Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 68: There’s someone I want you to meet

Chloe POV

I didn’t get much sleep last night, I was feeling anxious about seeing Xander and Alpha Victor again. For some reason, I felt a pull towards them but couldn’t quite put my finger on why. I was extremely curious as to what they wanted to discuss with me. I would have thought that if it was pack related, Xander would have spoken to Knox and not me.

I was in my room getting dressed for dinner. I picked out a simple, yet elegant emerald green floor length dress to wear. It fell off my shoulder on one side and was made of a soft, light fabric that hugged my curves perfectly. I paired it with a pair of gold coloured heels.

I kept my makeup simple, only putting on a thin layer of mascara and some clear l*p gloss. My hair hung in loose curls down my back with a simple gold pin keeping it out of my face.

“Wow… You look stunning.” I heard Knox announce from behind me and looked up to meet his eyes in the reflection of the mirror. He was wearing a black suit with a dark grey button up shirt. The top three buttons of his shirt were left undone and I subconsciously licked my lips, he looked so sexy.

“Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself.” I replied with a slight blush. All of a sudden it felt extremely hot in the room and butterflies invaded my stomach.

He walked up behind me before wrapping one arm around my waist and pulling me against his chest. He used his other hand to brush my hair over my shoulder, before lowering his lips to k**s my collarbone. I shivered in delight at the feel of his soft, warm lips against my skin.

“I’m going to have to fight off all the un-mated wolves tonight with you looking like this.” He whispered into my ear.

“I’m pretty sure you have nothing to worry about. I’m yours.” I replied softly.

Mmmmm… That you are.” He replied while continuing to k**s my shoulder and neck.

“Are you almost ready?” He asked in low husky voice.

“I am.” I replied.

“Let’s get going then. We don’t want to be late.” He suggested and I nodded my head.

We made our way downstairs and out the front doors of the pack house. Jo and Jag were waiting out front.

“Are you sure you don’t want one of us to come with you guys?” Jag asked, sounding slightly concerned. It was understandable given everything that’s happened lately. Everyone was a little more on edge then usual.

“Nah, you guys stay with your mates. We’re taking four warriors with us, we’ll be fine.” Knox replied.

“Alright, well call me if you need anything.” Jag replied with a nod.

“Will do. Keep an eye on my father while we’re gone, I don’t trust him.” Knox added.

“You better believe it. I don’t think we have to worry about him though. Connie’s been riding his a*s pretty good since she found out about the council.” Jo chuckled.

It was true, when Knox’s mother found out what her husband did, she was beyond pissed. I was glad to see her standing up for herself. Knox told me that she use to agree with everything his father said, but it seemed something changed in her and now she wasn’t taking his crap anymore.

“Alright, we have to get going.” Knox said and gently guided me towards one of the Black SUV’s that was waiting out front.

He helped me into the passenger seat before getting into the driver seat. We waved to Jo and Jag before taking off down the long driveway. The four warriors that were coming along with us, were following behind in their own vehicle.

“Are you nervous?” Knox asked after a few moments of silence.

“A little bit. I just don’t know what to expect.” I said truthfully as I glanced over at him.

“I have my suspicions, but I don’t want to say anything incase I’m wrong. We’ll be there soon and hopefully we get some answers.” He stated and glanced over at me with a reassuring smile.

The rest of the drive was quiet. I was lost in my own thoughts and I knew Knox was too.

We arrived at the Black Hawk pack within 45 minutes. Knox stopped the vehicle at the main gates and one of the warriors came up to the driver side window.

“Who are you?” The warrior asked in a serious tone.

“Alpha Knox and this is my mate, Chloe. We were invited for dinner.” Knox replied and I saw the warriors eyes glaze over, telling me that he was mind-linking.

A minute passed before his eyes returned to normal.

“Follow that road until you reach the pack house. Alpha Victor is expecting you.” The warrior instructed and Knox nodded before driving through the now open gates.

Their territory was bigger than ours and it was beautiful. The entire area was surrounded by mature trees and I could see little chalet style cabins spread throughout. When the pack house came into view my mouth fell open. It looked like a castle, it was old, yet well maintained and absolutely stunning. The place was twice the size of our pack house.

