My Hunted Mate
Chapter Fourty Two

Corinna

Once Jen is completely satisfied that the baby and I are doing fine, shereminds me to check in with her again before I leave the pack so shecan organise some way to see me throughout my pregnancy and thenfinally allows me to go see Gia.

When I enter the room, Jack is sitting in a chair next to her bed, grasping her hand while she sits in the bed looking like she has moreenergy and colour back in her face, she's mumbling away to Jack, seemingly reassuring him that she'll make it through all of this and beokay.

" How are you feeling? " I ask, bringing her reassurances to a halt as hereyes meet mine.

" Better, thank you. " She sends me a quick smile, before turning toJack. " Could you give us a minute? * She mumbles to him.

Jack looks between us, nodding his head once. After placing a kiss ontoGia's cheek, he leaves us alone in the room. I look over at her, mycuriosity clear on my face. She looks down at her hands as she fiddleswith the yellow blanket draped over her, after a few seconds her eyesfall on mine.

* Listen Corinna.. I. Well.. I wanted to say sorry for how I've been actingtoward you, I've been a right bitch and after what you did today, helping to defend the pack, I couldn't not apologise and tell you howthankful I am to you, you know, just in case I don't.. * she says, lookingback down at the blanket as she trails off at the end.

I quickly move across the room, placing myself on the edge of her bedto take her hand. " All that doesn't matter, what matters is that you restfor tonight. I'll be there with you every step of the way, I'll help you getthrough this. * I promise her, squeezing her hand.

"I'm terrified. " She whispers, she watches me through tearful eyes

I nod my head, running my thumb across the back of her hand, in alame attempt to soothe her. " I know but you're strong Gia, you justneed to believe that you can do this. Now I'm going to let you rest andspend time with Jack, I'll see you later tonight. *

After sending her a reassuring smile, I exit the room, letting Jack knowhe can go back into her now. As he's about to re enter the room, hepauses and calls out to me. " Thank you, for helping us. Perhaps, I wastoo quick to judge you.

He leaves me alone in the hallway not giving me an opportunity toreply, when I get outside the hospital I spot Kai making his way over tome, I update him on how Gia is doing and reassure him that I gotchecked by the doctor and am fine as we head back to the pack house. We go straight to our room when we arrive, my nerves bubble in mystomach at the realisation this is probably the only chance I'll getbefore everything turns to chaos again, to tell him.

While Kai shuts the bedroom door behind himself, I drop down ontothe edge of the bed, he wanders over to the closet to change into morecomfortable clothes, my hand slides into the pocket of my cardigan, where the folded and now very crumpled photo from my scan is stilltucked away.

" Kai? "I call, causing him to pause before he can remove his jeans. "We should probably have that talk now, considering we won't have thechance later and I think if I leave it much longer I'll work myself upagain and fail to do it."

My rambling makes a concerned look cross his face, he sits downbeside me. " Yeah, what did you want to talk about? "

Clearing my throat, I shift awkwardly unsure of how to start. * I don'tknow how to really.. I guess I just have to say it, don't I? * I chuckle.

* Cori, what's going on? " He whispers, grabbing my hands in his.Feeling too nervous to look him in the eye, my gaze is directed at hisbare chest. " You know how I told you we were waiting for test resultsthat would explain why I'm not able to shift lately? " I mumble.

" Yeah of course, did you ask the doctor when they'd be ready? It'sbeen a while now. " He says, making me chew on the inside of my lipanxiously.

"1 already know why I can't shift. " I whisper. " I've known since theappointment. *

Taking a quick glance at his face, I can't help but feel awful when I seethe deep frown on his perfect lips, he doesn't speak so I continue. " I'vebeen really really scared and nervous to tell you because witheverything going on with Cain and my father, I just, I don't know howthis is going to work. "

" How what's going to work Corinna? " By now, I know he's confused ashell and starting to get irritated with me.

"I'm pregnant. " I breathe. " I.. I know I should've told you sooner, butI'm just so.. "

I don't dare to look at him or his reaction to this news. " You arepregnant, you're sure? " He asks, his tone unreadable.

I nod my head, pulling my hand from his to slide the picture of scanfrom my pocket. He gently takes the paper from me, unfolding it veryslowly and delicately. When he lets out a small chuckle, I look up at himto see him admiring the little bundle of cells.

" We are having a baby. " he whispers, a grin forming on his lips butwhen he looks back at me the grin fades. * Corinna... "

"1 know. " I cut him off. " I know, I should've just told you, but I'mscared Kai and- "

* Corinna, you should never be scared to come to me, with anything. Iunderstand that you're scared, I understand that there has been a lotgoing on, I understand that your sadistic family are a threat, butwhatever is going on, you can always come to me. That way we canfigure it all out together. I would be more than thrilled to have this childwith you, but regardless of what you chose, I will stand by you. I knowthe timing is... Inconvenient to say the least, but I love you and I wantthis with you. " He stares at me with such love, that it takes my breathaway along, much like his words have already done.

"I want this with you too. " I whisper, leaning over to capture his lipswith mine. " We'll figure it all out together? *

* Together. " He promises, pressing his lips to mine again.
