Everett had never really messed up big time; what happened between him and Selena was just a misunderstanding. He bent down, wrapping his strong arms around Selena, holding her tightly even though she was struggling and protesting. His lips brushed against her ear, his breath warm on her skin as he murmured in a slightly hoarse voice, "Selena, I promise, we can have more kids in the future. Just focus on getting better, and you can have as many as you want, alright?" Her head was buried in the crook of his shoulder, and her tears soaked through his shirt.

Just look at this.

This is what men do. When they want something from you, they'll say the sweetest things, even if they're bold-faced lies. Once they've got what they want, they can toss you aside like a used rag, as easily as saying they don't want you anymore. Getting tricked once is being naive. Twice is being foolish. But a third time? That's just degrading yourself.

The nightmare flashed in her mind, unbidden-the baby saying goodbye, whispering "mommy, bye-bye," even as she clung to him, refusing to let go, but he still turned into smoke in her arms, disappearing right before her eyes... Drawing strength from somewhere deep inside, she shoved him away fiercely and slapped him hard across the face.

"Get out, just get out!"

Her voice was raw, hysterical. All the pain erupted in that moment.

Everett's face burned from the slap, and it even left three red marks. He stood there, his eyes dark and stormy.

"Selena, calm down!"

She needed rest; her emotions couldn't be this turbulent!

He tried to approach her again, but she hurled a mug from the nightstand at him. He dodged instinctively, the mug grazing his cheek and shattering on the floor, the sound echoing loudly in the quiet night.

Derick, who had been watching from the doorway, fearing just this kind of chaos, felt his heart skip a beat and rushed in to hold Everett back.

He pleaded, "Mr. Everett, sir, the lady's not herself. Please understand, don't take it to heart..."

He also shouted for medical help, "Doctor! We need the doctor, quick!"

Before long, Dr. Carrillo, followed by nurses, hurried in. Seeing Selena's flushed, agitated face and the machines blaring alarms, his expression darkened.

He was an old hand at this, having saved Selena's life. He wasn't going to let them mess it up!

"Everyone out! If you want her to live, get out!"

At Dr. Carrillo's command, the room went silent. He faced the new head of the Bennett family with calm authority, meeting his gaze without flinching.

Everett, his face shadowed with

emotion, held his gaze for a few seconds. But then, seeing Selena's pale face, he finally pushed Derick aside and walked out.

Derick sighed in relief and quickly followed him out.

Dr. Carrillo's gaze softened as he turned to Selena. He moved closer, skillfully checking on her, even though she was uncooperative and the nurses struggled to hold her.

Leaning closer, he whispered something enigmatic in her ear, "Mrs. Bennett, you're blessed. What you wish for can come true." Selena froze.

What you wish for... can come true?

So, maybe her child was safe after all?

Just as Everett stepped out of the

room, a fist came flying at him, landing squarely on his mouth. The punch was strong, snapping his head sharply to one side.