I noticed three men standing at the top of the stairs by the front doors. As we got closer, I recognized them as Alpha Victor, his Beta and Xander. I gulped nervously, feeling like something big was going to happen tonight.

“It’s going to be ok.” Knox reassured and gently squeezed my thigh with his hand. I didn’t answer him, but shot him a small smile.

He stopped the vehicle next to the stairs that led up to the front doors. Knox got out and came around to help me out of the passenger side. The four warriors that followed in the other SUV got out and came over to stand behind us.

We made our way up the stairs to greet Alpha Victor and his men.

“Alpha Knox, Chloe, thank you for joining us tonight.” Alpha Victor said as we halted in front of him. He grabbed my hand and brought it up to his lips, gently kissing my knuckles. Knox seemed irritated with the action, but luckily didn’t say anything.

“Alpha Victor, thanks for having us.” Knox replied, before shaking Alpha Victor’s hand, then Xander’s and finally the Beta’s.

“Please, call me Victor.” He said and Knox nodded.

I gasped when Xander pulled me into a bone crunching hug. The action completely took me by surprise.

“It’s nice to see you again, Chloe. You look beautiful.” He said with a bright smile. This time Knox did growl, making me glare at him. They had invited us for dinner, his little growly ways was kind of rude. I felt like Xander was just trying to be polite.

“Sorry, we’re newly mated, I’m still a little over protective.” Knox said sheepishly, while rubbing the back of his neck. The three men in front of us chuckled at his reaction.

“No need to apologize, I was the same way with my mate when I first met her. I would like to say it gets better, but it really doesn’t.” Alpha Victor joked.

“Please, come in. There’s a few people I would like for you two to meet.” Victor stated before leading the way inside the pack house.

Knox grabbed my hand and intertwined his fingers with mine, before we followed Victor inside.

The inside of the pack house was beautiful. I expected it to be old like the exterior, but to my surprise, it had been completely remodelled and had a modern feel to it. We reached the large living room where two females were seated on the couch chatting and laughing together. When they noticed us approaching, they immediately stood up and came over to greet us.

“Knox, Chloe, this is my lovely mate, Barbara and that is Liane, Beta Ron’s mate.” Victor introduced us.

“It’s nice to meet you.” I said before shaking their hands. My eyes remained stuck on Liane for a few extra seconds. Something about her seemed familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

“What can I get you to drink?” Xander asked.

“Wine for me please.” I replied with a smile.

“I’ll have a whiskey on the rocks if you have it.” Knox added with a polite nod.

Xander flagged over a young woman who appeared to be an omega. He placed our order and the Omega nodded before leaving the room.

“Please, have a seat. Dinner isn’t quite ready yet.” Victor stated and motioned to one of the couches.

Knox and I sat on one of the couches and I was surprised when Xander sat on the other side of me. He was sitting so close that our shoulders were rubbing together. I was quickly distracted from his closeness when Victor spoke.

“I heard about your brother. I would like to say that I’m sorry, but by the sounds of things, he got what he deserved.” Victor said and I felt Knox tense. I knew even if Kyle deserved what he got, he was still Knox’s brother and it wasn’t an easy topic for him.

“Yes he did. I would never allow that kind of behaviour to occur in my pack.” Knox replied sternly.

“So he was working with Alpha Alec, I hear. What about that Max woman? Has the council come looking for her yet?” He asked curiously.

“They did. They came to my territory yesterday looking for her. Luckily they agreed to let her remain on my territory while they conduct their investigation.” Knox replied with nod.

I glanced over at Liane, who was seated in a love seat next to her mate. She looked nervous for some reason and her mate was rubbing her arm in a comforting manner. It was odd, I didn’t understand why she would feel uncomfortable? Was it our presence or the conversation that was causing her discomfort?

“I’m glad they didn’t lock her up. The council isn’t always the fairest group. I hope they conduct a proper investigation, because I know for a fact that what happens on Alpha Alec’s territory is criminal.” Victor stated and now his voice sounded angry.

