Love Comes To Me
Chapter 1493: Wanting to grow old with him

Alvaro was in shock, "Drugged? What's going on here?"

"Almeida they extracted a strange drug from Paulina's blood."

"No. How could my sister-in-law have been drugged if she's barely had any contact with people outside since her return?"

Something suddenly occurred to Alvaro, "Could it have happened only in the last few days?"

It was true that his sister-in-law had been in contact with several collaborators in the last few days due to the work of planning the annual meeting. Marcos' eyes sank slightly, "I think so."

Alvaro thought for a moment and said, "Brother, I'm going to go investigate who is trying to harm the sister-in-law."

With that, he was about to turn and walk away.

"Wait!" Marcos called out to him.

Alvaro turned his head, "What's wrong?".

"Go back to bed, this will wait until morning."

It was early, everyone was asleep, he couldn't investigate anything even if he wanted to.

"Then I'll send someone to investigate first thing in the morning."

With those words, Alvaro strided away.

The room fell silent again.

Marcos fixed his gaze on Paulina's small, pale face and whispered, "Whoever tries to hurt you, I won't let them go." Paulina felt as if her body had been run over by a truck, her body was sore, even her eyes were sore and swollen. She opened her eyes with difficulty, and they were white with snow, and confusion was written all over them. Where was this place?

Resting her hands on the bed, she slowly sat up and turned her head to look around, her pretty, fine eyebrows furrowed. How had she ended up in the hospital?

What had happened?

She looked down at her somewhat swollen hands and a bitter smile tugged at the corners of her lips: was she sick?

Marcos pushed open the door and, seeing Paulina, who had slept through the night, got up and hurried over to her.

"Paulina," he said, his voice slightly trembling, mixed with a hint of nervousness.

Paulina raised her head and met his worried eyes, the corners of her mouth turned up slightly, "Feng ..."

The moment she opened her mouth, she realized that her throat was so dry and sore that she couldn't even make a sound.

His eyes instantly turned red.

Marcos hurried to pour her a glass of water and said in a soft voice, "Don't cry, just drink some water."

Paulina obediently drank the glass of water, put her hand to her throat and swallowed before speaking timidly, "Marcos, what's wrong with me?"

This time, she was able to speak fully, but her throat was still vaguely sore.

Marcos' heart had clenched at the sight of her red eyes, and now, hearing her raspy voice, it felt even more like she had been stabbed hard in the heart.

It ached raw.

"You just have a cold and a fever." Mark reached up to smooth her messy hair, looking down at her with a soft, watery gaze, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"That's too serious." Paulina wondered a little, "I don't think I've been this sick in a long time."

Except when the virus had struck.

Paulina's thin brow furrowed at the thought of a virus, he didn't seem to know about it.

She looked at Marcos, wanting to say something.

Was she going to tell him?

"What's wrong?" Marcos looked at her as if he had something to tell himself.

"Marcos, actually ..." Paulina bit her lip, "there's a virus lurking in my body."

Marcos' brow furrowed slightly and he said nothing.

Paulina smiled slightly again, "But don't worry, the virus has been suppressed, it will be fine for now."

She finished, staring at Marcos, afraid to lose any hint of his expression.

Marcos had a calm face, "I know."

"You know, how did you do it ..." Paulina realized something was wrong and continued, "When did you know?"

"Last night."

Last night?

Paulina thought of something and asked uncertainly, "I'd have a cold and a fever, it wouldn't be from the virus, would it?"

Marcos didn't answer.

He was consenting.

Paulina's heart sank, "It really is because of the virus..."

Marcos took her in his arms, his large palm gently caressing her back, his soft voice sounding soothingly in her ear, "Almeida and Sener are already working on a new medicine, so don't worry, you'll be fine."

"Yes?" Paulina clutched her lapels, tears slipping from the corners of her eyes, "It's been so long, the virus has already taken root in my body, how can it be eradicated so easily? I am willing to live in peace with the virus for the rest of my life. But..."

At this point, she could no longer hold back tears, "But I don't know how long a life lasts."

This time she would be sick because of the virus.

Did it mean the virus was almost out of control? Wouldn't she live long as the virus really took hold?

She didn't want it.

Marcos had come back to her so easily and she really wanted to grow old with Marcos!

The sound of her screams fell on her ears like someone plunging a knife into her heart.

Marcos tightened his arms and hugged her tightly, "Trust me Paulina, we will save you and you will be healthy."

Paulina buried her face in his arms and gave a muffled "mmm".

Yes, she had to trust Marcos, trust Almeida and the others.

But it was still hard, and she couldn't stop the tears.

Paulina cried herself to sleep.

Marcos gently laid her back down and reached up to wipe the tears from her eyelashes.

Whatever it took, he would restore her to her former health.

...

As soon as the family heard about Paulina's condition, they immediately went to the hospital.

When Mrs. Gloria saw Paulina's face so pale that there was no blood on it, she became distraught and exclaimed, "How could this happen, isn't she well, why is she suddenly so seriously ill?" She threw a puzzled look at Marcos.

Marcos was silent for a few seconds before speaking slowly, "I got caught in the rain yesterday afternoon."

"How can you be so unfriendly?" Ms. Gloria looked at Paulina a bit angrily, "You weren't feeling well the other day, all the more reason to take care of yourself, how can you be so unloving?" Although Ms. Gloria's tone was a bit heavy, Paulina knew she was worried about herself.

Paulina smiled faintly, "Mom, I'm not unloving. The rain thing was an accident and I didn't think much of it."

"Don't do that again." Mrs. Gloria touched her cheek painfully, "Look how pretty you used to be and now what you've become."

"Is it ugly?" Paulina asked, blinking in confusion.

"It's not ugly." Ms. Gloria got up and opened the thermos on the nightstand and took out a bowl, "This is the porridge I made with chicken broth, eat it while it's hot."

Paulina got excited and said, "Mom is still the best to me."

"If you think Mom is good to you, take good care of your body." admonished Ms. Gloria.

Paulina nodded earnestly, "Yes, I will. Don't worry, Mom."
