Love Comes To Me
Chapter 942: Blame me for being too stubborn

Maryam sat at Grandpa Khan's bedside for nearly two hours, without even changing her position.

Eloise was afraid she wouldn't be able to hold it together and advised, "Mum, why don't you go and rest while I watch Grandpa?"

Maryam shook her head, "No, I'm okay."

Her insistence makes Eloise heartbroken and helpless.

The only thing I could do was to be there for her.

"Eloise," Maryam called out suddenly.

"Hmm."

"Wasn't Mum ungrateful?" Maryam turned her head to look at her, her eyes brimming with sorrow.

Eloise did not answer.

Because she couldn't say who was right and who was wrong about what happened back then, and it was a matter between her mother and grandfather that she, a junior, could not comment on.

"If I had listened to your grandparents back then, maybe nothing would be the same now, and your grandmother wouldn't have left so early."

At this point, Maryam hid her face and whimpered, "It's all my fault for being ungrateful, why I didn't come back sooner, why..."

She hated herself for being overly proud and unwilling to bow down.

It resulted in not being around when my mother passed away and not seeing the last of her.

The more I think about it, the sadder and more guilty I feel.

Maryam lost her voice.

Seeing her emotional state, Eloise hurriedly advised, "Mum, don't be upset, the most important thing for you now is to get well so that you can spend more time with Grandpa later." With Eloise's persuasion, Maryam reluctantly calmed down, but the tears kept falling.

"Mom." Eloise couldn't help the sourness in her heart and her eyes flushed.

"Eloise, let me cry a little or I'll feel bad inside."

Eloise put her arm around her shoulders and gave her silent comfort.

I don't know how long it took for the crying to slowly stop.

Maryam's eyes were swollen with tears.

"Mum, I'll get a hot towel for you to put on your eyes."

Eloise had just turned around when she was pulled in.

"There's no need." Maryam wiped her tears away, "It'll be fine later."

"No, your eyes will be uncomfortable later on like that."

Eloise didn't listen to her mother and went straight into the bathroom.

That's when Brimlad arrived.

When she entered the ward and saw the person sitting by the bed, she thought for a moment that she had entered the wrong ward and hurriedly withdrew.

But a quick glance at the ward number was correct and once again walked in.

"May I ask if you are ..."

The familiar voice that sounded behind her caused Maryam's back to stiffen and she slowly turned her head.

Four eyes facing each other.

Brimlad's eyes slowly widened and his mouth followed suit.

"Third sister!"

Maryam curled her lips slightly, "Brimlad, it's been a long time."

"Third sister, it's really you!"

Brimlad walked up quickly, put the things he had brought down on the bedside table and reached out to hug her. But afraid that he might scare her, his hand froze in mid-air, a little unsure of what to do.

"It's me."

Maryam stood up, but her head was a little dizzy from the lack of oxygen caused by crying too long earlier.

"Third sister!" Brimlad exclaimed, rushing to her aid, "Are you all right?"

Maryam closed her eyes and waited to ease up before saying softly, "I'm fine."

Hearing the commotion outside, Eloise came running out of the bathroom.

She thought something had happened to her mother and was relieved at the sight of Brimlad.

"Auntie, you're here."

She walked over to her mother and saw that she looked a little off and asked hastily, "What's wrong?"

"Third sister just almost fainted."

Brimlad's heart palpitates when he thinks about what just happened.

I'm afraid Maryam would have fainted on the floor by now if she hadn't just arrived.

Eloise knew that her mother had just cried too much, and with her own poor health, she was overwhelmed for a while.

"Mum, let me help you to rest."

"Don't worry, I'm fine." Maryam patted her hand soothingly, then turned her head to look at Brimlad, "I haven't seen your brother-in-law in a while and there's something I want to talk about." At that, Brimlad was a little helpless, "Third sister, if you don't feel well, go and rest, we'll talk tomorrow, okay?"

"If I say it's fine, it's fine, I know my body best."

Eloise and Brimlad looked at each other and finally both compromised.

"That's fine, I'll help you to sit over there."

Eloise helped her mother to sit on the sofa and then said to Brimlad, "Come and sit too, brother-in-law."

Brimlad went over as he was told and sat down next to Maryam.

"Brimlad, how have you been all these years?" Maryam asked softly as she took her hand.

The two of them were on the best of terms back then, knowing each other's secrets as if they were sisters.

So after all these years of seeing each other again, it still doesn't feel rusty anymore.

"Third sister, we are doing well, but it is you who ..."

Brimlad's heart welled up with a sourness when he thought of what she had been through all these years.

If she hadn't left home in anger for that scum, she would have been much better off than she is now.

Maryam knew what she was thinking and said, "I've had a good time too. No, it's worth my life to have such a dutiful daughter as Eloise."

With that, she turned her head to look at Eloise.

Brimlad didn't want to bring up what happened back then either, so he talked along with her, "Yeah, Eloise is really well behaved, Teng and I love her, and of course, Dad loves her even more."

At the mention of the old man, Maryam's heart clenched together again, and her expression was tinged with a bit of sadness.

"I'm sorry, I should have come back to see you all sooner, it's all my fault, I'm so stubborn."

You could hear she was guilty, but Brimlad didn't want to see her like that.

She was right about what happened back then, and so was the old man.

One in pursuit of his own happiness, the other for his daughter's, neither of which is wrong.

"Third sister, you don't need to apologise. Mum and Dad never really blamed you, and after you left, although Dad didn't say it with his mouth, we all knew that he actually missed you, but he just couldn't lower his head to come to you because he was ashamed."

Maryam laughed bitterly, "Even if they don't blame me, I've disgraced them."

A young lady from a wealthy family quarrelled with her own father over a man and left home, disgracing the Khan family.

"Let's not talk about the past." Brimlad really didn't want her to be upset.

She used to be such a proud and bright person, but now she is like a pearl covered in dust, losing its original lustre.

Time really can change a lot of things.

Maryam sighed, "Just because it's not mentioned doesn't mean it doesn't exist."

"Well, just say no to mentioning it." Brimlad patted her hand.

Maryam was silent for a moment before she spoke up and asked, "Mom... how did she go?"

"Just stayed in bed after a fall and didn't make it through that winter before he left."

Maryam's eyes reddened again, "I was really ungrateful for not even coming back to see her one last time."
