The Alpha King's Hybrid Mate -
Chapter 25
Killian's eyes widened as the guard said the words.
"Really? Bring her here." Killian ordered, and the guard dashed out.
"Do you think she has nothing to do with the poisoning?" An elder asked while Killian smiled weakly.
"She is just a maid, what audacity could she have to poison the Luna?" Killian replied, and the elder seemed not convinced by Killian's explanation.
"What if she was promised something by those behind her? I know she can't be the mastermind, but she might be the weapon used." The elder continued and Killian sighed. The elders' analogy makes some sense and can't be ignored totally. But Killian somehow felt that it was another person entirely.
"Didn't she say she was innocent? Besides, she has something to say now; why don't we hear from her first," Killian replied.
The elders murmured some words between themselves, which was later accompanied by some minutes of silence as they anticipated the arrival of the maid.
"Here is she, my Alpha." The guard said with a bow before exiting the hall.
"Greetings, my Alpha." The maid bowed. Her eyes were bloodshot red, and one could tell that she had shed lots of tears.
"You are the maid that poisoned the Luna?" Killian asked, and the maid went on her knees immediately.
"I didn't; I was framed; please hear me out." The maid begged, and Killian smiled. He seemed to replace the maid interesting.
"Didn't you say you have something to tell us? Let's hear it then." Killian ordered her, and the maid lifted her head.
"Replying to you, my Alpha. While I was on my way to serve the food, I was stopped by someone." The maid said and seemed to be afraid of mentioning who the person was.
"Who was it?" Killian asked, but the maid shook nervously. The chief guard was under Jared's control, and she wondered if Jared had something to do with the incident. If Jared was truly involved, even if she managed to survive this calamity, her days in the pack would be hell as everyone dreaded Jared for how fierce he was.
"Answer me, I am here, so you have nothing to fear," Killian told her, and the maid swallowed hard.
"It's...the chief guard." The maid replied and everyone's faces widened in shock.
"What? Do you know what you are talking about?" Jared yelled as he stood up from his seat. Killian's eyes on him made him compose himself and silently sit back on his chair. "Why did you seem so flustered, Jared? Your actions only claim what she said to be true." Killian muttered before turning to the maid.
"So what's up about the chief guard." He asked the maid.
The maid narrated how he had stopped her for no reason, he had also patted her on her back, so she was sure he dropped the pill on her at the moment.
"How, then, do you explain the poison in the drink?" Killian interrogated further.
"My head was bowed, my Alpha. He must have dropped the pill inside the cup when no one was looking." The maid replied.
Killian called out to a guard and ordered him to fetch the chief guard.
Within a minute, the chief guard ran inside the hall. He wore a shocking expression when he saw the maid kneeling in the meeting hall.
"So narrate what you told us once again," Killian ordered and the maid narrated everything once again.
"What do you have to say to this?" Killian asked and the chief guard also went on his knees.
"She is lying against me, I have not even set my eyes on her today." The chief guard pleaded in the most calm and composed tone.
"No, my Alpha. It was him, he was the one that stopped me." The maid cried.
"But you don't have any evidence of witness to back up your claim," Jared said to her while Killian replied to him almost immediately.
"Neither does the chief guard have any evidence of witness." He said, and Jared instantly went mute.
The moon priestess, who had been silent throughout the meeting, cleared her throat and honored Killian before proceeding to talk.
"There's a way to know whichever one of them is saying the truth." The moon priestess said, and everyone's faces lit open.
"What's that, honored one?" Killian asked, and the moon priestess took out a black item that looked like a scorpion.
"It's the black scorpion's venom. You just need to feed them with a portion of it and let them narrate the whole thing again. Whoever lies shall be struck by thunder, his or her flesh will be ripped slowly from his bone, and he or she will die a slow, agonizing, and dreadful death." The moon priestess said, and a murmur swept across the hall.

"But isn't that too cruel?" One of the elders asked while the moon priestess smiled.
"That's why they can choose to say the truth now, I don't necessarily need to use it on them. Besides, whoever did it didn't consider that it was cruel towards Luna when they poisoned her. It's just letting him or her have a taste of his or her own medicine." The moon priestess said, and everyone agreed to it.
"Moon priestess, nothing will happen to whosoever speaks the truth, right?" The maid asked anxiously and the moon priestess nodded with a smile.
"Be rest assured, nothing will happen to the person." The moon priestess replied, and the maid instantly opened her mouth.
"I am ready." The maid said, and the general had begun to tremble.
The moon priestess poured some drops of the liquid into the maid's mouth who didn't hesitate to swallow it.
"You?" The moon priestess turned to the chief guard, who in turn looked at the maid in fear.
He suddenly yelled out and pleaded guilty.
"I am the one; I dropped the pill into the drink; I poisoned the Luna." He yelled out in agony while the moon priestess smiled.
"You finally showed yourself. There's nothing like a black Scorpion venom that can make people tell the truth; it's just a lie that I formulated myself. Inside this thing is water, and nothing more. If you don't believe me, I will drink it now." The moon priestess drank the full liquid, and nothing happened to her, even though she had just lied about the venom liquid.
"You see, you fretted over something that's not real and you exposed yourself."
The chief guard crashed to the floor, realizing that it was the possible end of him. He
had believed the moon priestess' words and had sold himself out.
"Guards, drag him out!"
