, "They've worked hard to make this, you have to eat it even if it's bad."
She wasn't his girlfriend, so why should he have to meet her demands?
Edgar put down his chopsticks and spoke straightforwardly, "Elva, we are not suitable for each other, today's statement is just a temporary measure, when things have calmed down, I will pick a time to step in and cancel the union."
