Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1390: It's Family
Paulina woke up with a blinding white and some confusion in her eyes.
Where was she?
Wasn't she in the car with Alvaro?
"Paulina."
A familiar voice rang in her ears.
Turning his head slowly, he met a pair of eyes brimming with concern and his eyes instantly reddened, "Marcos..."
He recalled the chase down the road, brushing against death several times, but finally crashing into a tree.
The moment she hit it, despair completely overcame her.
She thought she was dead.
She thought she would never see Marcos or the baby again.
So now, when she saw Marcos, all her emotions flooded out and she burst into tears.
Marcos was distraught, wiping away her tears as he gently soothed her, "It's okay, don't cry."
"I... I thought I would never see you again."
Paulina looked at him with teary eyes.
Marcos smiled helplessly, "Silly, I'm here, aren't I, how can you not see me?".
Paulina grabbed his hand tightly, as if she was afraid he would disappear.
Seeing her like that, Marcos couldn't imagine how scared she was then, how desperate she was.
Her heart ached from squeezing it so hard.
Only when Paulina stabilized did she remember to ask about Alvaro.
"Where is Alvaro, how is he?"
She remembered that Alvaro had steered hard toward her, to keep the front of his car from crashing straight into the tree.
It had crashed like that, he must have been worse off than she was.
Marcos was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Alvaro is still unconscious."
The tears that had been so hard to stop came out once again.
"If it wasn't for me, nothing would have happened to Alvaro."
Paulina blamed herself so much that the tears kept falling like broken pearls.
"Paulina, don't blame yourself, this has nothing to do with you." Marcos hugged her, his heart felt like a cotton ball, it was hard.
If she really was to blame, he should be the one to blame.
If he hadn't let her go back to Alvaro first, what happened later wouldn't have happened.
Paulina buried her face in his chest and stifled a moan.
...
Mr. Juan, Mrs. Gloria and Bonita rushed to the hospital as soon as they received the news.
Seeing Alvaro, lying on the hospital bed, his eyes tightly closed and his face bloodless, Bonita's eyes turned black and her body swayed.
"Bonita," Ms. Gloria rushed to his aid.
Bonita raised her hand to show she was okay, then took a step toward the bed, her eyes riveted on Alvaro, tears slipping silently from the corners of her eyes. "Alvaro ..."
Reaching the side of the bed, she bent down and choked back a sob as she whispered in his ear.
There was no response.
Bonita could no longer hold back her sobs and covered her mouth.
Mrs. Gloria was also crying, she raised her hand to wipe her tears, reached over and stroked Bonita's back, "Bonita, don't cry, the doctor said that Alvaro is only in a temporary coma, he is not well". At these words, Bonita looked up, her eyes fell on Alvaro's pale face, she sniffled and choked, "Mom, do you see him like this, like he's fine?".
It wasn't that she didn't believe the doctors, but only what she saw.
His head was bound with gauze, there was no blood on his face at all, his brain was white to the lips, he didn't look like he was okay in any way.
"I ..."
Actually Ms. Gloria had no idea what she was thinking.
She felt much calmer when she heard the doctor say he was fine, but now that she saw Alvaro looking like that, she didn't know if he was really okay.
At that moment, Mr. Juan took the floor and said, "Alvaro just hit his head and bled a little, the rest are scratches, nothing serious."
Mr. Juan's reassurance was to no avail and the two women present were heartbroken.
Especially Bonita.
While crying, she said, "Just a few hours ago Alvaro had called me to tell me he was coming home for dinner. But this family has not returned and they are in the hospital, what is all this?". At these words, Mrs. Gloria and Mr. Juan looked at each other and both sighed.
It had been so easy to have a few days of peace and then this was happening again.
Who the hell had ever had a problem with The Leoz family.
...
Paulina arrived in Alvaro's living room, helped by Marcos.
"Paulina, why did you get out of bed?" Mrs. Gloria rushed to help hold her up.
"Mom, I'm fine." Paulina gave her a reassuring smile and looked down at Alvaro in the hospital bed, cutting the smile at the corners of her mouth and her expression turned heavy. She walked over to Bonita, her heart choked up as she saw Bonita's eyes were red with tears.
"Bonita, I'm sorry, if it wasn't for me, Alvaro wouldn't be ..."
"Sister-in-law, it's none of your business." Bonita interrupted her, "It was those people who crossed the line."
"Bonita ..." Paulina's eyes filled with tears.
Bonita forced a smile, "Sister-in-law, don't blame yourself, if it had been me today, I would have chosen to protect you too, because we are family."
Rolling tears came to her eyes and Paulina bit her lower lip.
They were always so kind to her, but that was what made it even harder for her.
"Paulina, don't stand up, sit down." Mr. Juan pulled a chair over to her.
"Thank you, Dad." Paulina sat down and looked at Alvaro, who was still unconscious, and asked, "Did the doctor say when he would wake up?"
"The doctor said as long as he wakes up in twelve hours, then he'll be fine." Ms. Gloria replied.
"And how long has it been already?" Paulina asked again.
Mrs. Gloria looked at her watch, "Three or four hours, I think."
It was about eight hours away.
Paulina turned her head to look at Bonita, "Bonita, don't tire yourself out in your early pregnancy, go back and rest, we have Marcos and Alfredo and the others here."
Bonita smiled bitterly, "Sister-in-law, I'm going to be too worried to sleep even if I go back now, I'd better stay here with Alvaro."
"But..." Paulina worried that her body couldn't take it.
"Sister-in-law, if I'm tired, I'll rest here. It's you, on the other hand, who is not fully recovered, so you'd better get out of bed less." Paulina burst into tears.
How to advise her in turn?
"Paulina, go back to the living room and lie down. I'll take care of you here, you'll be fine." Mrs. Gloria gently told her.
"Mom, it's been hard on you."
Paulina's heart felt really bad when this had happened to her again after a day that had already calmed down.
"It's not hard. Go back and rest."
Mrs. Gloria turned to Marcos and said, "Take Paulina to rest."
When Marcos and Paulina left, Mrs. Gloria ordered Bonita to go to bed and rest as well.
"Mama, I want to stay with Alvaro," Bonita kept insisting.
Mrs. Gloria frowned and said, feigning displeasure, "Think of the baby in your belly, if anything happens to you, Alvaro will wake up and blame himself. Do you want to watch him blame himself?" "No." Bonita ducked her head.
"Then it's not okay." Ms. Gloria's tone softened, "Go rest, your father and I are here, everything will be fine."
At Ms. Gloria's insistence, Bonita obediently lay down on the bed next to her to rest.
