Love Comes To Me
Chapter 969: Fire

In the early hours of the morning, a large lorry sped down the road on the outskirts of Kyoto.

It finally stopped at the entrance to the Khan Group warehouse.

Several people got out of the car and they quickly headed towards the people waiting at the door.

"You're here at last." The man who spoke was Frankson by day.

"All set?"

Frankson nodded, "Well, it's just to the right as you enter, the dozen or so boxes are all the herbs Mr Arlice wants."

At that, the other man immediately turned his head and ordered, "Unload the ones on the car first."

The others led the way and moved quickly, and in a short while a dozen boxes were stacked at the warehouse door.

Frankson looked at the pile of boxes with a bewildered look on his face, "What's this?"

"You'll know when the time comes. Open the door now."

The other party was reluctant to explain, and Frankson was not in a position to ask more questions, so he obediently opened the door.

As soon as the door opened, several men rushed in, found the herbs Frankson had mentioned and quickly moved them to the van.

The action was fast and it was less than half an hour before all the herbs were loaded onto the cart.

And the boxes previously unloaded from the car were moved to the warehouse.

Frankson understood what they meant at once and couldn't help but laugh, "Still Mr Arlice has thought of everything."

Before the other party left, he said, "Mr Arlice told me to tell you that he will report to the president about the herbs, so you just pretend you don't know anything, understand?" Frankson was busy nodding, "I understand I understand, you can reassure Mr Arlice that I don't know anything."

Only after receiving his promise did the other man leave.

As soon as the big lorry drove away, silence returned to the area around the warehouse.

Frankson hurriedly closed the door behind him and then went to the surveillance room to turn on all the surveillance that had been switched off early to resume work. After everything was done, he slept peacefully in his own office.

On the other side of Kyoto, Farabee was walking around anxiously, occasionally raising her hand to check her watch.

"Dad, can you stop walking around?" Arlice asked out loud, unable to look away.

Farabee looked up at him, "Arlice, do you think something could have happened?"

"It won't happen." Arlice narrowed his eyes, "I won't allow surprises, and I must succeed in this partnership with SA Group."

"But you're removing so many herbs from the warehouse at once, this will be the end of us all if they replace out!" Farabee always felt that this was not a safe thing to do and that there would be hidden dangers. That didn't sit well with Arlice, "Dad, are you trying to make me feel better?"

"That's not what I meant." Farabee got anxious, "I was just afraid there might be an accident."

"It won't. I've already found a scapegoat."

Farabee frowned, "Scapegoat?"

"Exactly." Arlice curled his lips cockily, "I never do anything I'm not sure of."

Farabee thinks about it, he's always been a steady hand and has hardly ever had a problem, so this should be the same.

Just then, a lorry drove up from a distance and stopped not far from them.

The man in the car jumped down and walked quickly up to Arlice, "Vice President, everything went well."

Arlice's gaze went to the van and the corners of his mouth slowly curled up, "Well done."

"Are they all herbs?" Farabee asked uncertainly.

Arlice said "hmm" and then ordered, "Take the herbs to the port overnight, someone will be waiting for you there."

All he has to do is to deliver the herbs to the port and the SA Group will take care of the rest.

"Understood!"

As he watched the van drive away, Farabee was still a little unsure, "Arlice, is that scapegoat you found okay?" "Not a problem at all."

As he said this, Arlice's mouth curled into a grim smile, a shadowy look in his eyes.

...

Edgar was awakened by a sharp ringing of his mobile phone and he squinted at the electronic clock on his bedside table.

4am.

Who would be calling him at this time?

He struggled to sit up from the bed, then reached for the phone that kept ringing and saw that it was his assistant. When he picked up, the panicked voice of his assistant came from the other side: "President, something has happened." Edgar was instantly sleepy and asked after him, "What's wrong?"

"The warehouse on the outskirts of town is on fire and the police have been called."

"What?" Edgar exclaimed, "How could there be a fire?"

"It was the night watchman who smoked and threw his cigarette butt into the cardboard pile by accident."

"Shit." Edgar cursed under his breath, then said, "Resuscitate if you can, forget it if you can't, safety first. I'll be right there."

When he finished, he hung up the phone, got out of bed, changed his clothes and hurried out the door.

When he arrived at the warehouse, he realised that the situation was far worse than he had thought.

Most of the warehouse was almost burnt down, not to mention the herbs inside.

It must have all burnt to ashes.

Edgar stared in awe at the mess in front of him, a sense of powerlessness overwhelming him like a wave, overwhelming him in an instant.

He had only taken over the Khan Group for a short time and such a serious problem had occurred, when the board of directors would not let him off the hook.

"President, unfortunately, the herbs have only been salvaged by less than twenty percent." The assistant reported the latest situation to him.

Edgar closed his eyes in pain, "How much was the damage?"

The assistant did not answer.

Edgar opened his eyes, turned his head and frowned, "What's wrong? Don't you know how much damage was done?"

"Because... the damage is too great to count for a moment."

"Too much damage?" Edgar laughed out, the smile not reaching his eyes as he pointed to the burning warehouse and raised his voice a few notches, "Wouldn't I know the damage was too great when it's burning like this? I want accurate figures!"

Having never seen him angry before, and seeing him so angry for the first time, the assistant was a bit confused, but quickly recovered and hurriedly said, "There are quite a few rare herbs burnt this time, especially the western aconite, which I'm afraid amounted to hundreds of millions."

At the end of the sentence, the assistant's voice trembled a little.

Hundreds of millions.

Edgar took a deep breath before suppressing the depression in his heart.

"Where is the night watchman?"

"Taken away by the police."

...

In the morning, Eloise gets up and comes downstairs just in time to see Edgar enter.

Puzzled, she inquired, "Cousin, did you come back from working late?"

Edgar was all tired and his whole body looked in bad shape.

"What's wrong with you?" Eloise asked with concern.

"Eloise, where's Hector?" Edgar asked instead of answering.

"He's still upstairs." Eloise's thin brows furrowed, "Is something wrong?"

Edgar smiled bitterly, "There was a fire in the warehouse and it destroyed a lot of herbs."

Eloise didn't expect it to be something so serious and was shocked, "What's going on? Why is there a fire?"

Edgar told her the truth as it happened.

"So it was a cigarette butt that started the fire?" Eloise asked uncertainly.

"Well, that seems to be the case at the moment."

Eloise had a feeling something was wrong, "Don't warehouses usually have automatic fire suppression systems? Why is it still burning so badly?" It's a question Edgar would like to ask too.

He went to the police station and the man on watch was so frightened by the fire that he was incoherent and couldn't say what was going on.
