Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 957: Paying the price
Edgar laughs, "You two..."
He weighed his words, "Are you free now?"
Eloise nodded, "Yes."
"Then go over there and I'll introduce you to someone."
Having said that, Edgar took the lead and turned around.
"Let's go over there too." Eloise said.
Hector turned around and saw Edgar walk up to a man and say something, not knowing what to say, and both looked over at the same time.
"Hector, what's wrong with you?" Eloise asked suspiciously when she saw that he was motionless.
"It's nothing." Hector took her hand, "Let's go over there."
"Good."
Seeing Hector and Eloise approaching, Rawlins straightened his tie, waited for them to come forward and extended his right hand, "Mr Hector, hello, I'm Rawlins." "Hello." Hector shook his hand.
"Hello, Mrs Eloise," Rawlins said, nodding towards Eloise.
Eloise smiled graciously in response, "Hello."
"Hector, Mr Rawlins is the person who is hosting this charity evening today." Edgar introduced, "The Bartram family is a family of herbs like the Khan family, the difference is that they have their own research institute and will be working on some new types of drugs."
At these words, an imperceptible hint of emotion quickly crossed Hector's eyes. "Compared to the Khan family, our Bartram family is nothing to talk about." Rawlins is modest but not without a little bit of praise for the Khan family.
Eloise couldn't help but look at him a few more times.
He looks about the same age as Hector, but the two have completely different auras, one cool and one gentle, especially with a pair of gold-rimmed glasses on his face, very civilised and gentle.
But for some reason, there was an inexplicable feeling of discomfort in her heart.
Perhaps it was because she had experienced so much that she had a vague feeling that people of this image had a lot of heart.
Perhaps noticing her gaze, Rawlins looked over and smiled at her.
She gave a heartbeat and hastily smiled back, then stopped looking at him.
"Mr Hector, we could work together sometime." Rawlins said.
Hector nodded, "Definitely."
Rawlins is a chatty guy and talks to Hector about everything from the stock market to overseas investments.
Hector just listened politely, nodding occasionally and not speaking at any other time.
The subject was too difficult for Eloise and she was a little drowsy listening.
"Tired?" Hector noticed and asked in a low voice in her ear.
"A bit."
Eloise covered her mouth and yawned.
Such a party is really too boring, it's better to stay home and watch TV shows with my brother-in-law.
Her body does not allow her to work too hard.
So Hector spoke straight away, "Mr Rawlins, sorry, we may have to leave."
At that, Rawlins was slightly surprised, "Isn't the party over yet? What's the hurry to leave?"
"She's not feeling well, I'm taking her back to rest."
Rawlins looked at Eloise and realised that she did look a little worse for wear, so it was not a good idea to keep them.
"That's fine, I hope we get a chance to work together in the future." Rawlins always had a fitting smile on his face that didn't give the impression of hypocrisy.
Hector nodded slightly.
"Then I'll see you out." Rawlins said.
Hector declined, "No need, stay."
Rawlins didn't push it, "Take care on the road."
"Thank you for your hospitality." Eloise nodded at him, then took Hector's arm and left together.
After seeing them out and disappearing from sight, Rawlins withdrew his eyes and looked at Edgar, "Mr Edgar, I heard that the Khan Group and Rogers Group are working together on a biotech company, is this true?" Edgar smiled, "Mr Rawlins this is too well-informed."
"I'm not the only one who knows this kind of big news horror, am I?" Rawlins asked rhetorically.
Edgar nodded, "That's true."
"I wonder if I could join in?" Rawlins asked.
Edgar thought he had misheard, "Mr Rawlins, what did you just say?"
"Both our companies are also in the herb business, and the Bartram family have their own researchers, and institutes, and I thought your new company might need skills in this area."
Rawlins looks a little smug when he says this.
But he was telling the truth, the biotechnology company that the two Jin and Fang were working with this time really needed a lot of professional researchers.
If the Bartram family could provide it, it would save a lot of work.
Edgar was impressed, but he still didn't say yes straight away - after all, he didn't own the company alone.
"I'll talk to my Hector about it and I'll get back to you then."
Rawlins is in no hurry as he smiles and says, "That's good enough with you."
The two chatted for a while longer, before Edgar was called away in the back, leaving Rawlins alone.
"How did the talk go?" Earlene walked up to him with a drink in one hand and one hand clasped to her chest.
Rawlins gave her a sidelong glance before tilting his head and downing the wine in his hand, "Sloppy."
"It doesn't seem to have worked." Earlene took a light sip of her wine, her red lips pursed and her brow quirking in a flirtatious way.
"Do you think what I want to do will not work?" Rawlins had a smug look on his face.
Earlene laughed softly, "If it were before today, I might have believed you. But this time you've run into Hector, who is a bit of a mystery."
"Women are really women, they think about things just so superficially."
Rawlins pointed down to Edgar, who was not far away, and continued: "Hector is not easy to deal with, but Edgar is a different story. He's just taken over the Khan Group and must be desperate to make something of himself. A man like that is best persuaded."
Earlene looked at Edgar thoughtfully for a long time before raising her glass and smiling, "Well, I wish you success in the meantime."
With those words, she turned around and prepared to leave.
"Earlene, wait." Rawlins took her hand.
She did not turn around.
"If I succeed this time, then will you be able to keep what you promised me?"
Earlene's eyes were downcast and no one could see the emotions underneath them.
"Earlene?" the Rawlins frowned when they didn't hear her answer for a long time.
"Rest assured that what I, Earlene, have promised myself will be kept."
Pushing his hand away, Earlene lifted her steps and walked away, her pretty face without a trace of expression, her eyes as cold as if they were covered with a layer of frost. "Earlene, I will do it." Rawlins looked at her back with an expression of determination.
...
On the way back, Eloise's brow furrowed slightly as she reflected on the events of the party.
She turned her head to Hector who was concentrating on driving, "Can you not tell your brother-in-law and sister-in-law about Herrin?"
Perhaps not expecting her to say that, a hint of surprise flashed in Hector's eyes and his thin lips parted lightly, "What's wrong?"
Eloise thought for a moment, "Grandpa is still lying in hospital and you know my mother is not well, you would be telling my mother if you told my brother-in-law and the others."
She really didn't want her mother to worry about her, and she didn't want the Khan family to be in big trouble again because of that brute Herrin.
Knowing exactly what she meant, Hector stroked her head with one free hand and whispered, "Don't worry, I won't tell them, but I won't let Herrin off the hook either."
A brute who dares to covet his cousin is the one who should be made to pay for his actions.
