Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 712: They're the family
When Rowson walked into the ward, this was the scene he saw.
The woman with the beautiful, gentle features was smiling, and even though it was just a sideways glance, Rowson could feel Eloise's heartfelt happiness. Not a forced smile to appease others, but genuine joy.
For some reason, his pace suddenly stopped and he just stared at Eloise in awe.
Or rather, at the way Eloise was spending time with Hector.
Since Eloise's injury, she seemed to smile less and less.
Rowson couldn't even remember the last time Eloise had really smiled.
He had tried to cheer Eloise up, but all he got was a grudging smile from her.
What he could not do with all his might, Hector could do with ease.
At this moment, Rowson felt powerless and helpless.
Sweety, who was unaware of Rowson's abnormality, blinked her big eyes at Rowson, her voice as sweet as candy.
"Daddy, why don't you go inside? Hey... is that daddy!"
Sweety fixed her eyes and saw Hector's figure, her tone full of surprise.
Rowson was in a trance for a moment and only sobered up a bit when he heard Sweety's words, smiled as if nothing had happened and replied, "I was just thinking about something, it's Daddy's fault, go inside." Sweety nodded and took Rowson's hand as she bounced into the ward.
Sweety hadn't seen Hector for a long time and jumped straight into his arms, pouting, "Daddy, Sweety misses you so much."
No matter how cold and hard his heart is, when he meets such a lovely daughter, he will turn into a puddle of water.
Hector stroked Sweety's little head and replied, "Daddy misses Sweety too, and it makes Daddy happy to see Sweety now."
Eloise couldn't help but smile and pat Sweety, saying jealously, "Sweety doesn't even miss Mummy."
Sweety sniffed and busily gave Eloise a kiss on the cheek and spoke, "Of course I miss Mummy too."
Rowson sat on the sidelines, alone and frustrated.
It was as if they were a happy family and he was just an outsider.
As much as he tried to join in and take Hector's place, it was all for naught.
Rowson fought back his inner loss and turned to Eloise, "Eloise, are you feeling better? Mum's been talking about it and is worried about you."
Eloise smiled, a little paler but much better than before.
Her smile was like a spring breeze that soothed the heart and warmed it.
"It's not much of a problem anymore, I'm sorry to make Mum worry about me, tell her for me when you get back that I'm all right, don't worry about me."
Rowson nodded and Eloise shifted her gaze to look at Sweety, her eyes full of tender love.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, Rowson only felt the feeling of helplessness inside him growing out of control.
He stood up, just wanting to get out of here, and made a random excuse, "Sweety can stay with you for the day, I have some things to do in the research lab, I'll go back first."
Eloise didn't think too much of it and nodded, "Take care."
"Well, I'll be off."
Rowson left the ward almost as if he had run away.
There, he seemed to be an outsider, an outsider who could not fit in with them.
Back in the lab, Florent was by now intently poring over reports.
Seeing Rowson sitting in his chair, disoriented and depressed, he hastened to ask with concern, "Are you all right?"
Rowson clutched his head, and for once he didn't have the strength to answer that it was okay.
He didn't even have the courage to lie to himself anymore.
After a moment of silence, he closed his eyes and replied, "What should I do... teacher, I feel like I really can't keep Eloise anymore, I feel like I'm getting further and further away from her, like I'll never be able to reach her, teacher, what do you think... I should not give up?"
"Ugh..."
Florent sighed, knowing that Rowson was head over heels in love with Eloise.
Seeing that Rowson's eyes were red, he replied, "As your friend, my advice to you is that things like relationships don't go smoothly, don't get discouraged and keep on keeping on."
"Okay, I get it, thank you." Rowson reluctantly replied.
He then stood up and got stuck into his work.
Working as hard as he could, numbing his mind by telling himself not to think about anything else.
In the late afternoon, Rowson packed his things and prepared to go home.
Sitting in the driver's seat, he saw the sun setting through the glass of his car.
The clouds in the sky reflected the blue sky, and his mind was disturbed once again.
Irritated, he stepped on the accelerator and passed by the hospital where Eloise was staying, and Rowson couldn't help but take one more look. Eventually he withdrew his eyes and drove on.
What was Eloise doing at this hour?
What a wonderful family, with Sweety pampering the two of them and chatting happily with Hector.
What an enviable family.
Fu House.
Rowson returns to the house, disoriented, and leaves his briefcase lying around.
He went to the fridge and opened it, took out a bottle of water and took a big sip.
The clear coldness cleared his mind and Rowson bowed his head in dismay.
Mrs Darlington saw Rowson's face and guessed what was going on. She went over to him and asked, "What's the matter? Are you in a bad mood?"
Rowson took a deep breath, went to the sofa and sat down, closed his eyes wearily and held his forehead, "Mum, I don't know if I can keep going, I really ... want to give up... It's too hard.
The whole loving her thing was too easy, chasing her was too hard.
He stumbled and ran towards her, and the results were ever so cruel.
Mrs Darlington sighed and walked over to sit next to him.
"
Patting Rowson on the back, she said soothingly, "Rowson, it's not Mom's age to make decisions for you anymore, but Mom wants you to know that if you really like Eloise and really want to spend the rest of your life with her, let go and go after her.
You're a little over halfway through your life and it's hard to meet someone you love with all your heart, so now that you have, go after her, no matter what the outcome is."
At those words Rowson's heart fluttered.
It was easy to meet someone you liked, and it was even less of a task to stick with them.
Halfway through the day, he opened his eyes and twisted his head to smile at Mrs Darlington.
With a decision already made in his mind, he opened his mouth and replied, "Mum, I know, I'll stick with it."
Seeing this, Mrs Darlington smiled gratefully and said, "That's my son, don't worry, no matter what you want to do, I, as a mother, will always support you."
