Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 719: Don't take it to heart
Because of this incident, Eloise's wound had gotten a little worse.
She was already much closer to being discharged from the hospital, and now she had to recuperate again.
But every day Sweety and Solomon come to talk to Eloise and relieve her boredom, and Hector also comes in from time to time. The days in hospital are not so difficult.
Fu House.
Rowson returned home with tired eyes, slightly haggard from the day's work.
After changing his slippers and glancing over at Mrs Darlington, who was sitting unusually silent on the sofa, he placed his briefcase on a chair in the living room and asked, "Mum, what's wrong with you?" When Mrs Darlington saw Rowson's question, she glared at him and said, "Let me ask you, did Adeline go to the hospital to see Eloise? And had a confrontation with her that caused Eloise to open her wound?" Rowson didn't expect Mrs Darlington to know what had happened so quickly, and his face showed a look of weakness and guilt.
Pursing his lips, he lowered his eyes and said, "Mum, you know..."
When he didn't deny it, Mrs Darlington interrupted Rowson's next words and asked with a frown, "You just need to tell me if it's true?" Having done so Rowson did not hide it, and after a moment's dithering, opened his mouth and replied, "... yes ..."
Mrs Darlington sighed at that, helpless and angry, and looked at Rowson with hatred.
"So let me ask you, did you believe that woman Adeline?"
Although Rowson knew he had done wrong, it was undeniable that he did believe Adeline's words at the beginning.
If Hector had not been there, he really did not know what the consequences would have been.
When confronted by Mrs Darlington, Rowson was silent and did not say anything but nodded his head.
When she saw Rowson's face, Mrs Darlington stood up in anger and pointed at Rowson, "Don't you know what that woman Adeline is like?
You would rather trust a scheming woman like that than Eloise, who was ready to break with her past when she decided to marry you.
Isn't this a way to chill her heart? I don't know how long you would have kept this from me if someone downstairs hadn't told me about it!"
As a woman, Mrs Darlington understands Eloise all too well that being misunderstood is the hardest thing in the world.
Rowson knew this, but he had lost his mind when he saw the way Hector was defending Eloise.
With regret and loss in his heart, he smiled bitterly, "Mum, I was wrong about this, I understand."
Seeing Rowson's attitude like this, Mrs Darlington was even more furious.
"What's the use of knowing you've done wrong now? What you should do is apologise to Eloise and reflect on your mistake seriously, my daughter-in-law can't be bullied for nothing.
If you don't go and teach that woman a lesson, I will personally come to the door and have a good chat with the woman's mother, who has taught her such a thing!"
She had wanted to marry them, but now she saw that if Rowson hadn't refused, the Darlington family would have taken this scourge into their hands.
Mrs Darlington was glad that Eloise had come along, but she was also angry at Rowson's distrust of her.
Thinking back to the day at the hospital, Rowson clearly saw the disappointment and sadness in Eloise's eyes.
He was afraid that he had now broken Eloise's heart completely.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "Mum, what should I do then?"
Mrs Darlington's anger subsided when she saw that her son had some heart to change his ways.
She sat back on the sofa and wrapped her arms around her, "If you really want to make things right, go and apologise to Eloise and explain yourself properly." Rowson sniffed and nodded.
The following day.
Solomon and Sweety arrived early at the hospital.
They had been warned by Hector before they arrived that they were not allowed to touch Eloise easily, lest they open up her wounds.
So the two youngsters were on tenterhooks for fear of touching Eloise's wounds again.
There was a look of worry and concern on their faces that did not match their age.
The more Eloise watched their worried expressions, the more she could not help but smile and finally snicker.
Solomon looked at Eloise in confusion and asked, "Mummy, what are you laughing at?"
At these words, Eloise reached out and pinched Solomon's fleshy face and smiled.
"It's not like Mummy is terminally ill, you two are so worried all day long, don't worry about me, I'll be fine after a while."
"I'm worried about Mummy, when are you going to get well, Mummy? Solomon said poutingly.
Sweety nodded along with him, agreeing with Solomon's words.
While they were talking, Rowson came in with a fruit basket.
Setting the basket aside, he explained, "You're still recovering from illness there's quite a lot you can't eat, so I bought a bit of fruit."
Scanning the basket of fruit, Eloise replied politely, "Thank you, it's too much trouble."
Rowson hadn't expected such a rusty and polite reply from Eloise, as if the two of them had been pulled apart in an instant.
Sweety was no longer as close to him, nor did she look at him with the same dependence as before.
He was so disappointed, but he didn't know where to begin.
I can understand Eloise's attitude now.
At that time, he had not chosen to trust her, so how could he have the courage to ask her not to care about it now?
After a moment's hesitation, Rowson said, "Eloise, I'm here today to apologise to you. I listened to that woman Adeline and didn't believe you in the first place, I'm sorry, I hope you can forgive me." On the side, Solomon and Sweety stared wide-eyed, not understanding Rowson's words.
Eloise leaned back on the hospital bed, her face was blank but her eyes were still picturesque, and her gentle smile became the most merciless knife in Rowson's eyes.
She replied indifferently, "You don't have to care about this, just pretend it never happened and don't take it to heart, okay?"
Her lack of concern left Rowson unable to replace any other answer but a sullen, "Yes."
The atmosphere was a little more awkward for a moment, and Rowson ducked his head guiltily.
The more Eloise said she was okay with it, the more he felt bad about it.
He wished Eloise had acted more excitedly, argued with him, at least he would have felt less guilty.
At least he could feel that she cared about him.
Eloise, seeing Rowson in a depressed mood, looked away in silence.
Just because she was unconcerned with the world didn't mean she was a sore loser who could take any grievance as a passing thought.
There was already a stigma in her heart about the incident, not a big one but one that was deeply ingrained.
Rowson saw that she no longer wished to say anything more, so he sighed and made an excuse, "Eloise you get some rest, I'll go to the research room first."
