Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 915: Surveillance
John stared at Hector for an instant, not wanting to miss a single moment of his reaction.
Hector was shocked to hear that the Institute had also been burgled, "The Institute was burgled? What happened?" John stared at him without making a sound.
I'm afraid I can't pretend I can't see what he's saying any more.
So Hector thought for a moment and asked, half jokingly, half seriously, "Mr John, are you doubting me?"
John remains silent.
He had been somewhat suspicious of Hector at the beginning, and after the conversation he had just had, his doubts had increased rather than dispelled. Hector says it like it is and doesn't show anything wrong, but the more he says it, the more suspicious it becomes.
Now let's see what else he has to say.
Hector's eyes lowered, his gaze falling on the hand resting on his lap, and for a moment a dead silence fell around him.
His face was as calm as water, looking nothing out of the ordinary, but he exuded a sense of oppression around him that one could not ignore.
Even the most sophisticated John was a bit freaked out.
But when he thought of his own status, he immediately straightened his back, not wanting his aura to be overwhelmed.
It was only after a long moment that Hector lifted his eyes, his warmthless gaze looking at the man opposite him.
As soon as he touched his gaze, John subconsciously averted his eyes, but regretted it as soon as he did so.
Doesn't it seem like you're afraid of him?
Just as he was chagrined, Hector spoke up, "Mr John, I'm disappointed."
At these words, John's heart jumped, but he acted calmly and asked in mock confusion, "Mr Hector, what do you mean by that?"
Hector smiled coldly, "I came to Italy specifically this time because I sincerely want to cooperate with your group ..."
He spoke with a slight pause, picked up his coffee and took a light sip as he continued, "I even sent the herbs myself to show my sincerity, but... I didn't expect Mr John to suspect me." Hector could not hide a look of disappointment.
In fact, John only suspected and had no evidence to prove that he was responsible for the theft of the drugs and the burning of the herbs.
Plus this Hector is a partner of the group.
It is indeed wrong to suspect him on the basis of one's own subjective assumptions alone.
John deliberated for a moment, "Mr Hector, you misunderstand, I don't suspect you, not at all."
"Oh, yeah?" Hector asked back in a faint voice, clearly not believing him.
"Mr Hector, it's not just you who are sincere in our cooperation, I am also 100% sincere."
John said it with the utmost sincerity.
Inwardly, Hector was very disdainful, but he spoke helplessly, "Mr John, I am just a simple herbalist, I am not that capable."
John laughed awkwardly and concurred, "Yes, I know, I didn't mean to doubt you, you really misunderstood. I just think that this incident is too fishy, and our SA Group will definitely investigate it as soon as possible." "I understand how you feel, this time it does seem too coincidental. If there's anything you need to do to help, just ask." Hector said without skipping a beat as he gently raised his eyebrows.
"Well, thanks in advance to Mr Hector."
Despite not believing him wholeheartedly, John had a smile on his face.
Now that the herbs have been burnt, he still has to rely on this man in front of him to bring in a fresh batch of herbs, so he has to bow his head when he should.
Hector looked at his wristwatch and said, seemingly carelessly, "I don't suppose Mr John has had breakfast yet, since he's here so early. Why don't you join us?"
"Thank you for the invitation, but I still have to go back to the office to take care of things, so I'll treat you to dinner some other time."
Having said that, John stood up.
Hector got up too, "No more seeing you off then."
Although it was clear that he didn't really mean his invitation to breakfast, John was upset that he was so quick to give the eviction order.
He glanced at them unobtrusively for a few moments and found that he still couldn't see or try anything different, so he had to give up for now.
As he and Hector walked towards the door, he smiled and said, "Mr Hector, it has been a few days of poor hospitality, and this I have brought someone with me, so if you would like to wander, why not let her accompany you?" John thought of something and asked again, "I don't suppose Mr Hector has any plans today?"
With that, they walked out of the room and saw a foreign woman outside the door.
John made the introductions, "This is my assistant Joey, she knows every attraction in Italy and thinks she should be able to make the most of Mr Hector's stay in Italy."
"Prince..." Thomas glanced at the Joey with some unease.
Hector turned his head to look askance at him, then smiled slightly, "I was worried about not having the right person to show me around, you have a heart."
John smiled when he agreed, "It's the right thing to do. You've come all this way, it's only right that I should show something."
He then turned to Joey and instructed, "You show Mr Hector around and don't let up, okay?"
"I know."
Joey nodded and then looked to Hector, "Mr Hector, this is Joey, if you need anything just ask."
Hector nodded his head to show he knew.
John's mind is too obvious.
Leaving his secretary behind, under the pretense that he was going to show him around, was in fact a way to keep an eye on him. That's not a bad thing for him, maybe he can get John to trust himself through Joey's surveillance.
Nothing could be tried with him and John had to leave the hotel.
In the car, Pierce, who had been waiting, looked back at John and asked tentatively, "Mr John, has Mr Hector been cleared?"
"Not necessarily." John smiled coldly, "The events of the last two days have happened so coincidentally that I can't help but suspect him."
Pierce nodded, "You are right to be suspicious."
Both the drug theft and the fire occurred after Mr Hector's arrival, and nothing like this had ever happened before.
"So I left Joey behind just to keep an eye on him and see if he was doing anything suspicious."
"It's Mr John who thinks ahead." Pierce patted up.
John narrowed his eyes, "Although we suspect something to do with Mr Hector, we have no proof, so you have to get to the bottom of both of these things! Or else when the time comes, you'll be out there covering my ass." At that, Pierce ducked his head in fear, "I know."
He didn't want to take on such a big pot, he had to get to the bottom of it.
As soon as John left this side, Hector entered the room.
Joey made a subconscious effort to follow, but was stopped just in time by Thomas.
"There is a difference between men and women."
Four simple words stopped Joey.
"Sorry." Joey had the good sense to step aside and wait for Hector.
Thomas gave her a deep look before entering the room as well and closing the door behind him.
Joey stared at the door, his eyes secretive.