“Karma will visit him soon.” Ron added and his words were laced with venom. It was clear that they disliked Alpha Alec and it only piqued my curiosity. I wonder what happened between them?

A few minutes later the same omega came back in the room carrying a tray of drinks. She handed me a glass of wine and I thanked her. Once she was done distributing the drinks she quickly left the room.

“Now Chloe, we asked you here because we wanted to discuss something with you. This is something we should have told you when we first met, but sadly I let politics get the better of me. I’m ashamed for keeping something so important from you and for that I apologize. Xander was the voice of reason and called me out on my selfishness.” Victor admitted and I glanced over at Xander who had an apologetic look on his face.

“It was wrong of us not to tell you.” Xander added.

“Tell me what?” I asked and the irritation was clear in my tone. I was feeling nervous and annoyed, what was it they were keeping from me? And why weren’t they just saying it? I was sick of waiting.

The tension in the room thickened. No one would make eye contact with me, except for Victor who had a pained expression on his face.

“There’s someone I want you to meet first, then I’ll tell you everything.” He stated and I nodded abruptly. Now I needed to know, based on everyone’s expression this was big and I wasn’t sure I was going to like it.

“I must warn you, the person you’re about to meet isn’t in the best shape. I’m not exactly sure how he will react to you.” Victor warned.

“Who is it? Why can’t you tell us first? I’m not really liking the secrecy here.” Knox admitted and he also sounded irritated.

“Come with me, once you meet him I’ll explain everything.” Victor stated before standing up from his chair. It was clear that he had no intentions of telling us anything more until after we met this mystery person.

“It’s going to be ok, I promise.” Xander stated, as he patted my hand that was resting on my thigh.

My heart was beating erratically, I stood up and felt light headed all of a sudden. Knox must have noticed because he wrapped his arm around my waist and held me firmly to his side so that I wouldn’t fall.

With shaky legs, I followed Victor and Xander down a long hallway. The others waited in the living room.

No one spoke while we walked, it was an awkward silence.

Victor stopped in front of a large wooden door. He looked back at me, silently asking with his eyes if I was ready. I gave him a small nod and he knocked on the door.

“f**k off.” I heard a deep, gruff voice shout from inside the room. The voice caused a cold chill to rush through my body. Knox’s hold on me tightened and I felt his entire body tense when he heard the hostility behind the words.

Victor ignored the angry voice and turned the door knob before pushing it open. The room was dark, not a single light was on and the blinds were pulled together, preventing any outside light to enter the room.

The over powering smell of body odour and liquor hit my nose, causing it scrunch up in disgust. What the hell was going on? Who the hell did they want me to meet? Whoever it was, he certainly didn’t sound very friendly.

“Brother, there’s someone here I want you to meet.” Victor announced and my eyebrows furrowed together. His brother? Why does he want me to meet his brother?

“Won’t you just leave me the hell alone?” That same deep, gruff voice barked back from somewhere inside the room. There was a pain in his voice that pulled at my heart. I didn’t understand the mix of emotions that were running through me.

“Not today brother, you’re going to want to meet this one.” Victor replied, before I felt his hand on my lower back as he gently guided me into the room.

Victor turned the light on and that’s when I saw a slumped over body on the chair in the corner.

“f**k!” I heard the man slumped in the chair hiss, before shielding his eyes from the light.

I gulped as Victor continued to guide me towards the man.

He looked much older then Alpha Victor, but that could have been because of his disheveled appearance. He had long, greasy grey hair and an unkempt beard. His clothes were torn and heavily soiled. I could tell he was tall by how long his legs were. When he finally looked up at me my breath caught in my throat. He had the most mesmerizing blue eyes. They looked so familiar, but why? I could tell he would be handsome if he cleaned himself up.

His eyes widened when they met mine and I saw so many emotions swirling within them, longing, confusion, curiosity and the main one being disbelief. I was suddenly very overwhelmed and felt suffocated.

“T-Trisha? I-Is that y-you?” His voice came out broken, but the way he was looking at me was unsettling.

How did he know my mother? Why was he asking if I was her? None of this made any sense to me. I needed answers and fast.
